How difficult it is for an average student to crack XAT exam to get XLRI? How much is the CAT score of students who go for XLRI?

SS
Shivani Singh Posted On : June 9th, 2021
MBA Operations Management & Marketing, Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi (2018)

Well, my friend has appeared for both CAT and XAT exams. She filled the MBA admission form from XLRI knowing the difficulty level of XAT. XLRI is a prominent university that has high demands among the students hence, it isn’t easy to take admission here. If you clear CAT with good marks, there are high possibilities to clear XAT with good marks as well.

  1. There are few instances where students scoring low percentage in CAT, score more percentage in XAT. It happens because they divide the paper according to their skills. If you are good at the quant section, you may clear CAT quite easily.
  2. On the other hand, XAT is all about verbal and decision-making skills yet you need to make sure that you score around the passing marks in the quant section.
  3. CAT is about 66% of quant questions whereas XAT has 37% of the quant questions; which has sums based on ethical decision making. However, scoring up to the mark in XAT and CAT comes hand in hand as the difficulty level for both the exams is similar.

Considering the ‘average’ students who usually score average in academics, they have an equal chance to get admission. Moreover, I believe that besides passing or scoring good marks in the XAT or CAT, the admission of the students depends on other factors like knowledge, performance in GD-PI and total appearing candidates.

What are the chances of a fresher to get selected in FMS, XLRI, MDI with less than 60% in 12th?

AC
Abhirup Chatterjee Posted On : September 14th, 2022
PGDM in Human Resources, Xavier School of Management

It will be difficult to get into colleges such as FMS, XLRI, and MDI with less than 60% in 12th. But it’s achievable. FMS assigns 10% weight to 10+2 scores. So, if you manage to score around the 99.5 percentile in CAT, you will have a chance of getting shortlisted. You need to perform well in the GD-PI round as well. XLRI and MDI assign 15% weight to past academics and work experience.

So, try to work on your profile by adding extra-curricular activities. Also, prepare well for entrance tests and the GD-PI round.

In India, how are XLRI, XIMB, and XIME related? Does XLRI play any role with XIMB or XIME?

AB
Anamika Banerjee Posted On : March 8th, 2022
PGDBM Marketing & Operations Management, Xavier School of Management (2016)

XLRI, XIMB, and XIME all three of these colleges are governed by the Jesuit Society. XAT is the common entrance examination for these institutes. Although XLRI conducts XAT, it doesn’t play any role in admission at XIMB and XIME. Some faculties of XLRI teach in XIMB and vice versa. Many visiting professors are also common to these three institutes.

Do XLRI HRM students get placed in general consulting roles also?

GS
Gargi Sinha Posted On : October 1st, 2022
PGDHRM from Xavier School of Management

Yes, XLRI HRM students get placed in general consulting roles also. According to recent statistics, around 15% of students from HRM get placement opportunities in consulting firms. But most of these consulting jobs offered were either from Big4 or niche HR Consulting firms such as Mercer, Hewitt, Hay, etc. No sales/marketing roles are offered at XLRI. Management Trainee program is the only way to achieve a successful sales stint.

Will people be eligible to apply for PGDM BM at XLRI, Jamshedpur if one has secured less than 50% in their graduation?

SP
Sania Paul Posted On : May 25th, 2021
studied MBA from XLRI

Having friends at XLRI, I can only suggest you keep in mind these few facts if you're passionate about getting into any high-quality B-School.

  • Understand that people at B-Schools care about your marks very seriously.
  • The competition level at any B-School would be so intense that the panel would not just consider people with a great academic background. They would take a month/year's work experience into consideration, too.

The status that XLRI or any great B-School carries would not be put at risk by admitting candidates who do not have a quality academic background. You have to at least maintain a minimum of the criteria that these institutes demand.

  • Recruiters that approach these reputed B-Schools for placements belong to different firms. For instance- Finance (Citibank, SoftBank, Goldman Sachs Group); Consulting (PWC, BCG, McKenzie); Marketing (P&G, Nestlé, HUL), and others.
  • These companies check the candidate's academic background.
  • The minimum percentage level they take into consideration for shortlisting is 60% at the graduation level. If your score is beyond that and you have been a university topper, it would be a plus.

Because of the reputation factor, FMS/XLRI/SPJIMR, etc. would not put their reputation at stake by admitting students with a poor academic background. Therefore, instead of focusing on that, it will be wise to focus and perform well in other exams like - MICAT, NMAT, SNAP, IIFT, CAT, XAT so that you can get a call from any one of the top 20 B-Schools of India.

Despite a 50% score in your graduation, you still think about getting into a reputed institute like XLRI. This shows how much faith you carry in yourself.
