How do you compare ECE in NITK and IIT Bhubaneswar?

VS
Vineet Sharma Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech Information Technology, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal

The IIT Bhubaneswar is among the newly opened IITs in India. The institute was established in the year 2008 and the ECE branch was started in the year 2016. The first batch of ECE graduated in 2020. Whereas NITK is among the oldest NITs of India. The institute was established in the year 1960 and ECE started in the year 1979. So, naturally, NITK has a stronger base in terms of research & academics, clubs, society, and other activities.

In IIT Bhubaneswar, companies like Samsung, Goldman Sachs, Jio, Honeywell, Tesco, Adobe, and TCS participated in placements of 2020. 38 students got placed out of 39 students who registered from the ECE branch with an average of 15.8 LPA in the year 2019-20.

In placement statistics of ECE at NITK is quite good too. In the batch of 2018 – 19, a total of 97% of students were placed with an average package of 14.15 lakhs per annum. The highest package offered in NITK was around 39 Lakhs per annum.

ECE department of IIT Bhubaneswar focuses on theory and research work equally. Both institutes have well-equipped laboratories such as Digital Signal Processing & Embedded Systems Lab, VLSI Lab, Signals & Systems Lab, Wireless Sensor Networks Lab, Radiating Systems Lab, and Communications Systems Lab. Since NITK is older than IIT Bhubaneswar, the faculty of NITK has more experience than IIT Bhubaneswar.

What is the fee structure of Bhubaneswar IIT?

SB
Siddhartha Banerjee Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Civil Engineering from NIT Jamshedpur (2020)

IIT BBS offers various courses, including B.Tech, M.Tech, Ph.D., M.Sc, and Dual degree. So depending on course and semester, the tuition fee varies, but the hostel and mess fee is nearly the same for all the students. Also, IITs charge the tuition fee of Rs.6 lakhs per annum to students with different nationalities. Apart from all these, the students with backward categories and with poor economic conditions get fee concession or remission on submitting the necessary documents. Following is the total fee required for each of the courses –

1. B.Tech - Rs. 1.98 Lakhs/Year

2. M.Tech - Rs. 2.31 Lakhs/Year

3. Ph.D. - Rs. 36,091/Year

4. M.Sc. - Rs. 56,814/ Year

I got into mechanical in IIT Bhubaneswar in the first allotment. The cutoff for the same at Gandhinagar is 3500 and my rank is 3880. Will I get it?

Studied at Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (2021)

There are high possibilities that you will get it. There are three rounds of selection in IIT Gandhinagar. If your rank is 3500 and the first round cut-off is 3880 then there are high chances of getting selected by the end of the second round.

Looking at the cut off the trend of the last few years, then it is quite clear IIT Gandhinagar released quite decent ranks throughout. In 2019, the cut off for the mechanical department was 4476 whereas in 2018 the cut off was 4229. So having a rank of 3880 is not bad and the possibilities of getting selected are quite high.

For selection, rank is not the only thing considered in IIT Gandhinagar. The scores of the 10th and the 12th standard of the candidate are also considered. In the two-step selection process, the rank is considered first and then the Board’s scores. Then finally, the top percentile candidates on the list will be selected. Although certain advantages are provided to the SC/OBC candidates in terms of ranks, the seats are allotted differently for the general category and the SC/OBC category which do not overlap each other during selection.

IIT Bhubaneswar is the first choice for most of the students when it comes to mechanical. When you will be selected in the first allotment there, IIT Gandhinagar will not be that challenging and by the end of the second or third allotment, you may get selected.

What is the scope of placement of an M.Tech student in metallurgical and materials technology from IIT Bhubaneswar ?

AV
Ashish Vedwal Posted On : August 14th, 2020
M.Tech Mechanical Engineering Design, Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (2018)

M.Tech in metallurgical and materials technology at the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar will introduce you with immense exposure opportunities, good Infrastructure, and well-qualified faculties. However, when it comes to placements for M.Tech students particularly in metallurgical and materials technology, the placements are not satisfactory enough when compared to other IITs. The average placement percentage is around 60% - 65%. Also, you’ll find that the salary packages offered to the students are not as per expectations. The Median salary offered to metallurgical and materials technology M.tech students at IIT Bhubaneswar are around 6 lakhs. Furthermore, if we look at the past placement records, there has been no improvement in the placement package offered to students for this program over the years. Not many companies recruit students from the metallurgical and materials technology field. Few companies visiting the campus are TATA Consulting Engineering Ltd., Hero Motocorp Ltd., Cognizant Technology Solutions, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., and Infosys Ltd. You’ll be able to back up an average placement in these companies if you are good in your studies, but still, you cannot have very high expectations as there is no 100% placement, and students even struggle to get jobs involving core work related to their field.

Which is better in the case of CSE branch, IIT Bhubaneswar or NITK?

A
Admin Posted On : June 26th, 2024

Both IIT Bhubaneswar and NITK are reputed academic institutions in India. IIT Bhubaneswar is well known for having stronger brand recognition as compared to NITK. But the choice depends on your academic preference, career choice, and personal preference.

  • However, according to me opting for the CSE branch from IIT Bhubaneswar is a better choice as it offers rigorous academic programs, highly qualified faculties, and excellent research facilities.
  • IIT Bhubaneswar offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs for the CSE branch.
  • IIT Bhubaneswar offers excellent placement for the CSE branch with 100% of students being placed in the placement drive, with the highest package being INR 55.75 LPA, the median package being INR 20.31 LPA, and the average being 20.18 LPA.
