How is the life of a person after getting placement from NITIE (pgdie) in terms of job satisfaction, work life balance, job security, work load etc?

One of my sisters is a former student of NITIE. She was amongst the toppers of NITIE with a pretty amazing experience after getting placed. Here’s what she had to say about her experience:

  • Job satisfaction: She got placed in Amazon with a great CTC. It was a great opportunity for her.
  • Work-life balance: It depends on person to person. You should maintain a work-life balance to conserve your mental health and energy.
  • Job security: This depends on your skillset and talent. Most people will never talk about this. If you are confident about yourself you wouldn’t be worried about job security.
  • Workload: Being a student at NITIE, you will get used to the workload of studying at night, and of course when a company pays you a good salary, they will demand quality work too.

All of these factors vary from person to person. It all comes down to your skills, talents, and ability to deal with different problems.

Which would be better: Taking admission in PGDIE in NITIE, Mumbai through GATE or join a PSU and do an executive MBA from a good institute after about 7 years?

PG

PGDIM from NITIE (2020)

A friend of mine worked with a PSU for some time and then appeared for the GATE exam and joined NITIE PGDIE. Leaving the PSU and choosing something else is a personal decision. It depends on your perspective.

In your case, joining after 7 years seems like a long-term plan. You can end up not joining any course after 7 years. So, make sure why you want to join a course after seven years, is it for the degree or salary hike.

If you are going for it for the degree then it can be done by joining any institute. There’s no need to join NITIE specifically. If you are doing it for the salary hike then too, you can join any institute. There is no differentiation based on which institute you are from, in PSUs. All the students having a Master’s degree are treated equally. Then there are options for joining private institutions such as NITIE which is a good option too.

What are the disadvantages of joining PGDIE at NITIE as a fresher?

BS
Bhagyashree Sureka Posted On : August 20th, 2021
Completed PGDIE from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2020)

A friend of mine joined NITIE with a one-year job experience but he was not a fresher. Some of the drawbacks are as follows:

  • In the placement process, many companies show a preference for students who have prior job experience. It is seen most with consulting companies.
  • There are some companies that will hire freshers. You will not lose chances of getting placed.
  • A student who has prior job experience will be able to understand the topics related to the possible real-life scenario which is more or less industry-based. They will be able to relate to the scenarios better than someone who does not have prior work experience. Experience always gives an upper hand.

Lastly, the LRP or laterals, the people with a work experience of higher than 20 months will be allowed to sit in the final placements twice. Candidates belonging to both LRP and CRP will get this opportunity and CRP if they are not placed in LRP. This option will not be available for the CRP candidates.

Is PGDIE from NITIE equivalent to M.Tech as per any HRD Ministry amendment?

SP
Shruti Pathan Posted On : August 13th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Industrial Engineering

NITIE Mumbai and several IIMs provide Post Graduate Diploma and it is considered equivalent to professional degrees in India, including MBA, as is given out by universities.

IITs are deemed universities themselves, which neither IIM nor NITIE are. This means that the degrees offered by them have the official banner of M.Tech. In that case, if you are planning to go for higher education, or even for employment purposes abroad, they will ask you for your degree, then you have chances of facing issues.

Whereas, if you pursue a Ph.D., Fellowship, or even employment within India, then there will not be any hassle whatsoever.

Several aspirants consider NITIE Mumbai the only institutional hub of pursuing an MBA via GATE. This gives NITIE Mumbai an uneven platform, in contrast to numerous other institutes that only offer an M.Tech. In a nutshell, the course of PGDIE is considered to be very closely similar to the PGDIM courses essentially offered by NITIEs via CAT.

PGDIE from NITIE (2019)

For converting to a PGDIE course at NITIE, you definitely need to have a good profile. The admission procedure at NITIE is quite similar to that of IIMs. The weightage given to various parameters is as follows.

  • 10th - 5%
  • 12th - 5%
  • Graduation - 10%
  • GATE Score - 35%
  • GD - 15%
  • PI - 30%

Generally, you should be safe with a GATE rank >700. NITIE has released the GATE cutoff for 2021, which is as follows.

Category  GATE Cutoff
General  609
OBC 473
SC 345
ST 317
Physically disabled  473

Apart from this your performance in GD and interview will also be a determining factor. If you have work experience of more than 20 months, it can make your profile stand out.

Can I survive in the NITIE (PGDIE) as a fresher without any knowledge about industrial engineering?

SR
Swarupa Roy Posted On : August 11th, 2021
PGDIE Operations Research & Supply Chain Management, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2018)

Yes, you can make it through NITIE as a fresher without any knowledge regarding Industrial Engineering. It isn’t rocket science. A huge chunk of the PGDIE batch is freshers.

Here, technical knowledge takes a back seat. To do well in B-Schools, you have to be street-smart. You will be expected to apply common sense to tackle real-world problems.

Now once in a while, you may encounter a few subjects that have certain topics that may appear a little unfamiliar, however, attending classes and skimming through notes/ textbooks once or twice should familiarize you with the underlying concepts. The course is designed that way. You can also consult your professors and your peers to clear any doubts that you have.

You will definitely leave NITIE with some technical knowledge. From the first day, you will learn IE.
