I got a very low percentile in the CAT exam but still I got a call from IIM Jammu. Is it a good opportunity or a waste of time?

MJ
Mansi Jain Posted On : April 4th, 2024

Getting a call from any IIM is never a waste of time. Once you're invited, don't worry about whether you'll get in or not, just do your best. Focus on preparing for the interview. If you're accepted, look into the fees and the job opportunities (IIM Jammu Highest & Average Package for batch 2023 was recorded at INR 64 LPA and INR 16.50 LPA respectively). If you're happy with what you find, it's a good chance. If not, it's not worth your time.

However, the decision is up to you. IIM Jammu is one of the new IIM but if you do well there, you could land a High-paying Job, possibly over 15-20 LPA, and save a year. On the other hand, if you think you can do even better in the CAT exam next year, aim for the older IIMs.

PS
Pradipta Sen Posted On : January 29th, 2021
IIT Kanpur, M.Sc. Statistics 2018

Discussed below are some important tips and guidelines which you can refer to for your ease in preparation. These tips will help you cover the whole syllabus effectively without wasting too much time. A proper study timetable will do the trick for you but proper time management is a must to cover all the required topics.

Mentioned below are some important tips and guidelines for your reference.

Focus only on the Main syllabus - The whole syllabus of IIT JAM Mathematical statistics is neither too short and nor too long, you can easily cover it within the set time period. But it is more important that you cover only the required syllabus and not all the extra syllabus suggested in different books. Focusing on the extra syllabus can waste your time. So it is suggested that you need to stick to the main syllabus only and cover all the topics given in the same.

Practice & solve maximum past year papers - In order to check your accuracy of solving the questions correctly, solving past year papers is the best thing you can do. The series of last year’s papers are easily available on the market or the internet. So try to get it from any trusted source and solve all of them with efficiency to figure out your weak and strong points which also helps you analyze your ranking and score in IIT-JAM Mathematical statistics.

Important books - Especially for IIT JAM, there are different books referred by different universities for students studying in their respective universities. The books referred by universities are easily available in nearby stores, markets, or libraries which helps students cover the syllabus effectively. So you can also refer to books suggested by your university, the books mentioned below are suggested for Delhi students.

  • The Books which you can refer to for Mathematics includes - Introduction to Matrices by S.C Gupta, Integral Calculus by Shanti Narayan, Differential Calculus by Shanti Narayan, Calculus: Early Transcendentals by James Stewarts
  • The books referred for Statistics - Fundamentals of Mathematical Statistics by S.C Gupta and V.K Kapoor.

Try and complete the syllabus 20 days before your set time period as you need more time to focus on solving last year’s papers as well. Devote more time to solving these papers as it will strengthen your chances of cracking IIT-JAM with the best grades. Do not dedicate much time to preparing lengthy topics as it will reduce your speed. Even you can also flip the question or more on to the next one when any question consumes more time.

B.E. Mechanical Engineering, Savitribai Phule Pune University

According to the Pune University rules, the conversion of SGPA to percentage is done in the following way.

Percentage of marks(%) = CGPA * 8.80

Where, CGPA = \((\sum_{i=0}^{p} C_i G_i) /(\sum_{i=0}^{p} C_i)\)

CGPA = [\(\sum\)Grade points earned * Credits for each course] / Total Credits

Hope this clears your doubts.

Yes, BHU is a good option for an MBA. It maintains a good placement record every year. IMS BHU placement highlights for recent years show a highest CTC of INR 18 LPA. The average package for MBA stays around INR 8.4 LPA. Many MNCs like L&T, SBI, IBM visit the campus placement.

One other reason for joining BHU MBA is the highly skilled faculties. The faculties of the institute are highly revered in the academic circle. Most of the faculty members have over 10 years of experience.

If you are looking for a decent MBA course and want to take home a good job offer at the end of the degree, IMS BHU is a good option.

What rank is required for CS in KJ Somaiya in minority quota?

TK
Tuhina Kulkarni Posted On : August 31st, 2021
B.Tech from K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering (2017)

Computer Science at KJ Somaiya is one of the most in-demand branches. So you will see that the cut-off marks are definitely a bit higher than other branches. There are a few vacancy rounds conducted after CAP rounds to fill the remaining seats. You can expect the cutoff to drop then by a little bit.

The CS minority round placements (CAP rounds) end at the MHCET score of 150 at least. You can expect these to drop to about 135 to 140 later but the overall scenario is almost the same every year.

You can look for the vacancy round forms on the college website and you can keep checking for them from time to time.
