Would you rather take the lowest ranked/semi pvt medical college somewhere in India or take a drop and get AIIMS/MAMC Delhi? Why?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : October 5th, 2023

The question is quite subjective and depends on your performance whilemoroaring for the entrance exams and your expectations from it. In my opinion, joining the lowest ranked medical college is not a wise decision considering the efforts you have already invested and are willing to do so more. Had I been in your place, I would have taken a back without any second thoughts

However, if your goal was just to grab a seat and the brand value of the institute does not matter, then you can join even a low ranked college without much thought.

Lastly, here is a piece of advice for those taking a drop year. Don’t target only AIIMS and MAMS, rather keep your option wide. Trust me India has many other reputed medical colleges too. Limiting your options will actually limit your opportunities too!

How is your experience at BITS Pilani? What did you get? What did you expect?

AM
Aditi Mukharjee Posted On : July 3rd, 2023
studied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

My sister's experience at BITS Pilani was nothing short of magic as she recounts the best hearts of her life there. Like any other student, she had many expectations from her dream college. She yearned for the overall development people talked about at BITS Pilani. She had a list of expectations from making new friends to inculcating skills like independence, personal responsibility, and self-discipline. The institute lived up to its name and all her expectations were fulfilled beyond imagination.

She met the best people who were her support system throughout the 4 years. The campus was huge and peaceful with its natural beauty. Every interest and skill could be cultivated in well-established clubs and departments.

The classes were quite interesting and motivated her to be attentive and regular despite the No attendance rule. This instilled in her a sense of responsibility. Organizing the Oasis was another fun-filled experience and the frequent trips to Khetri, Pahadi, Jaisalmer, and Dharamshala, were out-of-the-world experiences. She got to connect herself to nature and adopt gratitude.

The 4 years changed her personality as a whole for the better and today she gives credit to BITS Pilani for her overall development and successful career.

Will one get internal KT if he gets less marks for viva in Mumbai University engineering?

If you score less than 10 marks in the viva, then there is a possibility of getting internal KT. But in most cases, the students can easily score marks above 10. Try to answer at least one question in the viva. Otherwise, there is a chance to get internal KT.

Is it good to prepare for the GATE and the IES simultaneously?

SR
Swarupa Roy Posted On : January 14th, 2021
BTech Mechanical Engineering IIT BHU (2018)

If you are preparing for IES then you can also simultaneously prepare for GATE as well with just a little extra effort. The syllabus of IES is quite vast as compared to the GATE syllabus. If your primary goal is to crack IES, concentrate more on the IES and study for GATE parallelly. If you are more interested in GATE, you need to make some extra effort.

However, if you are equally interested in both you can follow the strategy given below for preparation.

IES Preparation:

  • Read class notes and solve the workbook regularly.
  • Make short notes for each subject containing formulas, facts, and the new concepts you learned while reading.
  • Solve previous year’s questions for IES and GATE. Note down the important questions you come across. During revision, go through the short notes you made and the questions too.
  • Give online and offline mock tests regularly.

GATE Preparation:

If you follow a smart study plan you can complete the GATE preparation in just one and a half months. The syllabus for GATE is just like a subset of the IES syllabus. Both of them have several topics in common.

You can follow this strategy to crack the exam:

  • One month before GATE, thoroughly read all the class notes.
  • Solve previous year’s question paper as much as possible.
  • Take as many mock tests as you can.
  • 10-12 days before the exam, revise the short notes daily.

You can prepare for IES for the whole year and do the major chunk of preparation for GATE in the last 1-2 months. One of my friends followed this pattern for his preparation and was successful. But you don’t have to follow this plan blindly, you can make up your own strategy too.

What motivated you to choose the IIIT Bangalore and UpGrad's software development (Fullstack) program?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : October 10th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

The full stack web development course offered by IIIT Bangalore in partnership with Upgrad has several benefits. It is an 11-month long program, but it is worth your time and money.

Before making my decision, I had a call with an UpGrad personnel and someone from IIITB. They described to me in detail how the curriculum was divided. I am mentioning the most important topics to give you a basic idea-

  1. Foundations of JAVA, Data Structures and Algorithms
  2. Backend (MVC, Spring and RESTful API’s)
  3. Frontend ( HTML, CSS, JS and REACT.JS)

Through this course, you’ll become eligible to work as a Backend Developer, a Frontend Developer, or a Full Stack Developer. All these roles are in high demand at present.

You’ll get hands-on training and multiple assessments to enhance your understanding of the topics. Other than that, you’ll be offered good mentorship and placement services.

These are the highlights of this program which motivate me to invest my time and money into it. According to me, it is a good course and you can definitely consider it.

Can anyone tell about the Engineering Design branch at IIT-Madras?

TB
Tushar Banerjee Posted On : March 31st, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

The engineering design department at IIT Madras is the newest department on campus. If you're interested in pursuing design-oriented courses closely related to mechanical engineering, this department is worth considering. The dual degree program in Engineering design has a good scope for campus placements, which are comparable to placements in the mechanical engineering department.

Although there are not many seats available for undergraduates, it's surprising to note that the department closes at lower ranks in JEE than other departments such as Civil engineering and Chemical engineering. The engineering design department also offers better core job packages than the aforementioned departments.

One of the advantages of being a new department is that the engineering design department boasts great infrastructure and classrooms, which are well-maintained compared to other older buildings on campus.

So if you're looking for a new and exciting department with promising career prospects, the engineering design department at IIT Madras might be the perfect fit for you

Is branch change possible at MANIT - Bhopal?

SB
Shivani Bansal Posted On : November 24th, 2023
Studied at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal

I would like to add on to the previous answer and mention a few important points regarding branch change at MANIT Bhopal-

  1. The HS and OS quota are maintained during branch change.
  2. The Open category seats can be claimed by SC/ST/OBC students with better scores, but not vice versa.
  3. Only 10% students from the original strength can opt for transfer from their branch.
  4. The number of vacant seats has reduced over the years, making branch change more and more difficult.
  5. I would advise you to choose your branch wisely from the beginning itself. It is highly probable that you end up with the same branch for four years.

Try to make the most of your stay at MANIT, and choose your field of study wisely.

How can NIT Trichy become a top 3 technical institute in India by 2025?

GC
Gautam Chowdhury Posted On : July 18th, 2023
studied at National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India

Although many are here pointing out the flaws in NIT Trichy that might make it impossible to become a top 3 technical institute in India, people fail to understand that an institution of national importance is expected to address these flaws at a minimum. NIT Trichy is an educational institute and not a company that would focus on making its customers happy.

However, if I were to point out the major reason behind its bleak chances of becoming the top 3, then it would be a lack of effective leadership. We aren’t sure if the fact that NIT Trichy would have passionate leaders in the future especially because the recruitment process is not transparent and lacks alumni involvement. Additionally, the directors and HODs have an absence of vision, leadership personality, and biases.

So, in order to emerge as a top engineering college, NIT Trichy needs to adopt an academic niche for itself, both in teaching and research. It should choose at least 3, 4, or 5 academic niches that make it stand out among other institutes.  Another way to become the top is to eliminate the rest of the flab.

Ultimately, adopting a niche, carrying out it well, and letting every director follow it is the key. Only then will NIT Trichy be among the top 3 engineering colleges.
