When it's about the best, it depends on the parameters of comparison. The University of HRD had recently come up with the measures to rank any educational institute or university.

• To find out the best, cater these parameters and calculate the score for evaluation if the University is best or not. The parameters are available on the website of the Ministry of HRD.
• You could check the cut-off of previous years or the last 2-3 years and compare it with the same course offered in any other Institute.
• Another way is to talk with any alumni of the Institute or a student of final year to get a good understanding of the Institute.
• Research about main features such as academics, faculty, facilities, placements, infrastructure, extra-curricular, sports, guest lectures, seminars, practical knowledge, exposure, and opportunities, etc.

A few of my friends are alumni from IIIT Allahabad. The scope of the Dual Degree BTech + MTech course is good.

• For the first 3 years of the course, the curriculum is exactly the same. All the students (Dual Degree as well as BTech) attend the same classes, sit for the same exams, get the same results together. However, from the fourth year onwards, the specialization courses start.

• Once you complete the dual degree course, you will be eligible to sit for the same placement rounds as BTech guys. The results of which depend entirely on your knowledge & skills you have acquired during last 4-5 years.

• However, Dual Degrees will especially help you if you are interested in R&D areas.

The only reason that the cutoff is a little bit lower for Dual Degree courses is that many of you might be hesitant to spend one extra year in college. But for a college like IIIT Allahabad, it is worth spending an extra year. Sadly, in 2018 the 5-year dual degree courses were disbanded due to some administrative instability.

My brother scored 428 in 2015, and he was qualified for the CSE branch, but instead, he chose ME. In the current situation, a score of more than 440 is required to obtain a spot in CSE.
