Assam University offers a full-time regular Ph.D. program of 3 years in 38 different specializations. 

• Specializations include Linguistics, Bengali, Indian Comparative Literature, Hindi, Manipuri, Political Science, History, Sociology, Social Work, Mass Communication, Visual Arts, Philosophy, Education, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Life Science, and Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Business Administration, Ecology and Environmental Science, Agricultural Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics, and Communication Engineering, Earth Science, Library & Information Science, Law, Assamese, Sanskrit, English, Arabic, French, Economics and Commerce.
• Master’s degree with a minimum of 55% marks in the relevant discipline.
• Candidates with a PG degree from Assam University and a valid score in UGC-NET/ CSIR NET/ GATE are also eligible for seeking Ph.D. and MPhil admission

Assam University Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible for PhD admission at Assam University, candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

• Master's degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master's degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a related field.
• Candidates who have cleared a four paper M.Phil. course work with at least 55 % marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade or those who have already completed the course work in M.Phil. with at least an aggregate of 55% marks or its equivalent grade and have completed the M.Phil.
• A student of Assam University, whose M.Phil. The dissertation has been evaluated and the viva voce is pending and may be admitted to the Ph.D. program of the University.
• Candidates holding a Degree regarded equivalent to the M. Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency, shall be eligible.

Note: Relaxation of 5% of marks for those belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/ differently-abled

Assam University Admission Guidelines

• Candidates must apply online through the official university website.
  • Register and fill the personal details and upload a scanned passport size photograph.
  • Pay the online application fee of INR 500 (INR 300 for SC/ ST/ PwD) and click on the “Submit” button.
  • After successful submission of the application form, an acknowledgement will be sent to the candidate’s registered email id.
  • Candidates can apply for a maximum of two courses only and a separate application has to be submitted for each course.
• Candidates must then attend the university entrance exam (CRET)
• The selected candidates will be uploaded on the university website.
