I am confused amongst IIIT Delhi, NSIT, and DTU for CSE. What are some suggestions?

A
Admin Posted On : October 5th, 2023

All three colleges namely, IIIT Delhi, NSIT, and DTU are excellent options for CSE. However, you might want to consider the following points before making the final decision

  • Campus life: In terms of campus life, the DTU is the best option followed by NSUT and IIIT Delhi. DTU offers a very laid-back cap pledge life experience with a minimal workload and a lot of time to pursue your hobbies. There aren’t many restrictions on attendance also.
  • Curriculum: IIIT Delhi is a clear winner in terms of curriculum as it has no extra subjects in the first year. Students are taught coding languages and related assignments from day one and thus prepare students better than their counterparts.
  • Research: IIIT Delhi is a research-oriented institute and has better research facilities, labs, and resources. DTU and NSUT have a similar research culture.
  • Infrastructure: IIIT Delhi is a newly established college so has modern infrastructure, although the campus is small. DTU and NSUT have larger campuses and better sports facilities.
  • Fees: IIIT Delhi charges extremely high fees around INR 4.62 Lakhs (1st Year Fees) which is almost double the fees charged by DTU INR 2.19 Lakhs (1st Year Fees)

So choose wisely based on your priorities!

How is the placement of biotech in NIT Durgapur?

RS
Raghav Saini Posted On : September 7th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology Durgapur (2022)

As an alumni of Biotech at NIT Durgapur, I will tell you about the placement scenario of this course.

Only 20-30% Biotech students are placed, mostly through Mass hirings. Usually the salary ranges from 3-4 LPA. Those who are able to grab IT jobs are offered around 5-6 LPA. These are hardly 4-6 students from an entire batch. Top IT and consulting companies visiting the campus do not allow Biotech students to sit for placements. Also, core companies do not visit the campus for placements.

Do not join Biotechnology at NIT Durgapur if you seek placements. But for higher studies, you can join this department. Students from Biotech get admissions into renowned Indian and foreign universities for higher education.

How is life like for a civil services aspirant in JNU, Delhi?

DS
Deepika Sinha Posted On : August 5th, 2023
studied at Jawaharlal Nehru University

The life of a civil service aspirant at JNU is worthwhile and interesting. It is a little bit tougher to stay focused and determined on campus. But many students with strong determination and motivation reached their goal. The life of a civil service aspirant is detailed below

  • They work very hard with a consistent study routine. They are stiff-minded and most of them wake up early in the morning and start their preparation
  • Books are their best companion, and rooms are filled with splendid books. They are quick-witted
  • They mugged up each and every topic that came under the background of humanities, arts, and science.  JNU has a vast library with a rich book collection starting at the 9th-grade level, and you can also make use of the bookshop available nearby the campus. This institution also has the advantage of a huge collection of online academic resources
  • The renewal of our registration every semester never lets us stay away from our goal. There are distractions on campus due to varied reasons, like politics. But a civil service aspirant should never fall for entertainment
  • JNU is gifted with experienced scholars, and they give full support to the students, especially civil service aspirants. You can contact any of the faculty to clear your doubts without any hesitation

Last but not least, Don’t mess up with your health during your studies; make sure you have 7 hours of sleep every day and do proper exercises, which will help you boost your energy and stay active

I could have got Ajay Kumar Garg (CS) but I chose ABES Engineering College (CS). Did I make the right choice?

SS
Shruti Sen Posted On : May 11th, 2021
B.Tech Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communications Engineering, ABES Engineering College

Both the colleges are similar to each other in many ways and are located in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. They are affiliated with the same university, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU).

For the year 2018-19, there was a total of 847 job offers made to B.Tech students of Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College. ABES Engineering College had a total of 233 students in the CS department participating in the placement process with 209 getting placed receiving a total of 305 job offers with INR 10 LPA as the highest salary for the current year.

