The doctoral program "Molecular Biology of Cells" is a member of the Göttingen Graduate School for Neurosciences and Molecular Biosciences (GGNB). The graduate school offers a joint modular training program to which the twelve doctoral programs of GGNB contribute and that is open to all GGNB students. In addition to a lecture and seminar program, training consists of (1) individual counseling by thesis committees, (2) intensive methods courses of 1-3 weeks in special training labs, (3) 2-3-day methods courses in the laboratories of the participating faculty, (4) professional skills courses such as scientific writing, presentation skills, intercultural communication, project management, team leadership skills, conflict resolution, ethics, and career development, and (5) student-organized scientific meetings, industry excursions, and intercultural events. Students are able to tailor their individual curriculum by choosing from a large number of courses and events.

Tuition for doctoral studies is fully subsidized by the government for international and domestic students.
The administrative semester fee of approx. $365.44 covers transportation (local buses and regional trains in Lower Saxony, Hamburg, and Bremen) and a number of added amenities.
Doctoral students who receive a scholarship from public German funding schemes (e.g. DAAD, Max Planck Society) will pay a reduced fee (by $91.36) upon presentation of their scholarship confirmation to the Registrar's Office prior to paying the semester fees.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Master's degree (or equivalent) in biosciences, chemistry, physics, medicine, or related fields.
- In case of MSc degrees from abroad, it may be that the faculty requests the fulfillment of additional requirements before admission to doctoral studies (e.g. an oral exam, a written progress report after 6 months, etc.).
- Short abstract of student’s Ph.D. thesis (1/2 to 1 A4-page)
Indian Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Language requirements: Demonstration of sufficient English language skills by earning the minimum required grade on an internationally recognized test.
- As a rule, the last test must have been taken no more than two years prior to submission of the application for admission to this degree program (date received).
- Proven higher education in English or a reasonably long stay in an English-speaking country is also acceptable.
International students hailing from non-English speaking countries can prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
