Should I quit my 7 LPA job at Oracle for an M. Tech from IIT Hyderabad?

PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : May 15th, 2023

Since you are considering quitting your current job, I assume you are not very satisfied with it and want to explore more job opportunities with an MTech from IIT Hyderabad in mind. You either are looking for a better profile or a better package. Either way, you will get excellent opportunities after doing an MTech in CS from IIT Hyderabad.

Let’s consider both, staying at the current job and going to IIT Hyderabad for Masters. In the first case, you need to take into consideration the national CTC that you will have after two years at your current workplace. Even with an average 15%-30% hike, your CTC will be 9-12 LPA.

If you go for a Master's (CS) from IIT Hyderabad instead, you will have a plethora of companies visiting the campus for placements. The perks of joining MTech from IIT Hyderabad are

  • A large number of top companies including some software giants will be offering job profiles during placements.
  • The average CTC is way above 9-10 LPA.
  • Faculty of the CS department of IIT Hyderabad is very friendly and approachable as most professors are considerably young and zealous.
  • The curriculum is well structured and ensures maximum interaction with industry experts
  • IIT Hyderabad's infrastructure and other lab facilities are top-notch.
  • The smaller batch enables better interaction with your research guide and better attention to each and every student.

All in all, joining MTech CS from IIT Hyderabad offers excellent opportunities both in terms of research and placements. So it’s better to leave your job and go for a Master's from IIT Hyderabad.

Which is better, IIT Hyderabad mechanical or NIT Trichy CS?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : May 16th, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

Whether IIT Hyderabad Mechanical or NIT Tricy CS is ‘better’ depends on multiple factors such as your inclinations and career prospects. In short, if you are passionate about Mechanical Engineering then IIT Hyderabad is the best option. The placement opportunities will be average but the scope of higher studies ad research is great here. On the other hand, if you are inclined towards CS, NIT Trichy is the destination for you.

Apart from the branch, there are various other factors like the kind of campus life you want and your interest in getting placed. If you are looking for a glamorous campus life, NIT Trichy will serve you better. NIT Trichy is known for its rich extracurricular culture and has a lot of well-established student clubs. It also has excellent infrastructure and a huge campus with enough space for all of them. Those interested in programming, robotics, etc can pursue their passion as there are many clubs for the same. Here. your branch rarely matters as you will be involved in similar activities as everyone.

There are some students who are driven by the monetary return they will be getting and getting placed is their ultimate goal. In that case, it is important to know that placements in mechanical will not be on par with CSE. NIT Trichy placements are excellent and there are almost 100% placements. So placements wise too, NIT Trichy is better than IIT Hyderabad.

Location-wise, IIT Hyderabad has a slight advantage over NIT Trichy. So both colleges have their own strengths and weaknesses and your personal preference should be the ultimate driving factor.

In terms of both campus life and placements, I will rank NITT > IIT H irrespective of all other factors.

Should I go for IIT Hyderabad chemical engineering or RGIPT petroleum in terms of placements?

SP
Sushil Panda Posted On : May 16th, 2023

I find it very illogical when people try to compare and evaluate an institute's worth solely on the basis of placements. There are many other crucial factors that affect your career prospects some of which have been discussed below

  • Infrastructure: The campus and infrastructure of IIT Hyderabad are much better than RGIPT, except that RGIPT has better accommodation facilities than IIT Hyderabad.
  • Faculty: Both colleges have equally qualified and experienced faculty pools
  • Alumni network: Undoubtedly, IIT Hyderabad fares better in this aspect than RGIPT
  • Extracurricular activities: IIT Hyderabad again is a winner here
  • Peer group: IIT Hyderabad has better and bigger peer groups. RGIPT has smaller peer groups and thus faces a slight disadvantage in this aspect.
  • Fees structure: RGIPT does not have a fee waiver policy for General and OBC candidates while in IIT you can be eligible for a fee waiver.
  • Placement: Placements-wise, RGIPT Petroleum gives an edge to IIT Hyderabad. This is because Petroleum engineers are highly paid globally. The majority of the placements are in core sector jobs, and thus have better job opportunities than a chemical engineer. Chemical Engineers rarely get placed in core sectors and end up with non-core jobs. Basically, IIT Hyderabad has better noncore opportunities while RGIPT has better core job opportunities.

