Established in 2008, Indian Maritime University (IMU), Visakhapatnam is a teaching-cum-affiliating university which works under the guidance of the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India with Chennai as headquarters. At present, IMU Vizag offers B.Tech in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at the undergraduate level and M.Tech, MBA at the postgraduate level. B.Tech course is of 4 years duration with an intake capacity of 40 students and M.Tech is of 2 years duration with an intake of 20 seats in each stream. In addition, the institute campus also offers lateral entry in 2nd and 3rd year of B.Tech (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering) with an intake capacity of 5 and 20 seats, respectively.

Indian Maritime University, Visakhapatnam offers B.Tech in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering with an intake of 40 seats. The basic eligibility to apply for this course is the candidates should have passed 10+2 or any equivalent examination with minimum 60% aggregate in PCM subjects and 50% in English subject.
Candidates already shortlisted on the basis of CET scores will be required to register themselves for Online Counseling for the allotment of seats in the concerned program of IMU. Candidates will be required to submit INR 10000 (Non- refundable) to register for the online IMU counselling. Candidates must carry their original documents at the time of counselling for the verification of original mark sheets, certificates etc.

In addition to it, the college also offers direct lateral entry in the 2nd and 3rd year of B.Tech on the basis of marks obtained in the common entrance test. The admissions will be made in the order of merit based on aggregate percentage of marks.
For admission into 2nd year of B.Tech, candidate should have a 4-year Diploma in Shipbuilding Engineering with at least 60% marks overall from Institute of Shipbuilding Technology (ISBT), Goa OR 3-year Diploma in Mechanical / Civil Engineering / Marine Engineering with at least 60% marks overall from any institute approved by AICTE OR 3-year Diploma in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering from the AMET University, Chennai with at least 60% marks overall. Minimum age of the candidate should be 18 years with the upper age limit of 26 years.
For admission to 3rd year of B.Tech, candidates should have completed B.Sc (Ship-building and Repair) with at least 60% marks overall and have completed the degree within the stipulated period of 3 years. The lower and upper age limits for 3rd year lateral entry is 19 and 27 years, respectively.
Indian Maritime University, Visakhapatnam offers Master of Technology (M.Tech) in 2 specializations namely Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering and Dredging and Harbor Engineering. The basic eligibility to apply for M.Tech is the candidate should be an engineering graduate in Mechanical/ Civil/ Marine/ Naval Architecture/ or any equivalent with at least 60% aggregate in marks. For SC/ST candidates, there will be a relaxation of 5% in the eligibility marks. Admission will be done on the basis of online Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by IMU.

IMU also offers MBA in International Transportation and Logistics Management with an intake capacity of 20 students. For admission to MBA, candidates must have passed bachelors degree in any discipline with minimum 50% aggregate in marks. To get admission, students need to appear in Common Entrance Test (CET) which is conducted by the university.
