IIT Madras MS admission 2023 is now open for the January 2023 batch. The last date to submit the application form has been extended to November 3, 2022. Eligible candidates can apply online on the official website of the institute. Admissions will be granted on the basis of a written test and a personal interview conducted by the respective department. Dates for the same will be announced soon.

IIT Madras MS Course Highlights

  • Candidates who are in their final semester/ year of their UG/PG degree may also apply for MS admission.
  • The person employed on an IIT Madras project can apply for admission to the MS programme with a minimum project experience of six months with or without a valid GATE score subject to qualifying in the selection procedure (interview / written examination) of the concerned department.

IIT Madras MS Eligibility Criteria & Fees

Applicants must be qualified with the following given below:

M.S. in Engineering

  • Applicants with a graduation degree in Engineering / Technology with a valid GATE score or a postgraduate degree in appropriate Sciences/Management were eligible with an excellent academic record and a valid GATE score acceptable for the current year in the significant areas.
  • Applicants having Associate Membership of the subsequent professional bodies will also be eligible for admission to the M.S. course of their mother discipline provided they have a valid GATE score and have passed both parts A and part B of the Membership examinations with a good academic record.
  • Applicants having qualified in Major Field Test are also entitled to admission to the M.S. program if the concerned department opts for it.
  • IIT B.Tech. students with a CGPA of 8.0 and above, are entitled to apply.

M.S. in Management

  • Graduation degree or equivalent in any professional discipline of at least four years duration or post graduation degree or equivalent in a significant discipline, with a good academic record.
  • An excellent score or pass in:
    • National level postgraduate admission qualifying entrance exam such as GATE/CAT.
    • International level postgraduate admission qualifying entrance exam such as GMAT along with TOEFL / IELTS (only for foreign candidates).
    • At least 3 years of supervisory experience instead of the qualifying test. (This clause is only for Non-HTRA applicants).
  • Applicants having qualified in Major Field Test are also eligible for admission to the M.S. program if the concerned department opts for it.

M.S. in Entrepreneurship:

The least eligibility requirement for admission is graduates with a B.Tech/B.E. or any masters degree.

The accessible admission criteria for Regular HTRA and NON-HTRA admissions are to be retained. For HTRA, the applicant needs to qualify in GATE or to any of the permitted National qualifying exams eligible for the scholarship. At the time of accepting the purpose of admission, CGPA over or equal to 8.0 CGPA for graduates from centrally funded technical institutions (including IITM) is required for waiving the constraint of qualifying in National level examinations. Under the NON-HTRA category, anybody with a B.Tech. or postgraduate degree can apply.

IIT Madras MS Admission Process 

Eligible applicants possessing the least educational qualifications and satisfying supplementary and stiffer criteria laid down by the departments from time to time are called for “test and interview” or “interview” by the Selection Committees of the particular departments. For applicants who have obtained Post Graduation degree 10 years earlier as on the final date approved for receipt of the completed application, a departmental test is conducted. The applications of foreign nationals may be considered not including a personal interview/test.

Based on the academic verification and the performance of the applicants in the interview and/or test, the Departmental Selection Committee recommends to the Chairman, Legislature the names of applicants found appropriate for admission to the M.S. program.

Interview for the chosen applicants

Shortlisted applicants will be called for an interview by the Selection Committees of the particular departments. Suggestion on “interview” representative the date, time & venue will be provided by the respective Departments via email to the shortlisted applicants.

Ques. What is the least residential requirement for IIT Madras MS  External or Part-time Category?

Ans. For the External or Part-time Category, the 1-semester residential requirement is obligatory to do course work. Nevertheless, a person residing within the commutable space from IIT Madras will be acceptable to do course work without the residential requirement with the authorization of their institution subject to pleasing the course requirement.

Ques. Can I apply for IIT Madras MS if I have completed the B.Tech in Mechatronics?

Ans. Applicants having the main subject in the same department can apply for another department. Nevertheless, please check the area for examination in the admission leaflet before applying.

Ques. I have completed my MS in the US, which is equivalent to M.Tech, am I eligible for a PhD?

Ans. For M.S. from the US or UK, if it is a 2 years program then it is the same as M.Tech. Courses having a duration of below 2 years and will not be measured as Post Graduation Degree equivalent for admission.