Apart from these, there are some really good things to look forward to on the campus –

  • Personality and skill development – It has a Student Employability Enhancement Program (SEEP) running to help you improve your soft skills and overall personality to make you ready for corporate life. If you want to improve your core coding skill, it has 2 specialized coding clubs to do that.
  • General life – They organize the techno-cultural fest GENERO every year. They also recently organized their first TEDx event, TEDxABESCE. The students of the college have also formed an NGO Help Us to Help the Child (HUHC) with more than 180 volunteers.
  • College Amenities and support – The infrastructure is really very good, especially the library. The college gives freedom to its students to attend programs run by other departments as well which helps you to become multi-talented. Even though many students outside of the college think that the extra rules imposed on the students make them feel like school students, but in reality that is part of the student development.

Do not doubt about your choice you have already made. There is no point in that. In contrast, try to make use of all the facilities being given to you and you would never regret your choice.

Which is the best hostel in IIT Delhi? Can we choose which hostel we want to stay in?

SG
Sushmita Gupta Posted On : April 3rd, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

IIT Delhi has both old as well as new hostels and obviously the new ones have better facilities and infrastructure. The new hostels are Girnar and Udaigiri and have spacious rooms and have 8 floors each with a total of 400 rooms in each hostel. These hostels have a big crowd which means a bigger hostel family to interact with during events. The mess facilities are also considerably better and bigger than old hostels.

The old hostel buildings have only 3-4 floors with smaller rooms and less facilities. But these hostels have a nostalgia associated with many toppers who are successful people today. This spirit keeps the ambiance of these old hostels lively.

Honestly, I wouldn’t say one hostel is better than the other. Every hostel has its unique aspects and cannot be compared.

As for the choice of hostels, no, you cannot choose your hostel. It is allotted to you randomly at the time of admission, every hostel having a mixed bag of students. You cannot change your hostel unless it’s a serious issue.

After completing a B.Tech from NIT Trichy, is it advisable to pursue an M.Tech in IITs or IISc?

PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : July 19th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

No, it's certainly not a wise decision to pursue an MTech after completing BTech from NIT Trichy. The courses and the approach are similar, giving you no newer perspectives and wasting 2 years as well as the money spent. A better alternative is to go for an MS or Ph.D. abroad instead. That will be the true utilization of your money, knowledge, and time.

However, if you are hesitant about going abroad, an MBA from an Indian B school is also a great option.

An MTech in IIT should only be considered if you have a low CGPA and have no project achievement up your sleeve. The MTech course will give you a second chance to improve your grades and work well on projects improving your profile as a whole. This will help you open better Ph.D. options. But if you are not planning to do one, then MTech is again of no use.

How much do the top b-schools like the IIM's, FMS, MDI, XLRI, SPJAIN, JBIMS, IIFT, and NITIE inflate their placement reports?

AB
Aritra Bose Posted On : May 14th, 2021
Studies at Management Development Institute, Gurgaon (2022)

The inflation in the package is mostly done by the companies that come to the colleges for hiring. They mention the CTC i.e. the cost to the company, not the actual in-hand salary. There are two major components of CTC i.e. the fixed and the variable component.

Fixed component: This refers to the CTC to which you are entitled to. This is not the in-hand salary. This consists of various components like basic salary, HRA, TA, LTA, PF, joining bonus, and retention bonus.

Variable component: This refers to the incentives or any other kind of bonuses which is given to you based on your performance. While calculating the CTC, the variable component is also added. Some of the companies don’t add the variable components in their CTC.

So, in hand salary = basic+HRA+TA+other allowances - pf deduction - tax. Some of the examples of salary distribution of the companies (for tier-1 institutes) are as follows.

Amazon

Fixed component

9 lacs

1st-year retention bonus

2 lacs

2nd-year retention bonus

1.5 lacs

ESOP

5 lacs to be paid over 3 years.

Performance bonus

Separate not reported

CTC

17.5 lacs

In hand salary

65,000-70,000

RBS India Development Center (Royal Bank of Scotland back-end)

Fixed component

9 lacs

Variable component

10-20 % of the fixed

CTC

10.8 lacs

In hand salary

65,000-68,000

You can clearly see that Amazon’s and RBS development center’s in-hand salary are the same despite their CTC. Amazon’s CTC is much higher. Placement teams at these institutes have very little to do with inflated figures.
