Usually about 40-50 students are seated in a class. The total strength of my specialisation is around 350-400. The gender ratio for girls:boys for my batch is 30:70 and it’s the same across all specialisations as well. The class is culturally very diverse with people from different religions, regions, backgrounds. We have students from almost every state starting from Jammu to Tamil Nadu to Assam and Gujarat and even states such as Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradhesh etc. Major population is from northern parts of the country. The peer group is very diverse in terms of the work experience and their previous educational experience. There is a lot peer learning happening in classes especially because we have special marks associated to class participation in every subject. I have mixed view on the fact that students genuinely attend classes for learning. Some students just attend classes to get through the course without a grade loss but the ones who regularly attend and participate in class are the ones truly there to learn.

1. 60-65 students could be seated in a class at max. In our specialization we have 300 students in marketing and the total batch size is around 800 students. 2. For our course the boys to girls ratio is around 3:1 and is same for the entire batch. In our batch the population is a bit skewed towards students primarily from Delhi NCR region. But we have people from the southern part of the country as well as from states like west Bengal, Bihar to name a few. 3. Peer group is great with people from diverse backgrounds adding to different ideas in group activities. Also there is a good mix of freshers as well as work ex people which helps group activities with diversified ideas. Yes peer learning does take place a lot. 4. Yes we do get class participation marks. 5. Yes students do attend the class for learning but for a few subjects I feel they attend solely for attendance purpose especially the ones which they don't like.

In my specialization in particular their are around 200 people pursuing Marketing and the overall gender diversity ratio is approximately 60:40. In an address by our director, he revealed to us that their are students from approximately 25 different states and 4-5 different Union Territories in our batch and the diversity can be seen in class with people coming from Jammu to Chennai and Ahmedabad to Kolkata and even as far as Dispur, Assam. Yes, we do have peer groups in our class and while things are taught to us in class, peer learning only happens outside of it by sitting together in your own time and brainstorming/discussing subject matter and everything and anything. Yes, we do have marks for class participation in class which is good because it does generate conversation and inculcate different opinions but its a very fine line between that and the class becoming a fish market. Whilst I believe some of us do have genuine interest in the subjects being taught, majority do not attend the classes for learning and more so to just ensure they do not suffer a grade loss and are meeting the attendance criterion.

Is It worth to join B schools like IMT/IMI/XIMB whose fees are around 20 lakhs if I have calls from reputed government colleges on par with these?

Kabya Kalbalia
Suntonu BasuProfessor of Finance at Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (2015-present)

Before I talk about the worth of private B Schools like IMT/IMI/XIMB, let’s consider their average packages.

B School

Average Package

IMT

INR 17.35 LPA

IMI Delhi

INR 17.01 LPA

XIMB

INR 20 LPA

The average package of government colleges like IITs and DSE is slightly less around INR 10.57 LPA. So the point is if you are ready to invest a hefty amount in B Schools, you will not regret the decision as they are game changers. The level of exposure and diversity is almost higher than in Government colleges. IITs, DFS and DSE MBAs have a more theoretical approach than a practical one. However, the figures for private B schools are inflated so do consider the ups and downs.

  • IITs are best for operations and manufacturing industries
  • IMT or XIMB is a good option for Marketing
  • DFS or IMI are best suited for Finance
  • XIMB or DSE are best for HR

The final decision is up to you. Try to find what exactly you want from MBA

  • If you are looking for the IIT tag, then IIT
  • If you are after ROI or PhD then DSE or DFS
  • If you want to climb the corporate ladder, XIMB is the best

Make a well-informed decision after proper research.

My son got admission at IMT, Ghaziabad. Is it worth it to take admission? The fee is Rs. 19 lakhs

Vinisha Vasudevan
Vidushi SinglaPGDM from Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad (Graduated 2022)

Everyone has a different definition of worth. In my opinion, IMT Ghaziabad is worth getting admission at under the following circumstances

  • If you are a Marketing enthusiast, IMT Ghaziabad is the best B School out there for you. It’s well known for its specialization in marketing and offers a plethora of opportunities in the same.
  • If you are ready to put extra effort to learn and adopt the techniques of trade
  • If your target packages range from 12-20 LPA
  • If you are not interested in MBB firms or Investment Banking roles
  • If your graduation from college does not include the institutes like top 5 IIT/SRCC/LSR

In fact if right harnessed, IMT Ghaziabad has many excellent opportunities to offer. It’s a well-established institute and among the top B Schools in the country. Established as early as 1980, it has an elaborate alumni network. So if you are true to yourself and your career this B School will help you climb to the top gradually.

What should be preference order of IMT Ghaziabad courses- PGDM, PGDM marketing, PGDM finance, PGDM DCP, PGDM banking, insurance and financial services?

Dhruv ChatterjeePGDM from Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad (Graduated 2022)

IMT Ghaziabad offers a variety of courses that cater to various specializations. These courses have been listed and explained in their order of preference

  • PGDM Marketing/PGDM Full Time (Marketing): This is the most coveted program among IMT students mainly because today its alumni have acquired top positions in big firms. Other major reasons include top-notch faculty, great internship and placement opportunities in terms of role and CTC, IMT’s eligibility, and excellent performances in recognized marketing and strategy B Schools competitions.
  • PGDM Finance/PGDM Full Time (Finance): This one is most suitable for aspirants who are interested in Finance. However, this program offers lesser opportunities than the Marketing program in terms of role and CTC.
  • PGDM Full Time (Operations): This program offers opportunities similar to that of Finance. But the batch size of PGDM Operations is smaller than PGDM Finance, so it may be easier to secure an internship/final placement, but the opportunities come less compared to Finance.
  • PGDM DCP: DCP or the Dual Country Program is for those who are keen to get international exposure. Compared to an MBA from a foreign university, this program is cheaper and yet offers an opportunity to explore a different culture and learn to make decisions in an international context. This is best suitable for those who are in the Marketing domain.
  • PGDM Banking and Financial Services (PGDM-BFS): This program was launched in 2019 and is relatively newer. It targets the core Banking and Finance sector. While the MBA program aims to provide a holistic view of management, this program solely focuses on Banking and Finance.
  • PGDM Full Time (HR): This is the least taken course and offers very less in terms of opportunities.

