I have applied to many iims and also got shortlisted from baby iims and iim shillong. Major drawback for me was lack of proper preperation for interview. I finally converted imt ghaziabad. I learned about various mistakes that i made in other interview process and finally converted imt ghaziabad
The other colleges I applied to were, all IIMs, MDI, XLRI, FORE, IMI. I had confirmed admissions from IMT-G, FORE, IMI, IIM-CAP except IIM Udaipur and was waitlisted in MDI. I had to choose between IIM Raipur and IMT Ghaziabad in the end and I ended up choosing IMT because my parents didn’t want to send me too far away, and because I reside in Delhi, staying in Ghaziabad was very convenient. I did her rejected from old IIMs because I couldn’t clear the percentile cut off, got rejected from XLRI-BM programme because I didn’t perform at par in the interview. The admission process of IMT is pretty convenient. We can get in through multiple different exams such as CAT, XAT or GMAT. The course most preferred here is PGDM Marketing and we have great faculty for every course in the college.
I chose IMT as it was a renowned name especially for marketing course. 1.The placements were decent for a college which is not in top 15 colleges of the country. 2. Good Alumni network with college legacy extending to over 40 years. 3. College being placed in the metro city provides good opportunity for industry connect which was a problem with few of the other newer IIM's. Other colleges that I applied to 1. Applied to IIIM's, XLRI, XIMB, Symbiosis colleges and NMIMS. Cat score wasn't good enough to get calls from most of the IIM's. Gave interview for XLRI HR, didn't convert. Converted XIMB but chose IMT over it. Admission process of IMT 1. CAT/XAT/GMAT test. 2. Writing test of 10 minutes where you get a topic on spot and need to write 300 odd words on the same. 3. Personal Interview round.
So I applied for IMT, MDI, IIFT, XIMB, NMIMS, IMI and BITSOM. I wasn't able to convert IIFT and NMIMS because of my percentile (95.1) and NMAT score. For MDI my GDPI went well but I believe my Acads related knowledge was less. So from XIMB, IMI and IMT I chose IMT because its a great college for marketing and also its near to my house. My sister passed out from this college in 2014 and she is doing well in her life which motivated me more to get into this college. My college admission process was firstly getting the required percentile for shortlisting, then an essay writing and PI was done on the date selected. Then the result came out after one and a half months. Cutoff for CAT was above 92 percentile and for XAT it was above 94 percentile.
I got confirmed admissions from Great Lakes, SIBM Bengaluru. I chose IMT G instead of the other two colleges for two primary reasons. The first one was that I wanted to enroll in a 2-year course, and Great Lakes was offering a 1-year course. So, Despite the average package of both colleges being similar, I chose IMT. Secondly, IMT G was closer to my home(Delhi) as compared to SIBM Bengaluru. So I didn't choose SIBM Bengaluru. I did my preparation with my job. So, I had limited time. But I still feel that I wasted a lot of time. If I had utilized my time a little better, I would have gotten into one of the top IIMs. Also, I focused more on quants as compared to DILR and VARC. Though I did score 99.7 in quants, I could not score as high in the other 2 sections.
I had applied to KJ Somaiya, SIIB and IMT Ghaziabad, and got admission offers from all. However I chose IMT because of its reputation as a Mecca for Marketing and after being able to talk some alumni of the institute who passed out earlier. The only college I was technically rejected from was NMIMS as I did not make the cutoff for a GDPI. For IMT Ghaziabad, you could apply via CAT or XAT, I got in via CAT. This was followed by the CTPI Process which was a critical thinking written paragraph based on a relatively prevalent topic followed by a Personal Interview. To my knowledge most people got in via CAT although that is more basis conversations I have had with people and not any empirical data to support the same. The overall admission process was pretty smooth, right from document verification during the CTPI to hostel allocation, we knew what all documents to bring at what time with no last minute revision to the documents required section.
IMT accepts CAT, XAT and GMAT to get in you have to have a 90 percentile above in either CAT or XAT and then you wake it yo the written assessment and personal interview round. I scored decently in XAT and made it to the WAPI round, my experience giving my imt interview was extremely exciting yet overwhelming but after I was done with my interview I had this feeling that I'll make it to this college and that's what ended up happening. I applied to IIMs but I didn't get a call from any of them, and others included GIM, IMI, symbiosis bangalore, TAPMI, KJ Somaiya I wasn't rejected from any of the colleges I applied to I was either wait listed or offered admission. I chose IMT because of the legacy that this institute holds the quality of learning it provides, the networking opportunity it presents and the doors that it will open for me be it networking, placements or short term projects
I applied to almost all the top 20 bschools in the country and got a confirmed admission from baby IIMs, XIMB Bhubaneswar, SIBM and finally IMT Ghaziabad. I chose IMT Ghaziabad because of strong alumni network, its reputation, the facilities available at the campus, its location and its vibrant student life. Yes, I did get rejected from other bschools. One particular instance I remember is from SPJIMR. I underperformed in the group interview stage and couldn't understand what was being exactly the motive behind the interviewers question. In admission process, the candidate needs to meet the eligibility criteria defined by the college. Then the candidates need to undergo an entry test like CAT, XAT, or GMAT. Later on, candidates have to fill an online application form in which his or her personal details along with their educational background are asked. Candidates short-listed are taken for critical thinking test and personal interview. This is the stage where the communication skills and personality get tested. Call is finally taken based on the performance in entrance examinations, academic records, experience relevant to the job at work, and the performance in GD and PI. The shortlisted candidates are contacted to extend to them the admission offer, and subsequently, they must enroll through the whole process and present all their required documents, and pay the fees.
