Department of Textile and Fibre Engineering was established on 1st January 2018 for developing and undertaking research on textiles for specific end uses. However, textile engineering is a relatively new and least opted branch.

When compared to other branches, it has the least average placement package. A sum of placement statistics of textile can be inferred from the table below

Studied Electrical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

The highest, lowest, and average packages of Textile Engineering at IIT Delhi are INR 1.5 CPA, INR 6 LPA, and INR 13 LPA, respectively. Mostly non-core companies recruit students from Textile. Very few core companies from Textile Engineering industry take part in IIT Delhi placements. The placement rate for the branch is around 90-93%.

If looked at the reality, many students from Textile remain jobless. Job opportunities increase after having a good work experience. The increase in the work package increases depending on the discipline of specialization and work experience.

You should appear for campus placement drive and interviews. There are some of the very reputed companies that visit the campus of IIT Delhi for the recruitment of students from the Textile department. Do not worry about the initial packages offered.

As in the initial 2 years of work, you may get dissatisfaction upon some facts such as Non-IITian colleagues working in the same company and drawing the same salary package. But things will start to change for good after the applicant will get 2-3 years of work experience.

Besides, the applicant can also try for an MBA. It will surely help in building up in the field. Engineering curriculum in India is very old and therefore Engineering in textile has not produced any skilled employment opportunity till now. Therefore, not many engineering colleges in India offer programmes in Textile.
