Will I be eligible for an MBA in A grade B schools like IIMs XLRI, NMIMS, JBIMS, etc., with scores of 90.6 in the 10th standard and 70 in the 12th standard?

JT
Jayant Thakur Posted On : March 6th, 2023

As a candidate with a lower academic performance in the past, you are eligible for most of the business schools, except for a few, such as the Indian Institutes of Management in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, and Lucknow, which place a greater emphasis on previous academic records. However, XLRI is good news for you, as it does not consider your previous academics when shortlisting candidates. Additionally, SPJain may consider extending you a profile-based admission offer if your CAT score is at least 85 or higher and you have something unique in your profile. Other top business schools, such as NITIE Mumbai, MDI, and NMIMS, are easily within reach for you.

It is recommended that you focus on making the most of your current educational journey and not let your past academic performance impact your future opportunities. Aim to prepare well for the CAT exam, aiming for a top score, and accumulate as many quality resume points as possible to develop a unique and impressive profile for yourself. However, do not forget to live the life of an engineer, taking full advantage of your education. If you gain at least 2 years of work experience, you may consider taking the GMAT and applying to the Indian School of Business, which may consider extending you an admission offer.

What are my chances to get into FMS Delhi or older IIMs? I have 94% in 10th and 78% in 12th in the Maharashtra board.

Your chances to get into FMS Delhi and any other older IIMs depend upon three criteria.

  1. First is how your CAT exam went. If you are in a general category, then you have to score at least 98 percentile in the CAT exam to get a call from these institutes.
  2. Second is how well you gave the interview. An interview is a make-or-break thing to enter into these institutes. If you give a good interview, then the interviewer will consider you even if you are lagging behind in a few aspects.
  3. Third, is the student profile, like your 10th, 12th, undergraduate percentage, and work experience.

The major contributor to your admission would be the first two factors. Your profile does not make such a difference when you excel in the first two. You could get into one of these prestigious institutes if you work hard enough.

How difficult is it to get a cgpa of 9+ in IIT GANDHINAGAR in the first year?

AG
Arvind Goswami Posted On : March 17th, 2021
Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (2018)

Getting a 9+ CGPA anywhere is not an easy job. You need to be constant in terms of study and securing 9+ CGPA overall requires a high CGPA in all the subjects.

Credit System:

For IIT Gandhinagar, there is a credit system where the first semester consists of 22 credits with 4 courses of 4 credits and 2 are of 3 credits. Coming to the second semester, it has a total of 24 credits where 5 subjects have 4 credits and 2 subjects have 2 credits in all.

Useful Tips:

Now to get all the credits and achieve a high CGPA, the 10 points that are A grade is not easy to attain as they are given to fewer students whereas there are more students in the race of 9 points. As the subjects in the first year are the same, the classes will have around 150 students.

To attain a high grade in IIT Gandhinagar your CGPA should not be lower than 9. To achieve this you need to prove yourself in every subject as well as keep a track of the grades in the regular study pattern and continuous assessment.

Awards:

To keep you motivated, IIT Gandhinagar includes felicitation of the top performers by the dean and distribution of several other medals for both academic and non-academic domains. One of the domains of getting a medal is exemplary human qualities. So, there is always a reward for the good deeds.

The director in a five-week foundation program also guides students on how to achieve high grades. For the ones who are unable to attain good grades, the institute helps them find their own talents and interests.

What score do I require to get a call from IIM Shillong for OBC?

AK
Aastha Khandelwal Posted On : January 23rd, 2023
Merchandiser at Shahi Exports (Indian company) (2019–present)

IIM Shillong does not have an OBC reservation due to some state laws. The minimum marks required for shortlisting OBC candidates is the same as the General Category, which is 75/75/75 in the VARC, DILR, and QA sections. The minimum percentile required for shortlisting may vary depending on the candidate's undergraduate stream.

For example, a male engineer would be in competition with other male engineers, and the minimum percentile required would depend on how well candidates from that category performed. As a general rule, a percentile of 98+ would be a safe bet for GEM candidates to receive a call, while a lower percentile may be sufficient for candidates from other streams.

I have 63% in 10th and 47% in 12th. Also, I got 59% in graduation. Is there any chance to get admission in IIM and FMS Delhi?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : May 8th, 2023

IIMs and FMS Delhi are the top management institutes in India, and they have very competitive admission processes. A high academic score can be an advantage but it is not the only criterion for admission. Admissions committees also consider other factors such as work experience, extracurricular activities, performance in entrance exams like CAT, XAT, or GMAT, and performance in GD and PI rounds.

Now based on the information you provided; your academic scores are below the average scores of the admitted candidates in these institutes. However, there are several factors that could improve your chances of admission. For example, if you have relevant work experience, achievements in extracurricular activities, a very high score in the CAT exam, a good GD score, and a really good and impressive personal interview, you could still be considered for admission.

So, the best thing for you right now is to focus on other aspects of your application such as your work experience, extracurricular activities, and performance in the entrance exams. Also, research the admission criteria and requirements for the specific programs you are interested in and try to meet them to the best of your ability. It is always a good idea to apply to several institutes to maximize your chances of admission.

Can someone brief me with the profiles (academics/cat percentile/work ex) of the people that made it into MDI Gurgaon?

AG
Avi Gupta Posted On : February 23rd, 2023
Studied at Management Development Institute, Gurgaon

There is no specific profile that is able to make it into MDI Gurgaon. Some are able to make it into MDI even with the 94 percentile and some are not able to get even with the 98 percentile. It’s the personal interview and GD round that comes into play here. The ones with lower percentiles usually have exceptionally good communication skills. The ones that make it into MDI with high percentile usually have decent work experience and profile.

But for MBA-IM there are many with mid-94–95 percentiles and decent profiles.

The conclusion is that you either need

  • High CAT score

Or

  • Excellent profile

Or

  • A very good GDPI score

A rich blend of the three increases your chances of getting into MDI Gurgaon drastically.