I didn’t score well in CAT so many colleges I couldn’t apply to. But scored well in XAT, got call letters from XLRI and IMT. Didn’t apply to XIBM as I had heard some bad things about the placement committee and the bullying. Heard the same about IMT but I didn’t get into XLRI so IMT was my only option. XLRI I think I didn’t get in because my marks were only 94%ile if I had more I would have a good chance. Also my HR interview was very stressful and I cracked under pressure. BM interview was good but I think me not having studied math since 10th grade played a role in me not getting BM. IMT interview process was very chill. I had a good time, I was relaxed so performed well.
I applied to all baby and new IIMs, IMI Delhi, GIM Goa, Great Lakes, Welingkar Mumbai, SIBM Pune, SCMHRD, Fore Delhi, SIBM Hyderabad, XLRI Jamshedpur, NMIMS Mumbai and Bangalore. I got confirmed admission offer from IIM Kashipur, IMI Delhi, Fore Delhi, Great Lakes, Welingkar Mumbai, SIBM Hyderabad, NMIMS Bangalore I chose IMT Ghaziabad over other colleges for : 1) Brand Name of IMT in Marketing, 2) The vast alumni network of IMT, 3) The Location of IMT (Delhi NCR) Did not pay waitlist fee for GIM Goa, IIM Thrichy, IIM Jammu and few other baby IIMs. Got waitlisted for NMIMS Mumbai. Scored less than 95 percentile in SNAP, hence did not get interview call for SIBM Pune and SCMHRD. Did not meet Quant sectional cutoff of XIMB and XLRI. IMT accepts CAT score, XAT and GMAT scores. The most preferred one is CAT since its most most widely accepted exam score in India for B Schools. Students are called in for Critical Thinking and Interview based on their academic and entrance exam scores. Students then are evaluated based on their CT and PI performance, along with their CV (Extra curriculars, Awards, Honorable mentions, Achievements) I had a pretty chill experience. My Interview and WAT was scheduled in Park Hotel, Chennai. The onboarding process was smooth, we got an opportunity to interact with current students of IMT, who shared with us their college experience. Administration was considerate enough when people missed few documents, or appeared at the venue late.

No, IMT Ghaziabad does not have admission through the management quota. The institute follows a transparent admission process based on merit and performance in entrance exams such as CAT, XAT, and GMAT. All the candidates who meet the eligibility criteria and clear the cut-off score are called for the selection process, which includes a group discussion and a personal interview.
The final selection is based on a composite score that takes into account the candidate's academic background, work experience, entrance test score, and performance in the selection process. The institute values integrity and fairness in its admission process and does not have any provision for management quota seats.
IMT Ghaziabad conducts counseling for admission. You need to appear in CAT/GMAT to be eligible for admission. The minimum cutoff required for admission is as follows.
CAT Cutoff:
Courses |
Cutoff |
PGDM |
90 |
PGDM Marketing |
90 |
PGDM Finance |
90 |
On average, you will need a CAT score of around 85-90% and a GMAT score of around 650 in order to take admission. The selection procedure also comprises of GDPI rank.
If you don’t get admission through counseling, you can go to the institute and talk to the management or the admission cell directly. Never contact any broker or private career counselor for admission. If you have good grades, you can easily get admission at IMT Ghaziabad without any donation.
Before I talk about the worth of private B Schools like IMT/IMI/XIMB, let’s consider their average packages.
B School |
Average Package |
IMT |
INR 17.35 LPA |
IMI Delhi |
INR 17.01 LPA |
XIMB |
INR 20 LPA |
The average package of government colleges like IITs and DSE is slightly less around INR 10.57 LPA. So the point is if you are ready to invest a hefty amount in B Schools, you will not regret the decision as they are game changers. The level of exposure and diversity is almost higher than in Government colleges. IITs, DFS and DSE MBAs have a more theoretical approach than a practical one. However, the figures for private B schools are inflated so do consider the ups and downs.
The final decision is up to you. Try to find what exactly you want from MBA
Make a well-informed decision after proper research.
