NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) IIT Madras' machine learning course is considered to be one of the best online resources for learning machine learning. IIT Madras does not offer B.Tech ECE. Instead, it offers B.Tech in Electrical Engineering. The Electrical Engineering department is one of the oldest at IITM.

IIT Madras offers a quantum science and technology course. This dual degree program was started in 2020 seeing the widespread requirement for skilled professionals who know quantum computing.
