I want to pursue MBA from Thapar University. Is it a good option?

NM
Naman Mishra Posted On : August 10th, 2021
Studied at Jadavpur University (2019)

MBA from Thapar University will entail both the good and the bad. One of my friends studies at Thapar University in the MBA program and this is what he has to say:

  • An MBA from Thapar University is good if it is the only option you have and would not like to take another shot at scoring a better institute.
  • My cousin graduated with an Engineering degree from Thapar and it was a spectacular experience for him.
  • In fact, Thapar University is well known for its engineering programs more than any other discipline.
  • During placements, companies recruit on the basis of these factors Brand name and profile.
  • If both fit rightly then you can get a very good referral.
  • Alternatively, if you have had a meaningful experience, professionally, then that speaks as well.
  • The MBA program is not well known at Thapar.
  • Also, because the engineering department charges very high fees, the MBA program does that too.
  • The ROI will not be good.

Finally, if you or any of your friends are thinking of pursuing an MBA in Thapar University, then please rethink your requirements.

SR

Studied at Delhi University (2019)

You can refer to the complete procedure on the official website of Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology University. Here’s what I gathered from one of my friends studying there. The admission process is pretty simple.

  • The university releases the application form for admission tentatively in the month of July.
  • It is advised that you ensure that you fulfill all of the eligibility criteria as per the guidelines of the university.
  • Make sure that you fill out the application form as soon as possible to avoid any sort of inconvenience later in the admission process.
  • The University conducts a total of 3 rounds for admission. You are required to pay non-refundable counseling fees of INR 2,000.
  • The admission to the B.Tech is done on the basis of JEE Main score of the applicants.

It is not necessary for candidates to submit the application form to get admission into the University. You can refer to the information available on the official website of the university to get updates regarding the important dates of the admission process.

Which one is better, LNMIIT or Thapar University?

KM
Kush Mehra Posted On : August 7th, 2021
Studies Bachelor of Technology in Communication and Computer Engineering at The LNM Institute of Information

It is known to everyone that there is a prevalent competition between LNMIIT and Thapar University. But as some of my friends studied at Thapar University, I can say that it stands out for many reasons.

  • The faculty of Thapar University is excellent when compared to other colleges in India.
  • COE is considered the best department among others.
  • They have amazing research facilities in every department, mechanical to electrical. They are at par with IITs and BITS.
  • They have clubs and societies both technical and non-technical. The technical societies include Team Fateh, OWASP, CCS, IEEE SC, IIEE, etc.
  • Thapar is one of the oldest colleges with very well maintained infrastructure.
  • Placements are really good at Thapar.
  • The only thing that is a bit much is the course fees.
Categories Thapar University
Course Fee 13.23 lakh
Highest CTC 24-26 LPA
Average CTC 14-16 LPA
Recruiting Companies Microsoft, IBM, Wipro, Infosys, etc.

Thus, we can conclude that Thapar University is not only popular for its infrastructure and other related facilities but at the same time, the university is well-known for the decent placement offers that marks an edge for every student.

Is electronics and computers a good option at Thapar University?

AA
Ahelita Anand Posted On : August 9th, 2021
Studied at University of Mumbai (2019)

One of my friends had been in the very first batch of B.E Electronics and Computer branch. I might be able to share some facts about the college and the course which can be useful.

  • The batch size consists of 68 students.
  • The placement records were pretty good.
  • This branch was considered for recruitment in the core companies of both ECE and CS.
  • Students were placed by some of the top recruiting core CS companies that include D.E Shaw, Microsoft, Walmart, Samsung, Wipro as well core Electronics companies such as NXP, Mentor Graphics, etc.
  • The average placement package for the first batch was 7 LPA while the highest was 16 LPA for this branch.
  • The course curriculum of this branch includes the core subjects from both ECE and CS branches.
  • The student gets a sneak peek at the common subjects required for the placement criteria for the core CS as well as ECE branches.

If the students are not a big fan of coding cultures that the CS branch usually offers nor good at ECE setups then they would not regret getting into this branch. In the end, the placement will only be availed by the students with their hard work and efforts.

What is the future of Thapar University?

TB
Tanushree Bose Posted On : August 10th, 2021
B.Tech from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology

My brother is a recent graduate of Thapar University so I think I can answer this question.

