A job is a decision that should be based on the quality of the people you will be working with, which is impossible to determine. Any brand becomes a difficult place to work if your boss or colleagues are not rational and logical in their approach and vice versa. Job is something you can change depending on your desire and aptitude for work.

IIM Bangalore is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and brand. Education always gives wings to ideas, develops risk tolerance, and, most importantly, pushes you toward entrepreneurship. IIM B is a place where you will meet a variety of people who are there only after passing various rounds of selection and filtration and for one purpose, "Redefining themselves" through education, exposure, networking, and, of course, employment opportunities.

Education is a long-term investment that instills faith in you, which gives you hope in difficult times. Women who are educated contribute to a more educated society.

What are the chances of getting into NITIE for an MBA with a decent score in the CAT? My 10th, 12th and undergrads are 85.12, 61.5, and 60%.

You have not specified your category and gender and confirming that bit may be tough. Following are some certain things you should need to know.

  • These parameters are as important as the CAT score for Indian B-schools, if not more.
  • For the worst-case scenario, I will assume you are a GEM (General Engineer Male), and answer according to the historical trends.
  • For PGDIM, by a decent score, you should mean 98.5 percentile with 92+ percentile in every section.
  • But mind you, you will have a hard time getting shortlisted for good companies during summers and final placements owing to your academics and it's the comparison with the rest of the batch.
  • The closing percentile for round 1 in the general category is 90 percentile.
  • For PGDISEM, by a decent score, you should mean 95.5+ percentile with 90+ percentile in every section.
  • Because of lesser competition in PGDISEM, you can have a fair chance of getting shortlisted in good companies for summers and final placements.
  • The closing percentile for round 1 in the general category is 90 percentile.

Apart from the decent scores, you will need to perform exceedingly well in GD and PI to secure admission at NITIE.

How different are the career paths of individuals who pursue their MBA in HR from XIMB/SIBM/SCMHRD as compared to those from XLRI/TISS/MDI?

SK
Sabitha Krutarth Posted On : May 18th, 2023

The answer can be divided into two main parts: Curriculum and Placements.

In terms of Curriculum, TISS is rated as having the best. Colleges whose core degree is not HR will be at a disadvantage when it comes to curriculum.

In terms of Placements, XLRI is ranked as having the best package and profile offerings, followed by a tie between TISS and SCMHRD. The colleges whose core is not HR will not offer as good a package post-MBA as compared to the colleges with core HR competencies.

In terms of packages offered, XLRI can be ranked the highest, followed by SCMHRD and TISS in a tie, and then MDI, SIBM, and XIMB.

If I get an admission in FMS Delhi and I'm doing an MBA in finance, will my past academic records affect my placement at FMS? I got 77% in 10th, 68% in 12th, and 68% at engineering graduation.

You will probably face challenges in getting admission to FMS Delhi due to your academic records. There is a high level of competition, and a percentile score of 99.80 or higher will be needed to receive a call. Consider why you want to pursue finance as a career and examine your mindset and motivations in detail. Your past academic records can also affect placements, which means that your grades in 10th, 12th, and engineering graduation will play a role in your eventual job prospects after completing an MBA in finance at FMS.

I am currently in second year of my engineering and I really wish to do my MBA from IIM Ahmedabad. How can I start now to ensure a good rank in CAT?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : September 27th, 2023

You have to ensure a good rank by preparing yourself for the CAT (Common Admission Test) to secure admission to prestigious institutions like IIM Ahmedabad requires careful planning and dedicated effort. You have to follow a few steps to prepare yourself for the exam while you’re in the second year of engineering:

  • Understanding the CAT test: Familiarise yourself with the CAT test format, which consists of parts on Quantitative Ability (QA), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC). Recognize the deadlines and grading criteria.
  • Time management and exercise: Make smart academic scheduling decisions to provide time for CAT preparation. Set aside a few hours every day or a certain period of time to study for the CAT. Work on time management techniques, take sample examinations and solve CAT question papers from prior years. This will assist you in becoming acquainted with the test structure and help you become more adept at solving problems.
  • Join a Coaching Institute: Consider enrolling in a coaching institute for CAT preparation. They can provide structured study plans, access to study materials, and mock tests. However, self-study is also a viable option for motivated students.
  • Read Regularly: Develop a habit of reading newspapers, magazines, and books to improve your reading comprehension and vocabulary. This will be beneficial for the VARC section.
  • Balance: You must balance both CAT and Engineering at the same time. Graduation should always be your first priority. Complete the engineering tasks, and then move on to CAT practice.

