It is recommended that you opt for an institute based upon its Affiliations, Accreditations, Placements, and Extra-curricular activities. Since one of my friends is a student at IITM Janakpuri, here is what she says about the institute as a whole,

  1. IITM Janakpuri has been developing at a steady pace ever since its establishment, in terms of its academic quality, and the number of students.
  2. In fact, IITM Janakpuri has been accredited grade “A” by NAAC. Moreover, the institute is affiliated with IPU Delhi and is simultaneously also approved by AICTE.
  3. The major upside is that students from IITM Janakpuri secure placement offer from several top-ranked firms around the world, including Jaro Education, HDFC, RBS, Tech Mahindra, Genpact, etc with reasonable salary packages.
  4. Moreover, the institute will encourage you to take part in various inter and intra college Extracurricular activities as well.

What is the difference in written exam and interview for sponsored candidates to regular candidates at IIT Bhubaneswar?

RS
Rudra Sengupta Posted On : August 19th, 2020
CSE from IITBBSR (2020)

The admission to the M.Tech programs at IIT Bhubaneswar is done based on the performance of the students in GATE.

Regular candidates:-

The shortlisting of regular candidates for admission into MTech is based on their GATE score only. The fixing of the cutoff score for candidates in different categories is as per the norms of the institute. For the selection of regular candidates, 70% of weightage is given to the GATE score and 30% to the written tests and interviews. The written test and the interviews are given 15% weightage each.

A student from the unreserved category is selected for the interview if he/she scores a minimum of 40% in the written test and for final selection, candidates need to score a minimum of 50% marks in the interview. The ultimate selection of the candidates is based on the combined score of GATE, written test, and interview.

Sponsored Candidates:-

The candidates who served for three years in the sponsoring organization are known as sponsored candidates. The sponsored candidates can be divided into three categories and the shortlisting and selection procedure for the different categories are discussed below.

  • The sponsored candidates with a valid GATE score undergo the same shortlisting and selection process as the regular candidates.
  • Sponsored candidates without GATE score are shortlisted if he/she secured a minimum of 65% (or 7.0 CGPA in a 10-point scale) marks in all academics. The weightage for the written test and the interview is 70% and 30% respectively. Candidates are considered eligible for interviews if they secure a minimum of 40% marks in the written test and for final selection, they need to secure a minimum of 50% marks in the interview.
  • The candidates sponsored by DRDO are selected through approved internal processes and admitted to the appropriate discipline.

Which one should I prefer for MTech in CSE? I got a call letter from IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Bhubaneswar, and IIT Patna. Their dates are clashing. I got 1,121 rank in the GATE 2018.

SG

Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (2020)

IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Bhubaneswar, and IIT Patna, all the three IITs are among the second generation of IITs. According to the NIRF Rankings of 2020 IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Gandhinagar, and IIT Patna are ranked 22, 24, and 26  among the engineering colleges respectively. So it is difficult to decide which college is better for an MTech in CSE among these three. Given below is a brief discussion of the CSE Mtech programs offered at these IITs which will help you in making the decision.

The placement highlights of the IIT Patna for 2019 show, a total of 7 students got placed from the CSE department and 10 offers were received. The average CTC offered at this IIT was around 13.5 LPA. IIT Bhubaneswar also offers decent placement to the CSE students, in 2019 placement drive MTech courses had a 68% placement rate with an average CTC of 11.4 LPA. Whereas, IIT Gandhinagar had an increase in PG placements with an average CTC 8.29 LPA.

So, in terms of placement IIT Patna has a slight edge over the other two institutes. Apart from the great placement record, the coding culture in IIT Patna is quite developed as compared to IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT Gandhinagar.

How is the civil engineering department at IIT BHU?

PD
Pritam Das Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech Civil Engineering Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2018)

Civil engineering is one of the oldest branches at IIT BHU and largest in the country. Recently the architecture department also was inaugurated at IIT BHU which is headed by one of the professors of the Civil Engineering Department. This department has well-funded labs which are equipped with modern instruments. Professors of this department are well qualified and most of them are from IITs. The structural engineering department is quite a robust one and some of the professors have worked on projects as big as the Hirakud dam construction.

The department has developed close links with international and national organizations which helps during placement times. Placement statistics are also promising, here at IIT BHU and some of the offers are comparable to the other branches such as CSE and ECE. This department has taken up various research programs by CSIR, UGC, SAP, HUDCO, and many more. They also cooperated with industries to work on projects given by Govt., Semi-Govt., and private organization. This branch would provide you with enough opportunities involving real-time problems in the city and around the campus. Also due to increasing urbanization, civil engineering has a high scope. It is a perfect branch if you wish to have a government job and aspire for IAS, IES, and UPSC. On top of that civil engineering could be regarded as one of the easiest amongst core branches.

Overall, the civil engineering department at IIT BHU is worth joining and has a quite appreciable image as opposed to the perception of this branch elsewhere.

How do I prepare for the IIT Bhubaneswar written test and interview of power electronics and drives?

A
Admin Posted On : July 2nd, 2024

I am a student at IIT Bhubaneswar and I can share a few insights that will help guide you to prepare for the IIT Bhubaneswar written text and interview. You must prepare well for the written test as too many basic and technical questions are being asked. I will share the question pattern for the written test below:

  • 35 questions (90 minutes)
  • 1-20 (1 mark questions)
  • 21-35 (2 mark questions)
  • No Negative Marking

My interview experience was good. The interview lasted for 5-6 mins. There were only 5 panel members which is the usual number of members in the panel. For the interview be confident and answer the questions asked in detail. You must prepare properly for your specialization.
