Which one amongst IIIT Hyderabad and (one of the) IITs should someone choose who wants to study Computer Science ?

If you want to seriously pursue a career in CS, look no more for IIIT Hyderabad is the best option for you. Despite being young, it is easily comparable to the old IITs and its improving brand value and academic quality has managed to attract the best crowd. Here are a few other aspects that should be considered

  • Coding Culture: The institute has an exceptionally good coding culture that is maintained through frequent internal programming contests. The institute also participates in the ACM-ICPC World Finals every year and has made several achievements.
  • Contributions: IIIT Hyderabad students make a lot of open-source contributions. The increasing number of students who get selected for coding events such as Google Summer of Code, is a testament to the same.
  • Research: IIIT Hyderabad curriculum is designed in such a way that it encourages students to pursue research. Students even at the UG level here can be seen involved in Artificial Intelligence or Advanced Algorithms-based projects and even have publications in the same.
  • Faculty: The most important aspect is the faculty which is again very good in the case of IIIT Hyderabad. Most professors are PhDs from well-reputed colleges in India and abroad. These professors encourage the students to pursue MS and Ph.D. as well as summer internships or projects in overseas universities.
  • Entrepreneurship: IIIT Hyderabad has always promoted the Entrepreneurship culture among its students. Students also excel in diverse fields like finance, consulting, etc. by doing well in exams like CFA, CAT, or GMAT. However, I will say that IITs would provide you with better opportunities in this aspect as of now.

Ultimately, an institute can only guide you but cannot be completely responsible for shaping your career. So choose wisely!

What are some bitter truths about Great Lakes, Chennai, PGDM?

GM

Great Lakes Institute of Management

Great Lakes Chennai is a dream college of many MBA aspirants but the truth is it is kind of overestimated. One of my friends who is a recent pass-out, unveiled some dark truths about the institute

  • The admission process at Great Lakes is highly biased and untransparent. The majority of seats are filled by Management quota thus affecting those who had high percentile and performed excellently in the interview.
  • My friend also told me how Great Lakes charged registration fees for the WAT/PI round and filled those seats with Management quota.
  • The rankings of the institute are forged and paid. Don't let these rankings make you believe that it is at par with top B Schools.

These were some harsh realities about the Great Lakes that I felt anyone planning to join it should be aware of.

I'm doing PCME in 11-12th grade with no economics background. Can I pursue economics honours from symbiosis or any other college for undergrad?

SV

Political Science Honors at Jadavpur University (2019)

Yes, you can undeniably pursue economics honors from any college, even if you didn’t have Economics in your 12th. The first semester in economics ug degree is dedicated to the basic and fundamental understanding of the subject, which is also taught in school. Thus, even if you have not studied the aspects of it in school, the college you are part of will certainly cover the topics you still have to know about.

But if you are planning to do a course in Economics, it will be better to make yourself familiar with the basic concept of the course. Pick up some books on Economics after you are done with your entrance examinations if you are planning on giving any. My friends with Economics degrees suggested the following books that you can begin with.

  • Introductory Microeconomics by Deepashree (taught in the 12th standard)
  • Introductory Macroeconomics by Deepashree (for the 12th standard again)
  • Principles of economics by Mankiw (this is taught in the college for the first semester or anytime during the first year)

These are to name a few. You can likewise add on more.

Which one is better: taking mechanical engineering at IIT BHU or civil engineering in IIT Roorkee?

A
Admin Posted On : July 3rd, 2024

I am a B.Tech Civil student at IIT Roorkee. Here’s a comparison between the two options-

Parameters IIT Roorkee Civil IIT BHU Mechanical
Average Package INR 18 LPA INR 21.95 LPA (around 80% students get placed)
Top Recruiters on campus Larsen, Turbo, Tata, Sprinklr, Jio, L&T, Godrej, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Zepto, Google, Jaguar Land Rover. Amazon, American Express, Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, Google, ITC Ltd., Microsoft, Oracle, Paytm, etc.
Research Facilities One of the best research facilities at the Civil Engineering Department of IIT Roorkee. Ample research opportunities and well-equipped laboratories.

One important thing that my friends told me is that the Mechanical Engineering Department at IIT BHU is one of the strictest departments in India. It makes the students question their own potential. The department professors are very strict and the coursework is extremely rigorous. The students are given assignments and projects which they have to complete within a day.

I would suggest you choose IIT Roorkee Civil as it offers the same facilities and placements as IIT BHU Mechanical. Moreover, the Civil department at IITR is not as strict as the Mechanical department at IIT BHU.

How you rate Great Lakes Chennai or Gurgaon for PGPM?

GM
Gaurav Mukharjee Posted On : July 11th, 2023
Great Lakes Institute of Management

Since its establishment, Great Lakes be it Chennai or Gurgaon has been delivering premium quality management education at par with recent industry trends.

As per the official rankings, Great Lales Chennai ranked 31st among management institutes by NIRF 2023 and 11th among private colleges by IIRF Ranking 2023. On the other hand, Great Lakes Gurgaon was ranked 62 out of 125 colleges by NIRF in India in 2023 and it was 52 out of 125 colleges in India in 2022.

However, these rankings are highly transparent and misleading. Either the ranking parameters are not credible or the institutes refuse to participate resulting in exaggerated figures. So it's best to talk to alumni to get a better picture and don’t just rely on rankings.

Which one is better: IIT Tirupati or IIT Bhilai?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : July 15th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

When it comes to the new IITs, they all are similar and you won’t find any major differences in terms of infrastructure, education, or even placements. So now the question arises, how to choose one over the other? Well, the best way is to decide the branch you are going to take and then the IIT that offers it best. If you are going for CSE, IIT Bhilai will be your best option. Moreover, the branch change policy here is very lenient so with enough effort you can transfer into EE kr ME.

IIT Bhilai CSE is the best option because

  • Life at IIT Bhilai Is very happening and the coding culture is way better than IIT Tirupati.
  • The director himself belongs to the Computer Science branch so the branch is mentored directly by him.
  • The low batch size ensures better attention to students both from the faculty and the director.
  • IIT Bhilai has strong ties with reputed institutes and industries in CS.
  • The students are challenged through frequent projects and quizzes which are highly engaging and intriguing.

Overall, choosing IIT Bhilai over IIT Tirupati will be an excellent decision for you!

What integrated course can I get into at BITS Goa with a mark of 275?

SY
Shreyashi Yadav Posted On : November 10th, 2022
Lives in Texas, United States

BITS Pilani is nearly impossible to beat at any score lower than 305.

Unless you are in an "IIT," or unless you are only concerned with the college brand name, the subjects you will study in the future. To be honest, your skills and knowledge will get you everything, but stream allows you to become eligible to sit for the jobs you want. You should emphasize focusing on the stream rather than the college brand name because many colleges have eligibility criteria, i.e. CSE/IT students can apply but others cannot, and thus other students are not exposed to enough opportunities, as is the case at the college where I did my undergrad and many other colleges.

RM
Rajashree Mukharjee Posted On : October 29th, 2021

As you haven’t mentioned your course specifically it’s hard to say how you can score well for LLB examinations in KSLU. Since mark division in theory and internals vary for different programs. However, given below are some of the ways you can increase your marks irrespective of your course.

  • Your answers should be to the point. Don’t just fill out your paper.
  • Your answer should be relevant to your syllabus.
  • Work on writing well-structured answers. If you are writing an essay-type question, figure out how to structure it best without breaking the flow.
  • For logical answers, illustrations can be useful.
  • Neat answers, giving examples and using methodical writing can get good scores in the examination.

Hope this gives you an idea of how to write answers to score well in KSLU.
