Should I choose mechanical at Thapar or ECE at BIET Jhansi?

EP
Ekta Pandey Posted On : April 21st, 2021
Studied at BIET Jhansi (2019)

The best advice and answer for your question would be to, “Follow your heart". This is not supposed to be cliché but the best choice that you can make would be the one where you believe your career is.

If you have a keen interest in machines, automobiles, and thermodynamics, then you must opt for Mechanical Engineering. If you hold an interest in circuit branches, then you should opt for Electrical Engineering. If you realise your niche and have an honest interest in your branch then your choice of college would not matter much as the Course curriculum for Engineering is almost the same for both colleges.

A lot of people believe that Mechanical Engineering is the toughest but you should do your research before opting for your branch. Choosing the right branch will also give you enough time to prepare for CAT while attending your college.

Thapar University can be the best option if you can afford the fee. You will be given better job opportunities once you complete the degree. BIET Jhansi is recognized in UP only and the placement opportunity is very less. A few of my friends from BIET Jhansi have often complained about lack of resources and a very competitive environment.

How advantageous will it be for a person with 24 months of IT experience, in the the placements at NITIE (any stream)?

GN
Gargi Nath Posted On : August 11th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering

One of my friends from school is a student of NITIE and according to him, having work experience with more than 20-26 months just acts as magic numbers. It will be a great asset during the time of admissions. In NITIE, the average work experience of the IM batch usually ranges from 20 to 26 months and sometimes even higher. Moreover, there will also be high chances that you can sit for the LRP placements as well. Only consulting companies would be expected during the LRP process.

Here is a brief highlight of recent placements at NITIE.

Average CTC 20 LPA
Highest CTC 43 LPA
Top 10% average CTC 37 LPA
Top 20% average CTC 32 LPA
Major recruiters ETLI, EY, IDFC First

Hope this answers your question.

Which option is better IT at IIIT Allahabad or CSE at Thapar?

AB
Amit Biswas Posted On : July 2nd, 2021
Integrated M.Tech Biomedical Engineering, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (2018)

IIIT Allahabad is the institute of national importance, whereas Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology is a deemed university in Punjab. The best institute among the two for pursuing engineering is IIIT Allahabad. It is far better than Thapar. Here is a brief overview of the institutes.

Criteria

IIIT Allahabad

Thapar Institute

INR 13.23 Lakhs

Average Package

INR 20.83 LPA

  • The tag of IIIT is an advantage. IIIT Allahabad is not less than old IITs as it is one among the Tier-1 colleges for engineering.
  • The quality of research and reputation it has in the industry makes it a lucrative choice.
  • IIIT Allahabad offers only two specializations, IT and ECE. It diverts the complete focus on these two branches.
  • The faculty of the institute is skilled in teaching and has vast experience in the industry. They use the industry-specific teaching approach and prepare the students to take up real-world challenges.
  • The coding culture of the institute is renowned in the country. It has given birth to many excellent programmers in the world. Every year, a team goes to compete at the international finals in ACM ICPC. Heard of ‘Humblefool’? Till date, he is considered the best programmer from India and he belongs to IIIT Allahabad.

Overall, the above points conclude that IIIT Allahabad is not only the brand, but it also gives the best return on investment.

What should I choose between Thapar and IIIT, Guwahati (2018) for ECE?

NJ
Nikhil Jha Posted On : June 22nd, 2021
Studied B.Tech in Information Technology at Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore (2019)

I have friends from both Thapar University and IIIT Guwahati, and undoubtedly, Thapar holds the legacy of being the best private engineering college after BITS Pilani.

Check out the following reasons why Thapar University beats IIIT Guwahati here:

  • Campus culture: The coding culture is very profound at Thapar whereas in IIIT Guwahati it's almost non-existent and is more focused on research.
  • Placement: The records are far better at Thapar and have a greater number of companies visiting for campus placements. On the other hand, NO ECE company showed up during the campus placements last year at IIIT Guwahati.
  • Curriculum: The biggest con of IIIT Guwahati is the curriculum. The curriculum makes no sense because subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology are scattered over all 8 semesters instead of the first year itself. Practical subjects like Machine Learning and the Internet of Things are presented theoretically without any lab sessions which is absurd.
  • Alumni network: Thapar University has a much greater alumni base across India and abroad due to its long history. Whereas, IIIT Guwahati being established less than a decade ago has a limited alumni base.

IIIT Guwahati lies nowhere in the league of Thapar University. Join IIIT Guwahati only if you are more inclined towards research work and higher studies, especially branches like ECE. If better infrastructure, better placements, huge alumni network, is what you are looking for, choose Thapar University any day!

Which is better: IIIT Guwahati or Thapar University?

SS
Sneha Sharma Posted On : May 31st, 2021
B.tech, COE from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

I have a few friends at both institutes so I can give you some idea about them. Both IIIT Guwahati and Thapar University are very good engineering institutes, but the former will be a better choice.

Thapar University is a reputed private institute with good infrastructure, an updated curriculum, and a well-developed alumni base. But when compared to IIIT Guwahati it falls behind.

If we check the recent placement statistics for these two institutes, there a big difference can be seen. The average CTC offered at Thapar for recent years has been around 7 LPA, whereas for IIIT Guwahati the average CTC is around 10.2 LPA.

