Tamil Nadu Fisheries University (TNFU), offers undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral programmes. The university conducts entrance examinations for PG and research programmes whereas for UG courses, students must register themselves by filling the application forms online. The university later publishes merit lists for eligible candidates and notifies students about the counselling round.

Counselling process is conducted prior to the final seat allotment to the candidates. However, those who have qualified ICAR (Ph.D entrance test) are directly called for counselling. The university also has provisions of scholarship for different courses for talented & economically backward students.
The Faculty of Fisheries Sciences and Faculty of Fisheries Engineering offers B.F.Sc. and B.E. courses respectively at the UG level.

Students looking for admission can apply online by visiting the official website of TNFU. Application fee is INR 600 for open category candidates & INR 300 for SC/ST & SCA.
Counselling: For B.F.Sc programme, the results which includes the rank of the candidates will be published on the university website. Final selection to this course is done after counselling only. The notification regarding the same will be issued on the university website & through e-mail.
TNFU enrolls students to its multiple M.F.Sc. programmes through entrance examination. These courses have a duration of 1-4 years. The students will be assigned guides who will be either working in FCRI campus or in the University Campuses / Outstations/ Research centres.
The applicants hailing from Tamil Nadu have a reserved seat percentage of 75% whereas a 25% is for the candidates from other states who have qualified ICAR. There will be a separate merit lists for the Tamil Nadu candidates and those hailing from other states.

Counselling Process: The university calls upon the eligible candidates for counselling, based on the rank that they have secured in the entrance examination. During the counselling process, they have the opportunity to select any of the subject which is available at the moment or choose to register themselves in the waiting lists. Candidate must understand that if they have registered as a waiting list candidate, he/she will not be provided a confirmed seat in any other discipline. Students in the waiting list will only be considered for the second round of counselling.
The Ph.D programmes offered by the university selects and enrolls students on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination. The questions in the entrance examination are of multiple choice where candidate can select the correct answer from the enlisted set of options.

Entrance examination for Ph.D: The university conducts entrance examinations of one hour duration for the admissions to its doctoral programmes. The candidate must appear in the subject that he/she has studied during post graduation. The examination carries MCQs with four listed options to choose the correct answer from. The maximum marks of the examination are 40. The centre of examination is Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi. Those who have qualified Senior Research Fellowship of ICAR do not have to appear the entrance examination.
Counselling: The final process for the selection of Ph.D students is based upon counselling process. Candidate’s performance in the entrance examination is considered for the counselling process. Student must secure an average minimum of more than 50% marks (40% marks for SC/ST) to be eligible for the counselling.
