Tezal Dahiya Posted On : September 6th, 2023

NIT Surathkal and NIT Warangal are leading institutes in India. Both of them have a good placement record in the Department of Chemical Engineering.

NIT Warangal has a branch change policy that helps you change your branch after the first semester (with a good CGPA). Most students prefer the CSE branch because they get ample opportunities in a particular field.

The final decision is yours. I hope you will make a wise decision

How is the chemical engineering branch at Manipal Institute of Technology?

MS
Medha Sinha Posted On : September 9th, 2023
Studied at Manipal University

MIT's chemical department has a rich legacy of over 50 years and is one of the university's oldest and most reputed departments. Here are a few core highlights of the department

  • The department has a strong alumni network and some of them have made it to the position of Board of Directors of big companies.
  • The faculty is highly qualified with excellent research experience, strict yet helpful in clearing your doubts.
  • MIT Manipal does not have a very active research culture, especially at the UG level. The scenario however is gradually improving as they are being called for conferences with well-published journals.
  • The curriculum of the chemistry department of MIT Manipal is decent and at par with BITS since the HOD was an alumnus of BITS.
  • The department has well-equipped Chemical Engineering laboratories such as Mass Transfer, Heat Transfer, and a Process Control lab.
  • There is also a computer lab decked with the latest engineering software - CAD, Aspen, and Matlab.
  • As per the institute's Practice School Policy, students can complete their final year projects outside the institution.
  • It will be difficult to secure core jobs at MIT Manipal because there are very few core chemical industries on the placement list. Students can easily get a job in the service /IT industry. A few companies that have recruited students from this department in the past are Jindal Steels, Grasim Textiles, Reliance, and Mangalore Refinery.

Hope my answer gave you a clear insight into the chemistry department of MIT Manipal.

How is chemical engineering in PDPU compared to chemical engineering in Nirma University?

SL
Sachin Lakhani Posted On : January 19th, 2022
B.Tech Chemical Engineering, Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Gandhinagar (2020)

According to the reviews online, here are some of the facts about both these colleges, and which one will be the better choice for pursuing chemical engineering.

  • Nirma University’s cut off is higher than PDPU.
  • Nirma is a much more established and experienced college than PDPU.
  • Both colleges have highly qualified and cooperative faculty members.
  • The laboratories of PDPU are much more well maintained and upgraded than Nirma, as it is much younger compared to Nirma.
  • The labs in PDPU are all facilitated with modern and updated machinery, required for practicals.
  • PDPU has a complete air-conditioned campus, whereas in Nirma some classes are not fully air conditioned.
  • PDPU being a comparatively newer institution has better, well maintained infrastructure than Nirma.
  • PDPU gives students the proper industrial exposure. They conduct events like ‘International Conference on Chemical Industry (ICCI)’, which happens only in the Chemical Department, no other department has organised a grand event in the last 5 years.
Categories Nirma University PDPU
Course Fee INR 7.24 lakh INR 9.73 lakh
Placement Percentage 70% 80%
Highest CTC 13 LPA 8-12 LPA
Average CTC 6-7 LPA 7-7.5 LPA
Recruiting Companies Reliance, L&T, Worley Engineering, Jubilant Life Sciences, etc. Super Gas, GSFC, Thermax, DCM Shriram, etc.

Therefore, it is suggested that you go for PDPU if fees are not your primary concern. Students at PDPU will definitely get better opportunities for chemical engineering than Nirma. Even if Nirma is a more experienced institution, the newer approach of PDPU will always help you get accustomed to the functioning in today’s industries.

Which is better, manit bhopal chemical or sgsits indore mechanical?

Sabeer Chalana Posted On : November 11th, 2023

First of all, your field of interest matters the most. If you are interested in Chemical, opt for MANIT Bhopal. But if you are inclined towards Mechanical, opt for SGSITS Indore.

MANIT will offer you the prestigious NIT tag. But as a student of SGSITS, I would like to highlight some advantages of joining Mechanical at my college-

  1. Prithampura is the industrial hub of Indore. It has many industries, where you’ll easily get a job as an SGSITS student. Most of these industries visit the campus for placements as well.
  1. SGSITS is located at the heart of Indore city. So you can easily access coaching centers for UPSC, GATE, CAT, etc. These coaching centers are located very close to the campus. The students of our college perform really well in all these competitive exams.

Based on the limited information provided by me, I hope you get a rough idea on which path will be best for you.

What is the placement record of chemical engineering department of IIT Guwahati?

PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : May 4th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

The placement scenario of the Chemical Engineering department of IIT Guwahati is just average with only a handful of companies visiting the campus for placements. The packages offered too are not at par with other IITs.

My sister was a student at IIT Guwahati and she told me that many of her batchmates remained unplaced. Specifically talking about Mtech, core jobs are scarce and only your luck can help you.

I will recommend you entirely focus on preparing for PSU or GRE and target a Ph.D. from a foreign university. The professors at IIT Guwahati have good connections abroad and their reference and guidance will help you to choose the best universities, and publish good research journals. Ph.D. students have to do the job hunting themselves and not rely on placements.

Those who opt for non-core placements can avail the best opportunities with great packages even better than the core. All you need is a decent proficiency in coding and knowledge of a few programming languages.

What is taught in "Chemical Engineering" at IIT Kanpur?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : April 25th, 2023

Chemical Engineering at IIT Kanpur is a program that lays emphasis on the design and operation of chemical processes, as well as the development of new materials and technologies. Some of the core topics that are covered in this program include

  • thermodynamics
  • kinetics
  • chemical reaction engineering
  • process design
  • heat and mass transfer
  • process control

The syllabus of Chemical Engineering or that of any other branch of Engineering is the same across all universities and sometimes even the books are the same. Every Institute carries out lab work, practical assignments, and projects according to its faculty, infrastructure, and the quality of exposure offered to students. What differs is the ambiance in which students are taught. This largely depends on the quality of the batch the Institute attracts.

Many confuse chemistry with Chemical Engineering though both are poles apart. Chemistry defines the number of parameters, quantity, and form of chemicals to produce a product whereas Chemical Engineering specifies the method of operation in order to achieve the parameters.

The most common sector for chemical engineering is Oil & Gas, Refinery, and Petrochemicals. These industries will not only offer a high-paying job but also provide you with enough international exposure. A highly skilled chemical engineer is paid well.
