From the 7th sem, students become eligible for campus placements. Some of the famous companies which visit our campus include Microsoft, JPMC, etc. The highest package touches around 1.5 crores and the minimum around 7-8 lakhs. At least 1500 offers were made this year during placements Almost all the students sitting for placements get placed. My plan is to go for higher studies after getting the degree.

In IITs you don't select a branch you get it coz of your rank. The same thing happened to me of course. Faculty to student ratio is pretty good here. Faculties are definitely highly qualified and old professors had a traditional method of teaching. In a semester, there are two term exams- mid-term and end-term.

In my family, there is already 4 civil engineer so I influence by them thus I also choose this course. In my batch there are 140 students and maybe around 550 students in civil engineering and the available faculty for them are 30 so the ratio is quite good (i.e. for every 20 students there is one faculty available) Faculties are very knowledgeable and have remarkable qualifications from foreign countries and teaching methods are available both offline and online. Smart techniques are also available like projector, mic, speaker etc. There was 2 exam in each semester and the total semester is 8 so we have to give 16 term exams and there is also summer vacation and winter vacation between them. Difficulties are not much that issue every student starts to study a week before the term exam and got decent marks.

Students write the internship exam in 4th semester and many grab handsome offers in internship in companies like Google ,Microsoft, Goldman sachs, uber ,etc which also offer PPOs .Apart from this , the placement exams are being given in 7 or 8th sem All the major companies that recruit from all over India visit IITBHU , some of whose names already stated. 1201 offers were offered in 2022-23 . Package ranges: Max-1.2 Cr and Avg-23.13 lakhs ~85% students got placed this yr ,and some went into research/higher studies /UPSC etc. I am planning to become a robotics engineer and then after getting placement ready , will like for working for country's defence sector or something like that. But thats far behind. What are the views of IIT-BHU students about Kashi Utkarsh?

Praver KatyalAyush Singhstudied at Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi

Kashi Utkarsh is an initiative of IIT BHU students. Through this initiative, they try to help people living in the slums near Varanashi. Due to poverty and poor hygiene, the kids in the slums have limited scope for development.

Some of the activities of KU are as below.

  • On weekends students travel to the slum areas and teach the kids for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya admission test. They also persuade parents to send their kids to schools. This may sound easy but many parents need a lot of convincing and committed efforts.
  • KU with the help of IIT BHU students helps raise funds to pay the school fees of these kids.
  • KU also raised funds for special emergencies. For instance, a few years back KU helped raise funds for the operation of a girl with a hole in her heart. The operation happened in Bangalore. Few students and Professors took care of the kid through the whole process.

What are the changes that took place in the college after IT-BHU  got converted into IIT BHU?

Dhruv KaushikKaushik MahapatraB.tech CSE from Galgotias University (2020)

IT(BHU) got converted into an IIT in 2012. The institute has seen many changes since then. A few major ones have been listed as below:

  • There is a new administration, which is directly influenced by the MHRD.
  • The processes of recruiting faculty is more thorough and therefore, newly recruited faculty are better qualified as well as equipped for teaching.
  • There is now a proper course structure to be followed, with each course having a more rigid curriculum. The academic calendar is taken more seriously.
  • Exams happen twice - one mid-semester and one end-semester instead of the CT’s and final exams.
  • There is a new 75% attendance rule. Assignments and projects have become a major part of many courses. The concept of relative grading has been introduced.
  • There is a much more functional Training and Placements Cell, along with a new Entrepreneurship Cell. There are also new start-up incubators. Placements have seen an obvious major boost.
  • Many new departments have been added - the latest being Architecture. Also, department fests are taken much more seriously.
  • More and more students are enrolled each year into various departments. This has also resulted in the construction of new hostels and increasing room occupancy of some.
  • A new library has been built and a new student activity center is being constructed.
  • Many new councils and clubs have been introduced.
  • Google Start-up Weekend, FMC Weekend, and IIT(BHU) Modern United Nations are being held every year. Also, TEDx is being conducted whenever possible.
  • The campus now has not only Internet access but also numerous WiFis.
  • A huge marketplace developed nearer to the “IIT side” of the campus.
