Who are the most approachable professors at IIT (BHU)?

Jasmine Grover Posted On : March 7th, 2024

My brother pursued his B.Tech from IIT BHU a few years back. He often talks about Dr. SK Sharma of the department of Mechanical Engineering. Sir is an extremely honest and hardworking person, and a teacher in the true sense of the word.

He treats his students like his own children, and spends all the money received from the department in providing equipment for their projects. Working under him is an honor. He helps his students in every possible way, and suggests amazing project ideas with a lot of enthusiasm. He motivates his students to publish their research papers on great platforms, and helps them in every possible way.

Sir is a very approachable and good teacher, and my brother will forever be indebted to him for his support and guidance.

What should I choose, CSE at IIT Hyderabad, BHU, mechanical at IIT Kharagpur or electrical at IIT Roorkee?

Irrespective of the IIT you choose, CS placements are excellent everywhere with very lucrative packages offered to its top rankers. A good student can pay a package as high as INR 30-40 LPA in CS whereas the same students will only end up with a package of INR 10–15 LPA.

While many may comment that placements should not be the only determining factor, I am here to contradict that opinion. CS is a branch that is dynamic and any engineering aspirants will be attracted to it naturally while other branches are a bit rigid and require specific attention.

As far as CSE at IIT BHU is concerned, it’s at par with most older IITs. The majority of the batch is pre-placed or placed on the first day itself. A few top recruiters include Goldman Sachs, Oracle, Microsoft, etc.

How is placement in IIT (BHU) Varanasi in the mechanical branch for M.Tech?

DN
Deepanshu Nair Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Dual Degree from Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2021)

Placements of any college depend on its Alumni Network and this fact can’t be denied that being a 100-Year-Old institution IIT BHU has a wide range of alumni working in every area. Placements here are comparable to other IIT’s. MTech in Mechanical at IIT BHU has a good placement percentage. IIT BHU has Training and Placement Cell working hard for the placement of their students.
There are several PSUs like IOCL, ISRO, BPCL, HUL, CIL, ONGC, etc. who came to the campus for placement drive. Besides there are other private firms too like Bajaj, Maruti, Jaguar, Trident Automobiles, etc. that visit campus too for recruiting students from MTech in Mechanical Engineering. With good placement percentage students are placed in well knows firms with an average pay package of 8.10 Lakhs per annum and the highest package offered was 30 LPA CTC.

How, as an alumnus of IIT (BHU) Varanasi, can help our college become a better (hopefully the best) college?

If you are working in Google or Microsoft or any top tier companies or any company, as a matter of fact, you can conduct coding contests, you can invite the top three performers for internships or motivate them in some way. You can also conduct workshops and help students prepare for placements.

If you doing your Ph.D. in some foreign university, you can guide the students about how to go about research and the trend that is going on in the research field, so that the interested students can focus on the things necessary to achieve the same. You can also help in collaborating with your university with IIT BHU.

Other than that you can always contribute to alumni funds and help in placements and internships. You can also donate books to the library. If you are successful in your field you can hold webinars or seminars and motivate the students. If you have your own startup you can recruit students for your company rather than going for other IITs. This would also increase the placement percentage of the institute. You can also provide internships. You can support talented students belonging to poor families in any way that might help them.

What power does the vice-chancellor of BHU have over IIT BHU ?

SD
Sandeep Das Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Bachelor in Technology Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2021)

Currently, the Vice-Chancellor of BHU has no power over IIT BHU as both are independent institutes. Although, they are united together under the name of Banaras Hindu University. The two institutes take their decisions independently. The Vice-Chancellor of BHU has no say over IIT BHU. But there was a small twist in all this. A few years back the Vice-Chancellor of BHU was also the Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT BHU. Chairman of the Board of Governors is the most powerful person in IIT BHU. No decision can be taken without the permission of the Chairman. Since the same person was working at both these positions, the Vice-Chancellor of BHU was the most powerful person in IIT BHU but it’s not because he was the Vice-Chancellor of BHU, but because he was also the Chairman of Board of Governors of IIT BHU. But now things have changed as different persons are working in these positions. Mr. Rakesh Bhatnagar is currently the Vice-Chancellor of BHU and Prof. P. K. Jain is the Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT BHU. Mr. Rakesh Bhatnagar does not have any power over IIT BHU.

Are branch changing rules liberal at IIT-BHU?

RB
Rohan Bhatt Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2016)

In IIT Bhubaneswar, presently the Mess is being run by Gauri Catering Services which is based in Kanpur.

If we talk about all the IIT Students, the price range starts from Rs.100.40/- per day which totals to Rs. 3012/- per month. Although, a one-time payment of Rs. 14000/- is to be paid initially when the semester begins and the remaining balance is further calculated at the end of the semester on the basis of the number of leaves taken by the students. This way, if there is any remaining balance left of the student, it will get adjusted in the next Mess Bill.

The mess price for outsiders, faculty, and staff are as follows:

Breakfast: Rs. 30/-

Lunch: Rs. 40/- for vegetarian food and Rs. 50/- for non-vegetarian food.

Snacks: Rs. 10/-

Dinner: Rs. 40/- for vegetarian food and Rs. 50/- for non-vegetarian food.

Most of the IIT BHU hostels for girls are old. Recently one new girls' hostel has been established. The hostel rooms have all essential amenities such as bed, table, chair, etc. You will have access to full-speed wi-fi inside the hostel rooms.

There are 5 girls hostels, i.e. SC Dey Girls, IIT BHU Girls’ hostel -1 & 2, Gandhi Smriti Mahila Catrawas, and Limbdi. Usually, the hostel rooms are double sharing.

I have been selected at Great Lakes, TAPMI, IRMA and IIT -BHU, KJ Somaiya (MBA - HCM). Which one should I take? I am totally confused.

AB

First of all, congratulations on your acceptances to these colleges. Great Lakes would be the best option for you if you’re interested in a one-year MBA program, especially in the IT domain, given the current COVID situation. If you’re interested in rural management instead, IIRMA is considered the best program for that specialization.

I would advise against choosing IIT-BHU and recommend KJ Somaiya only if you’re specifically interested in pursuing an MBA in HCM. TAPMI would be the best choice for someone looking for a general MBA program without a specific interest in any of the specialized areas mentioned above.
