Eligibility Criteria

Aspirants seeking admission to 4 year Full-time B.Tech Program should meet the following criteria as specified by the institute.

Academic Requirement:

Pass in Plus Two Examination of the State of Kerala or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects securing a separate minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.
Candidates belonging to Kerala Scheduled Caste (KSC) and Kerala Scheduled Tribe (KST) communities are eligible for applying, if they have minimum pass marks in the qualifying examination.
SEBC candidates of Kerala State belonging to non-creamy layer category are eligible for 5% relaxation in the minimum required marks for the qualifying examination.

Which is better at CUSAT, IT or EC?

Both the options are good. There is no such difference in the quality of education, either in these two branches, or any other branch in CUSAT.

They make you work hard, focus on every detail, and stress a lot on the practical classes and labs.

As for the faculty, 85% are permanent. As for the quality of faculty, everyone will have a different view. According to my friends at CUSAT, the only difference you will find between the branches is that the EC people toil 3 times harder than the other branches.

According to the overall placement statistics the average and highest CTC offered to the students is 4 LPA and 15 LPA.

You should choose the branch that is better for you. Think about the branch where your interest lies, will you be able to manage the workload efficiently, does the subject interest you, or which branch has the better placements matter. However, I would like to advise you not to be bothered by placements any more.

The placement opportunities are good enough for B.Tech IT students at CUSAT. The main requirement is a good CGPA in all first 6 semesters of the degree, a good coding knowledge, and soft skills like communication.

You can acquire soft skills by participating in extracurricular activities during your degree. Infosys, Oracle, Amazon, Microsoft, TCS Digital, Nissan Digital, Envestnet, Unisys and IBM are some of the companies that recruit IT students from the CUSAT campus.

CUSAT placement is good for the IT branch. Most of the recruiting companies perticiating in the placement drive are from IT sector. As a student of the IT branch, you will be eligible to sit for almost all the visiting IT companies provided you have the required CGPA. In Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) engineering is offered by SOE (Kochi) whereas in CUCEK engineering is offered by (Alappuzha). Having friends studying in both the colleges, I can say that they are equally good.

When it comes to the IT sector CUSAT introduced IT in India and is considered a pioneer for the IT sector.
The IT branch is well facilitated in both CUCEK and SOE and is considered a good course to opt for here.
Both the institutes are well established and have created a name for them.
Faculties in both are well trained with a lot of experience.
Both of them have world-class labs with the latest equipment and technologies to equip students with the latest inventions.
Placements are also good for IT. Mostly they get placed in the southern region of the country like in Bangalore, Hyderabad and etc with good packages.

CUSAT IT has better placement record than Mechanical Engineering. Major software companies such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Oracle, Cognizant, Tata Project, etc. visit the campus placement each year. According to the highlights of CUSAT placements, students receive an average CTC of around INR 4.3 LPA. While the highest CTC offered is around INR 40 LPA.
