National Museum Institute (NMI) is an autonomous university which was established in January 1989. The university is located at Janpath, New Delhi. The university was given a status of deemed university on April 1989.
NMI offers Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) programme in the following 3 disciplines:
- History of Art – 4 seats
- Museology – 4 seats
- Conservation – 4 seats
Candidates can get admission to the Ph.D course on the basis of written test and interview conducted by Research Advisory Committee of the university. Interested candidates can register themselves to the MA course by submitting the fee amount of Rs. 300/- (which includes registration fee of Rs. 200 + admission fee of Rs. 100). Check NMI Admission
Foreign candidate or NRI’s can register themselves to the above mentioned research courses by submitting the fee of amount $100.
National Museum Institute PhD Eligibility Criteria 2023
History of Art:
- Candidates should possess masters degree in History of Art from this university or equivalent university in History of Art/ History/ Archaeology/Anthropology/ Aesthetics with minimum 55% of marks
- Candidates working in service personnel with Central Government with at least 5 years regular service will also be eligible to apply.
Museology:
- Candidates must possess masters degree in History of Art from this university or equivalent university in Museology/ History/ Ancient Indian History & Archaeology/History of Art with minimum 55% of marks
- Candidates who working in service personnel with Central Government with at least 5 years regular service will also be eligible to apply.
Conservation:
- Candidates should possess masters degree in History of Art from this university or equivalent university in Chemistry/ Physics/ Life Sciences/ Museology/ Architecture with minimum 55% of marks
- Candidates working in service personnel with Central Government with at least 5 years regular service will also be eligible to apply.

Selection of the candidate to the Ph.D programme is done on the basis of written test and interview conducted by Research Advisory Committee.
Note
Scholarship
- University offers 8 merit scholarships of amount Rs. 3000/- per month according to the canddiates performance.
- University also provide 8 merit cum means scholarship of amount Rs. 1000/- per month.
- Candidates must have to maintain 66.4% attendance to avail scholarship.

- Candidates can register themselves to the Ph.D course by submitting the fee amount of Rs. 300/- (which includes registration fee of Rs. 200 + admission fee of Rs. 100).
- Foreign candidate or NRI’s can register themselves to the above mentioned post graduate courses by submitting the fee amount of $100.
- Candidates must submit separate application form for taking admission into more than one subject
- Candidate must submit the fees by cash/crossed local cheque/Drafts in the favor of Bank of Baroda, Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi.

Enclosures
- Attested photocopies of Pass certificate of Class 10th.

Reservation Criteria 2023
- 15% seats are reserved for the SC candidates and 7.5 seats are reserved for the ST category candidates.
- 27% seats are reserved for the OBC category candidates and 3% seats are reserved for the Differently Abled candidates.