Everyone has a different definition of worth. In my opinion, IMT Ghaziabad is worth getting admission at under the following circumstances
In fact if right harnessed, IMT Ghaziabad has many excellent opportunities to offer. It’s a well-established institute and among the top B Schools in the country. Established as early as 1980, it has an elaborate alumni network. So if you are true to yourself and your career this B School will help you climb to the top gradually.
The IMT Ghaziabad PGDM Selection Process has been recently updated and aspirants are shortlisted based on their CAT or XAT scores Shortlisted candidates are called for Selection Process which includes
Since Academic diversity, work experience, and Academic Record are parameters you cannot control now, I will discuss just 3 main rounds that is the Critical Thinking, Group Discussion, and the Personal Interview.
Critical Thinking
The IMT Ghaziabad selection process begins with a round of critical thinking wherein the candidate is required to present his views on a debatable topic given.
Parameters: This process evaluates you
How to ace: In order to ace this round, you need to follow the multi-pronged strategy of assertion-reasoning-example-linkage. Firstly assert your viewpoint, reason it out well, support your viewpoint through good examples and then link it with the given topic. To perform the best, you will have to be aware of the recent issues around you and practice writing a lot.
Group Discussion
Group discussion and Personal Interview are the 3 major rounds of the IMT admission process. For this round, you will be divided into small groups. The group is given a problem to solve or a task to perform. The manner in which they have dealt with the issue or completed the task becomes the basis of the judgment of this round.
Parameters: The aspirants are judges on parameters like
How to ace: Try to participate in the group exercise activities and provide unique ideas. Try to demonstrate leadership skills also.
Personal Interview: This is the final and most impactful round of the entire IMT Ghaziabad admission process. You need to ace this round to get shortlisted finally.
Parameters: During the interview, you will be evaluated on the basis of following criteria
How to ace: This round is the most crucial. You should prepare a lot for it beforehand as you will be interviewed on the basis of past academic performance, your work on previous projects, general awareness, and your resume. The best way to enhance your communication skills is to listen to the interviews of eloquent speakers in your field of interest. You should answer their questions confidently even if they ask something you are not aware of.
So in order to convert a call from IMT Ghaziabad, you have to ace these rounds and depend on your luck.
In choosing your B-school, the primary factors that you should consider are, the specialization you want to opt for and the ROI you are expecting. In your case, you want to go for Finance. The list of preferred B Schools you mentioned has similar fees and placements so I will be answering solely based on specialization.
Finance: IMI Delhi is the best choice of all the options when it comes to Finance. A premium quality crowd opts for Finance at IMI Delhi and the main reason is the customized MBA program in Finance. Many companies of the Finance sector visit the campus for placements. Finance students also avail the best opportunities and guidance and have a higher level of security than Marketing students.
However, in case you have more than 2-3 years of work experience, IMI Delhi is not a suitable option. Although you may stand out among your batchmates, the companies visiting the campus are not aware of this and offer roles suitable for less experienced students only. So your work experience may not be credited here.
The general preference order should be: IMI D>XIMB>IMT G
A minimum of 94%ile in CAT will help you convert IMT, Ghaziabad, and TAPMI based on your interview performance.
In TAPMI, the weight of GD/PI is 45% and IMT, Ghaziabad has less weightage on PI at 15%.
Leaving a job with such good pay is a very risky decision and should be considered only if it’s the top B School you are after. These include the top IIMS, XLRI, FMS, SP JAIN, or MDI. Giving up your high-paying job to join IMT Ghaziabad does not make sense. The ROI will not be worth the program considering the two-year opportunity loss of salary and high IMT fees.
Moreover, IMT Ghaziabad placements are quite restricted in the sense that if you are not among the top 100 students in a batch of 600 students, you will end up with an average package only. The companies visiting IMT Ghaziabad offer the MT position usually to freshers and not students with work experience. Considering all this I don’t think leaving your job for an MBA from IMT Ghaziabad is a wise decision.
People from NIT and IITs should definitely get admission to IMI Delhi or IMT Ghaziabad. Unlike the general misconception that people from ivy graduate colleges should go for the top PG colleges also, IMT and IMI are rather good choices. If an Institute helps you to build your career then the brand value hardly matters.
I have seen many people who after graduation from NIT and IITs join IMI and are glad to do so. My brother completed his graduation from DTU Delhi and joined IMI for MBA and claims that he was able to learn so many new things in the first 6 months. One of my friends also joined IMI after completing his Engineering from NIT Uttarakhand.
So what I actually mean is people from NIT and IIT can definitely pursue their MBA from IMI and IMT and won’t regret this decision.
To predict the chances of clearing the IMT Ghaziabad waitlist, we need to compare it with colleges of similar levels. Some of them include SCMHRD, XIMB, IMI, Great lakes, etc. All these B Schools are Grades B.
From this, we can conclude that almost 50% of students withdraw from their admission to the first merit list. Around 50-85 additional candidates can get a seat. However, the second merit list has lower chances of vacant seats.