Keep in mind that CAT test achievement needs commitment and a calculated strategy. It's crucial to successfully mix your technical coursework with CAT study. Start early, remain dedicated, and modify your plan as you go along. You may improve your chances of earning a high rank and being admitted to IIM Ahmedabad or other top management colleges by putting out persistent work and thoughtful preparation.

If you are opting to go for Business Analytics, then pursuing it from Chandigarh University will be better.

One of my cousins is a student of Chandigarh University, pursuing Business Analytics, and asserts how great the exposure she has been receiving there. Here is what she has to say about the course.

  • Chandigarh University is at present Asia’s fastest developing University and has been recognized with A+ accreditation by NAAC.
  • CU offers Business Analytics courses in collaboration with IBM.
  • Since it supports industry collaboration programs, you will get to learn about the corporate side along with academics. This way you will get to learn the different things that are important in the industrial world.

  • The faculty of Chandigarh University is extremely supportive.
  • CU offers internship opportunities in several top-tier companies, like HDFC Bank, Biz Info Techno Pvt Ltd, Markets And Markets Research Pvt Ltd, and various others.
  • Chandigarh University often gets visited by top organizations. Some of them typically are amongst top-tier MNCs. According to the recent placement statistics, the highest package offered in the placement drive is INR 35 LPA and the average was around 8 LPA.

What type of profile do freshers in new schools: IIMs, FMS, XLRI, MDI, IIFT, and NMIMS have? Do all of them have 80+/90+ in 10th and 12th?

AS
Abhijit Saha Posted On : May 28th, 2021

I can speak for XLRI since I have many friends at the institute. A score of 80-/90+ is not necessarily the only criteria based on which students are admitted to the institute.

The admission commission looks for a number of activities and accomplishments. These include your performance in sports, music, scholarships leadership positions held previously, college festivals, participation in competitions such as debates and quizzes during your schooling. Your position at the national or state level in sports, if any. Surely the admission process is not limited to these only.

Academics are also considered but that can be said as one of the factors and not the deciding criterion. Even if you do not possess such scores in your 10th or 12th, do not agonize. XLRI will heartily welcome you for proving your worth in other domains.

It is assured that staying at XLRI would render an excellent experience because of the environment they provide. This will help you in gaining all the business intelligence that is required and expected from a future business leader.

Eligibility factor: 3-year Bachelor's degree from a recognized university under any discipline.

Here is what the selection criteria look like:

  1. A valid score in XAT or GMAT
  2. You will be shortlisted based on your score in entrance examinations
  3. Once shortlisted, you will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview session.

The aggregate score of the entrance exam and performance in GD/PI will be the criteria for final admission in XLRI. For 2021, the overall XAT cut off for HRM was 93 for male while for females, it was 90.

Which is the best option to pursue an MBA in finance amongst IMI Delhi IMT Ghaziabad XIMB and SCMHRD? I am hoping to receive admission from these colleges but I am really confused.

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : June 6th, 2023

Out of all these colleges, IMI Delhi seems to be the best option for a person looking to major in finance. IMT Ghaziabad has been known for its marketing for a long time and SCMHRD, as the name suggests, is an amazing institution for HR. XIMB is also a decent option for finance but IMI seems to edge it out due to the following reasons-

  • Intellectual capital: IMI New Delhi is one of the premier B-schools in the country. The faculty of IMI is renowned and they are among one of the best minds in the country.
  • Alumni Base: The institute is 42 years old, so the alumni base is very strong. Some of the top leaders of the industry are graduates from IMI.
  • Batch Strength: A small batch enhances the overall classroom experience. IMI has a decent batch strength. Neither too big nor too small. PGDM: 235 seats, PGDM BFS: 50 seats, PGDM HR: 45 seats
  • Placements: The average package of students at IMI for 2023 was 17.01 Lacs and recruiters for finance included American Express, Bank of America, Barclays, and HSBC among others.
