Though BIT Mesra is a highly renowned engineering college, I would advise against joining any other branch at it except for CS/IT. The other branches are not very good placement-wise, especially when BIT Mesra is such a renowned college.
Core companies do visit the Chemical department for placements, recruiting a decent number of students each year. Apart from them, few Analytics firms and IT companies also recruit from the department. These IT companies include Infosys and Cognizant. Some of the department students clear exams like CAT or GATE, and as a result, go for higher studies/PSUs.
In 2022, from B.Tech Chemical Engineering (excluding Plastic and Polymer), 34 out of 45 students were successfully placed from the campus (43 were eligible for placements). The lowest CTC was 4 LPA, the average CTC was 8.44 LPA, the median CTC was 8.10 LPA, and the highest CTC was 12.84 LPA during these placements.
Thus, BIT Mesra is not a very good choice for Chemical Engineering in terms of placements.
According to the student’s reviews online, you should not opt for chemical engineering at NIT Rourkela.
Here are some reasons as to why:
Lastly, the placement scenario of this department is bad. Most of the students are going into the IT sector and a very few got recruited in core industries and many students did not even receive placement offers.
So considering everything it is suggested you do not pursue chemical engineering at NIT Rourkela.
Chemical engineering at IIT Roorkee is a branch of engineering that deals with the design, development, and operation of chemical processes. The scope of chemical engineering at IIT Roorkee covers a broad range of fields such as process design, process control, process dynamics and control, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, reaction engineering, separations, environmental engineering, materials science and engineering, biotechnology, and more.
The branch offers three programs
The course structure at Undergrad level is simple and comprises repetitive concepts. Anyone with enough knowledge of basic class 12th Physical Chemistry will be able to master the course.
The placement scenario has witnessed a gradual decline owing to the increasing batch size every year. One rarely gets an off-campus job anymore.
The jobs of chemical engineers are usually in the process industry and are very challenging, especially in refineries and Oil rigs. Moreover, the job location is usually far off.
My knowledge is limited to Undergraduate courses only and I have no idea about PG and Research.
IIT Guwahati has wrapped the first phase of placement 2023 placement drive with 919 offers. Around 1269 students opted for campus placements. IIT Guwahati's highest international package was recorded at INR 2.4 CPA whereas IIT Guwahati's highest domestic package stood at INR 1.2 CPA. Some major recruiters included Larsen & Toubro, Schlumberger, Piramal, TVS R&D, GAIL, etc.
Specifically talking about Chemical engineering, the average package of a chemical graduate from IIT Guwahati is around INR 15 LPA.
The average salary and median salary as well as the number of students placed were the highest for the B.Tech & B.Des students. The placement percentage was also the highest for the B.Tech & B.Des batch.
Placements Of Chemical engineering at IIT BHU are quite decent. The average package which a chemical engineering student gets depends on the sector in which he/she will work. Broadly speaking, there are two sectors of work for chemical engineering students, first the core sector and second the non- core sector. The core sector comprises like ONGC, IOCL, HUL, ITC, etc. offers ranged between 10- 12 lakhs per annum in the year 2019. From the chemical engineering department, a total of 43 students got placed last year.
The second sector is the non-core sector which comprises software, analytics, and consultancy firms. Placements in this sector are relatively easy because more job offers are available particularly in the software sector. The average package offered by software firms is around 23- 24 lacs per annum and the highest package offered in this sector was 55 lacs per annum. These companies are not interested in academic credentials but are only concerned about the coding knowledge of the applicants. Generally, if a student starts coding in his/her 4th year then he/she settles with a package of Rs 10- 13 lacs per annum, but on the contrary, if a student starts coding from his/her first year then he/she generally gets a package of around 35 lacs. Also, some students pursue their career in analytical and consultancy firms. The average package in these firms is around 15 lacs per annum.
The Chemical Engineering branch at NIT Trichy offers a multifaceted course and that’s what made my friend choose it. NIT Trichy has a well-organized syllabus that ensures maximum understanding of the concepts. I will be addressing the topics you mentioned in the question individually.
Schedule
Chemical Engineering students at NIT Trichy have a balanced campus life with enough time for extracurricular activities.

Placements
Overall, the chemical engineering department is a highly regarded branch and will be a great choice for those looking for an interdisciplinary course.
You can try for a branch change at NIT Warangal. It is not that easy; you need to be consistent in your studies throughout the year. Students with a good CGPA only have the chance for a branch change. All the branches are excellent at NIT Warangal, so do not worry about the faculty and placement. Chemical Engineering is a broad field that will open up ample opportunities in the future
To be frank, the placement scenario in NIT Srinagar for the Chemical Engineering branch is below average. Most of the students have to struggle for placements in the IT sector as only a few companies allow students of all branches to sit for placements. The ones that don’t get placed have no option but to steer their goal toward GATE to pursue higher studies and make it to PSUs.
I asked a friend of mine for the exact placement scenario since the institute does not release official data. As per him, the placements are average as compared to non-core branches. Around 60-70% of students got placed in this course with the highest salary package offered around 18.5 LPA and the lowest salary package offered around 6 LPA. Some top recruiting companies are Vedantu, EIL, GAIL, ONGC, etc.
Overall, the chemical engineering branch will offer better opportunities only if you go for higher education.
Both NIT Warangal and BITS Hyderabad/Goa are enormous and well-known colleges. If you choose either of them for a particular field it will be worth it. Just make sure of that in whichever college you are, give your best and you shall lead to success.
Both the colleges stand equally in terms of academics and placement statistics.
Categories | Chemical Engineering at NIT Warangal | Chemical Engineering at BITS (Hyderabad/Goa) |
Course Fee | 5.00 lakh | 19.19 lakh |
Highest CTC | 20 LPA | 25 LPA |
Average CTC | 7 LPA | 10 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | Aditya Birla, ITC, Cipla, Dr. Reddy Pharmaceutical, etc. | Deccan Chemicals, Pfizer, Shell, Honeywell, etc. |
Further, I would advise you for NIT as it has less fees so there will be less burden on you and your family. Faculties are good in NIT as well. You will get the NIT brand associated with you which is very prestigious.
VIT's Chemical Engineering degree is highly regarded as it offers the best chemical engineering degree in the entire state.
Overall, Chemical Engineering at VIT Pune is a self-driven department so the students will be learning much more than just core concepts.
