IIT Delhi Placements 2023: Highest Package: INR 4 CPA , Average Package and Top Recruiters

Mechanical Engineering is one of the most coveted branches of IIT Delhi and rightly so. The Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Delhi, is ranked 64th in the world QS Rankings 2022. Being one of the oldest fields, Mechanical Engineering is considered an eternal core engineering branch by professionals

Faculty: 

• The major credit for the department’s success goes to its extremely learned and experienced professors
• The professors have huge achievements both in academics and research 
• There even was a gold medalist from IIT Bombay

Campus life:

Placements:

There are more than enough core jobs available despite the IT era with great packages offered to its students 

• Top Recruiters that have ties with the Institute for core mechanical placements include ITC, HUL, Jaguar-Land Rover, Bajaj, and Trident 
• The placement percentage is around 80-85% with the highest package reaching 80 LPA CTC sometimes.
• Non-core jobs are offered in the following sectors: Consult, Finance, Software Development, Web and App Development, Machine Learning, Technical and Data Analysis 
• The top MAANG companies, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Chase, Optiver, Bain and Co., and Accenture, offer best profiles for coding and Consulting enthusiasts 

Trust me you will leave with no regrets if you choose this branch. You will have been placed with a decent package and have a plethora of opportunities up your sleeve.

I am the right person who can answer this question because my brother recently completed his BTech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi. He revealed the actual side of the placements in Electrical, the side that no media covers and is the dark reality.

Indeed there are packages as high as INR 70 LPA, but these opportunities are outside India in countries like Singapore, South Korea, the US or the UK. Other core jobs offered to Electrical students are limited to India and are very few with average packages.

The only perk of being a student of this branch is that it is a general branch covering diverse sectors and you are open to sitting for placements in all sectors be it Finance, Consultancy, Core, Coding, or Data Science. Electrical Engineering is a generalized and vast branch. However, the packages for these are mediocre with the highest around 25 LPA (CTC). The in-hand salary is much lower.

The companies offering the highest packages in India include 

• Samsung
• Goldman Sachs
• Tower Research Capital
• Quadeye

Other companies offer average packages in the range of 15-16 LPA only.

It is certainly possible for someone to earn a salary of 60 lacs or more after graduating from IIT Delhi but these job opportunities are usually stationed abroad. Some of the top companies in the country, such as Google, Microsoft, and Amazon, are known to offer high salaries to top talent from lITs around INR 1.2 crore. One will have to settle abroad to avail of such high packages.

If you are adamant about staying in India, you can target companies like 

• Goldman Sachs
• Tower Research
• World Quant

The highest package you can expect from these companies is around INR 45 LPA. However, it is important to note that the specific salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, such as the individual's qualifications, experience, and the specific job or company they are applying to.

 B.Tech in Electrical Engineering is a highly sought-after course, with many top institutions such as IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, and others offering this program. Graduates of this program have many exciting job opportunities available to them, with salaries ranging from INR 3.6 lakhs per annum to INR 6.6 lakhs per annum on average. However, some exceptional students may even receive on-campus placements with a salary package of up to INR 23.06 lakhs per annum.

Some of the top recruiters for Electrical Engineering graduates include ZENITH Constructions Tata Motors, TRF ltd., NSPCL, Bhushan Steels, Durgapur steel plant, GAIL, SAIL, and BHEL, among others. Additionally, highly trained electrical engineers have the opportunity to design electrical motors, aircraft, automobiles, spacecraft, computer chips, and more.

Here are some of the top job profiles in the Electrical Engineering field, along with their highest salaries:

• Power Electronics Engineer: INR 26.6 lakhs per annum
• Electrical Design Engineer: INR 25.5 lakhs per annum
• Control System Engineer: INR 23.5 lakhs per annum
• Instrumentation Engineer: INR 22.5 lakhs per annum
• Electrical Project Engineer: INR 21.5 lakhs per annum

Overall, B.Tech in Electrical Engineering offers many exciting opportunities for graduates, and the potential for high salaries makes it a popular choice among engineering students.