The final decision is yours. Consider all these facts and choose wisely.

Which is better, electronics and instrumentation in Thapar, IT in Maharaja Agrasen College, or CSE in Maharaja Surajmal College?

RD
Rahul Dua Posted On : June 8th, 2021
B.Tech. Information Technology, Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology (2019)

I know people from these institutes and based on the conversations I had with them, I will say the preference order should be somewhat like below.

CSE MSIT ~ IT MAIT > ICE Thapar

Since you are considering different branches, it is clear that you don’t have any inclination towards a specific branch or specialization. If it’s true I will suggest don’t go for ICE Thapar. It is a core branch that already has fewer job opportunities in the industry. To score a decent placement at a core company for this branch you will need to be at the top of your class. Else, you are likely to end up in mass recruiting companies or software companies.

So, it will be better to stay in Delhi, it will be cost-effective, you can save up for your postgraduate degree and pursue what is in demand currently.

Which college should be preferred between Thapar University and SRM, Chennai?

SR
Shruti Rai Posted On : June 9th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2018)

The comparison between Thapar and SRM is definitely not up to the mark because Thapar is better than SRM. Having friends studying in both these colleges, I can assure you to confidently choose Thapar over SRM.

  • Being a private college SRM had never paid attention to the quality education or any other criteria which a better college should do. It's the same as all other private colleges in India.
  • Thapar should be preferred. Be it faculty, environment, infrastructure, education, and placements, Thapar is much better.

It basically depends on the student as comparing the Institute won't end up anywhere. A student should focus on the right career and college from the very beginning and should prepare accordingly. According to the student's priorities and choice of place, the Institute can be selected. But among these two, Thapar excels over SRM.

Should I take mechanical at Thapar University or metallurgical and material sciences at PEC, Chandigarh?

UN
Urmimala Nath Posted On : May 5th, 2021
B.Tech from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh (2019)

Both Mechanical and metallurgical engineering at Thapar and PEC Chandigarh have their own pros and cons. Let's list them out to opt for the best college for you.

PEC Chandigarh:

  • PEC Chandigarh has a better brand name compared to Thapar University. But Thapar is surely not far behind.
  • PEC has an amazing culture that prepares its students for future career challenges.
  • One can prepare well for their further MBA, Mtech, or MS entrance exams while being at PEC Chandigarh.
  • Being a government college, PEC is doing a great job in its placement department. There was a 28% hike in their placement record in 2020 despite the pandemic situation.

Thapar University:

  • Thapar has an amazing placement record and coding culture.
  • As a brand name, it's growing up to the heights of PEC.
  • If you opt for metallurgical science, you will limit yourself to few core companies or steel and other manufacturing firms.

Unless you are into metallurgical sciences it's better to opt for mechanical engineering as you can even jump into both technical and non-technical firms.

Quick comparison:

Particulars

PEC

(Mechanical Engineering)

Thapar University

(Metallurgical and material sciences)

Entrance exam

JEE Main

JEE Main

Total fees

6.39 lakh

8.85 - 17.36 lakh

Placement rate

90%

84%

Highest CTC offered

15 LPA

40 LPA

Average CTC offered

6.5 LPA

6-7 LPA

Out of the above two, ME at PEC seems like a better option. PEC being a government institute has half the tuition fee of Thapar University which saves you a lot. If you plan on an MBA further, it's better to opt the best out of two and start preparing from the first year of your college itself.

Which is better, Thapar or IIIT Vadodara?

AP
Ajit Pal Posted On : June 29th, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Vadodara (2018)

IIIT Vadodara is a newly established institute and is at present operating through its transit campus. That clearly means it is not fair to compare it with an old reputed institute like Thapar University.

The first batch of IIIT Vadodara graduated back in 2017 and you can find the details of that batch on their official websites.

However, here is a brief overview of the 2020 placement reports of both institutes.

Institute

Thapar University

IIIT Vadodara

Average CTC

INR. 7 LPA

INR 13 LPA

Highest CTC

INR. 43 LPA

INR 43.5 LPA

Top Recruiting Companies

Amazon, Microsoft, DE Shaw, JP Morgan, and Infosys

Amazon, Mathworks, ICICI Bank, and Sigmoid

In terms of academic excellence, IIIT Vadodara is extremely good. However, the reason behind opting for Thapar University is because it is an old and renowned institute as a whole. Speaking of which, you should choose Thapar university over IIIT Vadodara.

Which is better: electronics and instrumentation in Thapar, IT in Maharaja Agrasen College or CSE in Maharaja Surajmal College?

SD
Simi Dua, Posted On : November 25th, 2021
B.Tech. Information Technology, Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology (2019)

Among these three colleges it will be better if you go for CSE at MSIT. As CSE is the most sorted department which will provide you with immense opportunities in the corporate field.

It is recommended that you do not opt for Thapar or especially electronics and instrumentation, as your scope will become limited. CSE or IT will open several gates for your future ahead.

Since you do not have any inclination towards any branch, a core branch like ICE which will require you to be one of the top students in the batch to secure a good job in the core company. Or you will get offered a job from mass recruitment companies.

So it is better to pay less for your undergraduate degree, stay in Delhi and pursue the course in demand.
