Reva University, Bangalore, offers Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) courses in multiple disciplines of Engineering, Law, Commerce, Pure and Social Sciences, Languages and Architecture. The count of total PhD courses comes to 20 in the fields mentioned above. The duration of a PhD candidate in Reva can range from 3-6 years based on their course work and research advisor’s guidelines.
- The institute offers PhD in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Commerce, Management, Performing Arts, English, Psychology, Microbiology, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Applications, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Legal Studies, and Architecture.
- To be eligible, a minimum requirement of a master’s degree or an M.Phil. in the relevant subject is expected along with an Entrance test of the university, Reva PET.
- Final students are however, selected on the basis of a final interview.
Reva University Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria
For admission to Ph.D. programmes, an applicant possessing qualifications mentioned below is eligible to apply:
- A minimum qualification of 55% or a ‘B’ grade in masters / M.Phil. in the relevant subject is required. A relaxation of 5% of marks, i.e. from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, is allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC /differently-abled and other categories of candidates.
- Reva PET exams are conducted each year to shortlist candidates and to qualify as a PhD student, a minimum of 50/100 is required on this exam.
- Finally, after passing the test, an interview along with counselling is held to decide the final list of selected candidates.
Reva University Ph.D. Admission Guidelines
Selection Criteria
Reva University conducts its own Reva PET for admissions in a PhD course. This is a 3 hours exam taken to be eligible for admission in Reva University. The kind of PET that is given will differ if a candidate has an M.Phil. degree or has cleared UGC-NET and so on. This test includes both, objective type and descriptive questions.
- Candidates other than those who have qualified UGC-JRF / UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR/JRF/UGC-CSIR-NET / SLET/GATE or passed M Phil Degree or candidates who hold Teacher Fellowship will have 2 sections in the PET of 50 marks each, namely, subject specific questions and research methodology.
- Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF) / UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF) / SLET / GATE or candidates hold Teacher Fellowship will have 100 marks paper on Research Methodology.
- Candidates possessing M. Phil Degree will have a 100 marks paper on subject specific questions.
- A minimum of 50/100 is required to be eligible for a Final Interview. This interview will be marked out of 50. Candidates are required to be prepared with presentations of the research area they are interested in.
How to Apply?
- To register for Reva PET:
- Fill out the application form duly from the official website. This form is usually available from the first week of March each year.
- Pay the application fees of 1000/- via net banking or a DD to the college.
- An application number will be generated upon the submission of the form. Candidates should note down this number for all future notices.
- Download the syllabus from the site for Reva PET and be prepared for give exams.
- Original and Photocopies of documents should be carried by the candidates.
- A list of the selected candidates will be put up on the notice board and the fees of the first year are expected to be paid almost within 15 days after the list is out to secure the seat.

The Course goes on for a minimum of 3 years but can extend to 6 years depending on the course work and the Guide’s recommendations.
The PhD students should have to undergo course work of One Semester of SIX months and follow necessary conditions in the “REVA University Regulations Governing the Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Doctoral (Ph.D.) Degree, 2016”.The course work includes three courses.