I would rather recommend you go for Uber than join Google (India). A few reasons that justify my opinion are

• Uber offers a better pay scale than Google India
• The work culture and nature at Uber are rather stimulating and will always challenge your abilities
• You can move to bigger companies after gaining experience at Uber but the opposite won't be likely possible.
• Employees at Google India are always leaving either for the US or higher studies and the stability of the job is very low.
• The work environment at Uber is demanding, and exhilarating, posing new challenges every day making it a dynamic one

Basically, the work environment at Google is more stable and monotonous without many challenges which are suitable after you attain a certain age and maturity. Till then you are open to challenges that can be sought at dynamic companies like Uber that will help you grow better.

IIT Delhi is a leading Institute offering education in subjects of engineering and has been maintaining a good rank over the past few years. It is ranked second by NIRF, one the most considered ranking bodies. Last year the placement percentage was recorded to be 82% and this year's placements are still going on.

Given the reputation and quality of education it offers, it definitely has a great placement scenario as well. This year, IIT Delhi's highest package was around INR 4 CPA offered by Jane Street. More than 50 students were offered packages around INR 1 CPA. The top recruiting sectors were IT/Software, Finance, Core Engineering, Technology and Analytics .

Some highly talented CS students receive offers worth more than 1 crore from US companies like Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter.

Some key highlights of the placements for Energy Studies at IIT Delhi are

• Top companies that have ties with IIT Delhi for placements are GE Power, Sterling Power, John Deere, ABB India, Deloitte India, Applied Materials, and Renault-Nissan. 
• Most students who had average or above-average academic profiles were able to get a good role
• Most of the students chase placements only and have no interest in acquiring knowledge and skills. So try not to adopt such a mindset and invest maximum efforts to reap benefits.
• Always be ready to work hard and face challenges. You will face tough competition as you will be dealing with geniuses of the country so prepare yourself for the same.
• Be open to multitasking or else you won’t be able to survive long. I know a friend who was a T&P coordinator who would do his joint project during the day and study for his additional course during the night. 
• Make sure you start your project way before others 

I will strongly recommend not joining IIT if your goal is to prepare for GATE or IES as you will be stealing someone else’s seat unnecessarily.

IIT Delhi is one of the elite engineering colleges of India spread across a sprawling campus of 320 acres. Despite being a government institution, it enjoys the status of an Institution of Eminence under which it has the power to decide its academic policy, to conduct its examinations, and award its degrees.

The placement scenario at this top-notch engineering college is second to none. More than 300 national and international recruiters offered 500+ job profiles across various domains. During the first Phase itself, students bagged over 925 job offers. Most students opted for jobs related to their technical core. Around 90% of students have bagged offers in their core areas. More than 20 International offers have been made by leading countries like Japan, the Middle East, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan. 

IIT Delhi's average package 2023 is not released as IIT Delhi placements 2023 are ongoing. However, based on past data, a considerable hike in the average package offered was observed over the past three years during IIT Delhi UG 5-year. These variations have been tabulated below

There are no specific placements for VLSI, Communication, or Signal Processing and companies offer job profiles generally under the Electrical Engineering department. For instance, a company like Intel comes for placements, it will seek MTech and Dual Degree students from the Electrical branch generally and not Communication Engineering specifically.

For getting profiles in the Semiconductor domain, you should be proficient in at least one coding language and must have completed related courses such as Digital IC design, DSP Architecture, Embedded systems, DSP Mapping algorithms, etc.

A huge number of companies offering roles in various profiles visit the campus some major being 

• INTEL
• Qualcomm
• Samsung
• Analog Devices
• AMD
• Micron Semiconductor
• Cisco systems
• Huawei
• Sony Japan

Most of these companies offer packages ranging from 10-42 LPA. Most Electrical Engineering students get placed with packages above 15 LPA with the placement percentage at around 90%.

Most Government, as well as Private companies, prefer BTech graduates to MTech or MS graduates. One needs an MTech degree only if one wants to enter academia or research. The reason they prefer a fresher is that they consider them flexible and thus sponsor them for higher study in their field of requirement.

M.Tech degree is not required to secure a good job and I will recommend you start preparing for GATE instead and target a PSU job. The written tests and interviews during the process of GATE Preparation will increase your chances of selection in the future.
