SG
Sreyashi Ghosh Posted On : March 23rd, 2021
Studied at K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (2019)

It depends on various factors including your current CTC if you want to change your domain of work, and the package you expect from the companies. In terms of package and job profile, companies visiting KJ Somaiya consider two main factors during placement.

  1. Less than two years of work experience: You will be eligible for most of the companies in this case. Some companies do prefer freshers and desire to mould them accordingly. So if you are planning on an MBA inorder to change your niche of work you will most certainly fall under this category.
  2. More than three years of work experience: Particularly experience in the IT field for more than three years will lead you to better packages. You can literally cash in on your previous experiences.

The following table shows the Placement statistics of the institute for 2020:

Categories

K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research

100%

Average CTC

I got selected for the MBA programs at ISB Hyderabad and Cranfield University. Regardless of the cost which should I choose and why?

YM

Works at India Institute

When making a decision between ISB and Cranfield, it is important to consider several factors, such as cost, faculty, industry reputation, alumni network, location, and study method. However, ultimately, the best MBA program for any individual depends on their individual goals and preferences.

To make a decision, it is recommended to compare the two schools across at least four criteria:

  1. Curriculum: Consider whether the program will teach the skills and knowledge you want to acquire and whether it is up-to-date and relevant to your goals.
  2. Primary learning opportunity: Evaluate the quality of the teachers, the methodology used, the research centers, and the quality of the student body.
  3. Infrastructure: Consider the resources available, such as the library, special labs, IT network, and digital content.
  4. Track record: Look at the school's track record in terms of placements, specifically in the industry or field you want to pursue after your MBA.

This may not be the best formula at all times, but it can serve as an example of the things you should keep in mind when deciding on a business school. It can be helpful to create a similar list of your own priorities when making your decision.

Is there a separate shortlist for PGP fabm at IIM Ahmedabad?

AG
Abhijeet Goyal Posted On : June 26th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

Yes, there is a separate shortlist for PGP FABM (Post Graduate Programme in Food and Agribusiness Management) at IIM Ahmedabad. The course primarily prefers students from agriculture, food, and allied courses. However, if a student is from a diverse background and has opted for the course while filling out the CAT form, they may also get shortlisted. There is no surety that all backgrounds will get shortlisted. For instance, it's rare to find a lawyer getting shortlisted for FABM.

Which course among PGP at IIM Indore and PGP-ABM at IIM Lucknow should one choose if he/she has an interest in Marketing and Operations?

AD
Amit Datta Posted On : January 9th, 2023
PGP from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2021)

The simple answer is that the choice of the course depends more or your overall profile than the course itself. Irresponsible of your specialization your chances at placements will be low if your resume is below average. Moreover, institutes like IIM Indore and IIM Lucknow offer joint placements for both programs.

Students can apply to any company irrespective of their specialization. Yet there are many who are able to get into their dream companies while some failed to get a call from a reputed firm. This is because the PGP program just added value to your resume and if that is already poor then even PGP cannot guarantee you a high-paying job.

So if you already have a good resume all you need to do is improve your resume in marketing and operations. This can be done through extra-curricular activities and B-school competitions. For this the PGP-ABM program is perfect.

But if you have a below-average resume, then go for PGP. Because then extracurricular activities alone will not improve your resume. You need class projects and good academic scores to upgrade it. Unlike PGP-ABM, you won’t miss out on basic electives related to marketing/ops/finance.

So nothing is certain about an MBA program. One needs to know what he will be doing after acquiring knowledge to decide which course to take. I will personally suggest you go for IIM Lucknow PGP-ABM if you just want to improve your resume.

Should I attend NMIMS Mumbai or SPJIMR for an MBA in finance?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : June 4th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

NMIMS Mumbai and SPJIMR are prestigious Indian business institutions with excellent finance MBA programs. We can consider these:

  • Reputation and Rankings: SPJIMR frequently outranks NMIMS in national and international MBA rankings.
  • Curriculum and staff: Both schools feature rigorous MBA programs with a finance focus and highly competent staff. SPJIMR's experiential learning comprises case studies, simulations, and industrial projects.
  • Location: NMIMS is in Mumbai, India's financial center, which offers many finance internships and positions. SPJIMR is in a quieter Mumbai area.
  • Alumni Network: Many successful finance professionals are alumni of both schools. SPJIMR alumni are more close-knit and supportive.