Overall, IIT Hyderabad is better than RGIPT in many other aspects and is preferable to RGIPT any day.

What is the average package at IIT Hyderabad for engineering science?

SN
Sagar Namdev Posted On : May 15th, 2023

The average package for Engineering Science at IIT Hyderabad cannot be determined as it has been recently launched. The branch is an excellent choice for those who are unaware of their area of interest and inclinations.

The curriculum is well-structured and industry relevant. In the first and second semesters, you will be taught common courses from all the branches. In the 3rd semester, you will be required to complete projects from all branches. Lastly, you will be required to opt for a branch of your interest that you will be studying in the 4th year.

The placements of the branch you have chosen and the actual branch will be the same. For instance, if you opted for CS, you will be eligible to sit with students of the CS branch for placements.

The degree awarded will be BTech in Engineering Science and your chosen branch.

Is IIT BHU better than IIT Hyderabad in civil?

AR
Aditi Roy Posted On : May 16th, 2023
lives in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India

My knowledge is limited to IIT Hyderabad Civil Engineering as my brother hails from the same

  • IIT Hyderabad Civil Engineering started in 2012, and only a few batches have passed out yet.
  • The branch usually records 100% placements
  • Majority of the branch is recruited by core companies like L&T, STRATA, TATA Steel, etc.
  • Students were provided internship offers from top institutes and companies like NCAOR (Antartica), TATA Steel, Univ. of Tokyo, Coal India, Purdue Univ, L&T, Keller, Shapoorji Pallonji, etc.
  • IIT Hyderabad has longstanding ties with international universities like Purdue University, Tokyo University, Ritsumeikan University, State University of New York, etc.
  • The faculty of this department is young and dynamic such that you can approach them easily in case of any issues.
  • You get tremendous practical exposure which won't be possible in the case of IIT BHU.

Considering the fast-paced growth of IIT Hyderabad Civil in the initial stages itself, I will recommend you join it over IIT BHU.

What is that only IIT Hyderabad has but no other IIT does?

AS
Anshika Saxena Posted On : May 16th, 2023

IIT Hyderabad has the best reputation of being highly ranked despite being a second-generation IIT. However, it’s a misconception that IIT Hyderabad has a unique double major system when in reality the double major system is being followed by IIT Bombay or IIT Kanpur way before IIT Hyderabad was even established. Both these IITs follow this system to date. IIT Gandhinagar too follows a system of minor programs and their own version of less credit diverse courses. There are many other IITs that have double majors options apart from these 3. So, no, IIT Hyderabad is not the only IIT with a double major system.

The only thing it’s unique in is its fast-paced development despite being a new IIT.

Is it worth doing an M.Tech in IIT Hyderabad leaving a placement of 7.0 LPA at FTD?

SN
Sabatini Nema Posted On : May 16th, 2023

Since you did not mention your specialization, I will assume you belong either to the CS branch or the EE branch, both of which are equally in demand right now. Today, IIT Hyderabad is considered a highly esteemed engineering institute that has very young and dynamic professors. The unique aspect of the institute is its zeal for learning and exploring new things. The professors teach in such a way you will find the ambiance very friendly and light. Although some might hesitate to leave a 7 LPA job for higher studies, I would recommend the opposite. I can guarantee the institute's worth and credibility in providing you with better job opportunities once you complete your Masters's from here. For a slight idea, the average salary of CS and EE after MTech is around 12-30 LPA, much more than your current salary.

Trust me when I say an MTech in CS or EE from IIT Hyderabad will be much more beneficial in the long run. However, if you are from a Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical background then I would suggest going for an MBA from Top IIMs.

What is the system of minors, honours and double majors in IIT Hyderabad? How does it work?

A
Admin Posted On : May 16th, 2023

My brother is a double major student at IIT Hyderabad and praises this system a lot. Under this system, you can earn an additional degree in your branch of interest. There are 3 options

  • Double Major/Additional Major: This system enables you to have an additional major in a branch other than your main branch. All you need to do is complete a minimum of 24 credits in that branch. It’s important to note that if you get an FR in 3 or more credits, then your major will be automatically dropped.
  • Minor: This too allows an extra degree in another branch of your choice apart from your primary branch. However, in this, you complete 12 credits and earn a minor degree.
  • Honors: Under this, you complete extra 12 credits advance courses in the same branch.

This fractal system enables us to explore other branches and pursue your interest also.