  • For the past few years, the university has only focused on enrolling more students and raising the fees. Talking about the COE branch, there are more than 350 students in a batch. This makes the student-teacher ratio really poor. For a class of 80 students, you will find one teacher in the lecture.
  • If you ask about other branches such as CML or CAG, the university had to shut down the branches because they were not able to provide well-qualified teachers for these branches. So, the branches were shut down after two years, and the students were shifted to the COE department.
  • Placements: Only a few companies offering a package of INR 10 LPA visit the campus. Most of the companies offer packages of INR 3-9 LPA. Only a few students are placed in companies like Amazon, Deshaw which offer packages of INR 20 LPA. The rest are placed in companies such as TCS and Infosys.
  • The quality of education has been deteriorating in past years.
  • The technical fests are not up to the mark. To be honest, there are no good technical events held.

Overall, it is going to be tough for the University to be ranked among the top 50 colleges in the next five years.

How is thapar university for other state students?

RG
Rishabh Gupta Posted On : August 10th, 2021
Studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology

That was the same question my friend had in mind when he decided to enroll at Thapar University. He is also from another state. But, aside from occasionally communicating with local vendors, he had not come across any problems.

The environment for study and other activities is the same for students from other states as well as those from Punjab. There are students from every state in the country. So don't be concerned.

Half of the people are from outside the country, and they have no problems. Their campus is large and well-kept, and you will feel at home there.

You'll make many Punjabi friends from Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Patiala. Inside and outside category students coexist in harmony and respect.

The hostels are also good, and they are assigned year by year, which helps to bring people from the same year and different branches together.

So overall, you will have a good experience here.

What all happens in frosh week at the Thapar University?

TS
Taniya Sen Posted On : August 11th, 2021
B.Tech from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2018)

Frosh week is a program initiated by the students of Thapar University. It is a week-long program that includes various events.

It is organized by the second and third-year students for the freshers. It gives them a chance to adjust to the new university life ahead and overcome the culture shock of an engineering college. The Frosh week organizers stand with - no ragging policy, healthy junior-senior interaction as well as intra-batch interactive sessions.

This platform provides the students an idea about the life ahead at Thapar University, the academic structure as well as the extra-curricular activities. It is basically an orientation to the 4-year long college life in a week.

They conduct workshops and lectures as well to loosen the tension among the freshers for their hectic life before the first semester. Events such as karaoke nights, sports mania, graffiti are a part of this splendid week too.

Is the IEP at Thapar University worth the money invested? Does Thapar University offer scholarships on the basis of needs or performance?

AA
Atmanand Anand Posted On : August 10th, 2021
Studied at Pune University (2019)

During the admission in the IEP, students are expected to choose a second stream as a backup if they are unable to secure a seat for the IEP. Since the seats are limited, not every student opts for IEP.

Also, if you are financially secure then you might as well go for it without any hesitation. There is a possibility that you might not be able to secure a seat for IEP and end up with the second stream after two years which you do not likely prefer to opt for.

Could Some seniors from Thapar University who bagged placements share what juniors could do to gain good placements?

DS
Disha Singh Posted On : August 6th, 2021
Studied at University of Mumbai (2019)

The seniors at Thapar University are really helpful and cooperative. Here are some things which might answer your question.

  • Finish CLRS “Introduction to Algorithms” textbook in your first year. This is the most important rule.
  • Start participating in programming contests, such as TopCoder SRMs, right from your first year.
  • Make sure you are a part of some cool projects in college.
  • Build your GitHub profile.
  • Engage in startup culture. Try to create jobs rather than looking for one.
  • Visit HackerNews (HN) every day. You'll learn great things and see cool projects worldwide.
  • Learn everything you can about Machine learning and Deep learning.
  • Play hard with CNNs, RNNs, GANs, etc. Try to create some cool projects around ML.
  • Engage in some real research work, better if under your professors and publish papers.
  • Study for placements during holidays.
  • Read “Cracking the coding interview”. Do placement questions from the career cup for your dream companies.
  • If you dream of Google, prepare hard for Google's APAC test. It is like another JEE.
  • Keep eye on reputed international internships and grab one if you can. Discuss more on this with your professors.

Lastly, it is suggested that you keep your body and mind fit. You need to stay healthy and think clearly during the placement process.