The courses have been arranged preference-wise so will make it easy for you to choose one.

How good is finance in IMT Ghaziabad? What are the placement opportunities? How is it compared to PGDM general?

Aditya GhoseBcom(H) from University of Lucknow (Graduated 2019)

IMT Ghaziabad is called the Mecca for Marketing. It’s well known for its specialization in Marketing, Sales, and Business Development based roles. I don't think it offers similar opportunities for finance as well. The placements are pretty good but getting internship offers is difficult for someone who is switching careers from IT to Finance.

So if you really want to pursue a career in Finance after your MBA from IMT Ghaziabad, you can try CFA, and FRM and have some past background in Finance

I got a call from IMT Ghaziabad for DCP. Is it good and are there any chances of it getting upgraded? Should I go for GIM?

Abhishek RathiMBA Marketing, Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad (2019)

IMT Ghaziabad DCP program is one of the best and most coveted among its students. My brother is currently a first-year student of the same and has a lot to say about the course through his experience. He joined the program only after in-depth research. What attracted him the most was the location of the program, Dubai, which is the hub of globalization. Some major highlights of the course are

  • The curriculum is similar to that of the IMT Ghaziabad PGDM program but the additional international exposure is the cherry on the top.
  • The program is taught by an elite faculty base comprising globally recognized professors. The foreign professors mainly hailing from France, the US, Slovenia, UK offer a broader insight into the international management aspects
  • Right after the end of the First Term you are allotted Company Projects. You have to work in accordance with Dubai culture and will learn a lot about the field you are entering. You can do more than one such project also as that will broaden your network and knowledge.
  • The marketing enthusiasts get to experience the splendid GITEX (Gulf Info Tech Exhibition). It’s an electronics trade show at the Dubai World Trade Centre that is held twice a year. It is a unique opportunity to gain Sales and Marketing experience.
  • Recently the DCP students have made the name of the institution through international companies. Some major achievements include - 4 teams of DCP made it to the finals of the Global Management Challenge with 6 other UAE teams and one DCP team was 4th in the region; The DCP team under the mentorship of Dr. Zalzala won the Google Online Marketing Challenge (GOMC) in the Middle East and Africa.
  • The internship and placement scenario is a bit confusing because in Dubai internships start in January whereas in India internships begin in August.
  • The placements take place in India itself and DCP students are treated at par with the regular students. Despite this many companies offer better offers to DCP students mainly because of their widely gained exposure.

My brother's experience was amazing and he recommends it to anyone who wants to explore outside the box.

Is IMT Ghaziabad's weekend PGPM program a good option?

Simranjit Kaur
Shivani RanaPGDM from Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad (Graduated 2016)

The program is a well-structured one and has been established for a long time now.

Suitability: The program is a good choice if you want to upgrade your skills, broaden your learning experience, or switch careers. Homeowners if you are looking for a salary spike this program does not guarantee it as it provides placement assistance but not proper placement opportunities.

How good is IMT Ghaziabad for a PGDM (2 years)? Specifically, how good is the PGDM (F/T) program?

Gaurav Goplani
Abhijeet GauravStudied at Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad

If you are really keen to join IMT Ghaziabad go for the DCP program only. It’s the only program worth spending your time and money on. It guarantees quality education, premium batch quality, faculty, and the overall environment. Also, IMT Ghaziabad is well known for its rich competition culture.

But there are many demerits that overshadow the merits of IMT Ghaziabad. For instance, the campus has an undisciplined environment owing to the influence of Delhi culture. The faculty is also deorbiting in the sense that they don’t care about the reputation of the institute anymore. The batch size is also a major disadvantage at IMT Ghaziabad. You shouldn’t expect a batch size lower than 500-600.

For those who take the DCP program, keep in mind that the internship opportunities will be difficult due to the difference in work culture. You will have to try hard to move forward.

Do your own part of research that is not just based on figures and then join the college.

How good is PGDM with Oprations at IMT Ghaziabad or TAPMI?

Shubham AroraStudied Human Resource Management at Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad (Graduated 2018)

My friends passed out from IMT Ghaziabad and said that your specialization does not really matter. What matters is the institute. She was in a dilemma about choosing IMT and TAPMI and later went for IMT Ghaziabad and is very proud of her decision. She thinks it has many advantages over TAPMI like

  • IMT Ghaziabad has a better reputation and brand name than TAPMI
  • Most recruiters consider IMT a top B School of the country and give it preference to TAPMI
  • IMT does not instill unnecessary rigor and has a calm relaxed environment. It’s up to you to grab the necessary opportunities and climb the ladder
  • The campus life is usually student driven so it helps in overall personality development
  • The Operations faculty at IMT Ghaziabad is a notch above TAPMI

All these points clearly show that IMT Ghaziabad is better than TAPMI.