Both B-schools are good but the SPJIMR brand stands much above NMIMS. Placements are also good in SPJIMR and a small batch size is a big advantage. Projects are also good, so SPJIMR should be preferred.

What are the best colleges for PGDM in international business?

SR
Shefali Rawat Posted On : May 7th, 2021
PGDM from Institute of Management and Technology, Hyderabad (2018)

Due to the rapid globalization and the constant competition, PGDM in International Business has grown more popular among students day by day. Though not every college in India offers International Business as a specialization or even proper placements after the completion of the course. But there are some colleges that have an excellent record in International Business. The curriculum followed by these colleges is aligned with the global trends.

  1. Jaipuria Institute of Management: They have branches in places like Jaipur, Lucknow, and Noida. It is considered the best private college as the students here learn skills such as finance and strategic management.
  2. Birla Institute of Management Technology: It just comes in the 2nd spot after Jaipuria. Like Jaipuria, their course also maintains global standards. The only drawback is the overall fees which are a bit higher than any other college.
  3. Symbiosis Institute of International Business: Symbiosis is a brand in itself. They offer an equally good course in International Business. But, students here need to be very competitive, as students might receive placements based on their overall performance which sometimes can result in vast differences in salary packages.

These are some best colleges for PGDM in International business. Others include -

  • IIFT: Indian Institute of Foreign Trade also known as IIFT is the best college for PGDM in India. But it is really tough to get admission into it.
  • BIIB Pune: Balaji Institute of International Business, Pune, has decent placement, extensive curriculum, and few good faculties.

Therefore, these are some best colleges in India, from where you can pursue PGDM IB. Also do check every website to get the proper information about the colleges and choose wisely.

Which one should I choose between IIML-ABM and IIM Shillong PGP?

RT
Rima Tandon Posted On : February 24th, 2021
PGP from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2019)

There are almost the same given opportunities in both the institutes during summer, Laterals and Final placements. Well, there are two things you need to focus upon:

A few selected firms would not accept ABM students for the process (read Top 3 Consulting and Investment Banks and a certain Indian FMCG firm).

You will have to do ABM courses in your 2nd year with an option to take 2-3 electives, whereas in PGP you will be provided almost 15 electives.

Some facts regarding both institutes so that you can make better choices out of them.

Categories

IIM Lucknow

IIM Shillong

NIRF ranking

4th

30th

Course Fee

10.5 lakhs/year

8 lakhs/year

Highest salary package

54 lakhs

48 lakhs

If you want to do Marketing or General Management or end up in consultancy, then IIM L ABM is a good course because ABM 2nd year courses are nothing but Marketing, and so you don't miss out on anything compared to a PGP student. But go for IIM L ABM if you want to seek financing or operations.

Do people opt for a PGDIM at NITIE Mumbai even after doing an MTech?

AM
Ahaana Malhotra Posted On : August 11th, 2021
PGDIM Industrial Management, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2018)

If you are asking from a technical point of view, you will not face any issues for doing PGDIM from NITIE once you have completed your M.Tech.

But, in the future, you might be asked during an interview as to why you have pursued a management degree after completing your master’s in a core field. Be prepared to give a convincing answer.

If you are thinking of joining the industry and then doing a management degree makes sense. It would definitely help you scale up your current job prospects. But, if you are pursuing this degree without any industry experience, it might come off as a little haphazard, like you are jumping from one degree to another. This might confuse your recruiter a little if your final goal is to bag placement in a decent company.

You can go ahead but think of a good reason as to why you want to pursue this to ensure that you get placed in your future and don’t face any problems.

What is the scope for MBA from GNDU Amritsar or should I opt for Punjabi University for MBA?

TC
Tithi Chatterjee, Posted On : November 15th, 2021
MCA from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar (2016)

If you are considering MBA, do not choose either GNDU or Punjab University as they both will give you disappointing results. It is better if you prepare well for CAT and GMAT exams and try opting for a top institution like IIMs or NITs.

Studying MBA at GNDU or PU will prove to be a waste of time and money. Placements at both these colleges are bad when it comes to MBA. But if you prefer technical courses like B.Tech the placements become better.

Students have mentioned that studying MBA from GNDU has only fetched a salary package of 2.5 - 3.5 LPA, which is much lower. Therefore, it is suggested you aim for better B-Schools.
