The international Master's/PhD/MD-PhD Neuroscience Program is a member of the Göttingen Graduate Center of Neurosciences and Molecular Biosciences (GGNB), funded by the German Excellence Initiative, under the umbrella of the Georg-August University School of Science (GAUSS). It is conducted jointly by the Georg-August University Göttingen, the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, the Max Planck Institute for Experimental Medicine, the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics, and Self-Organization, the German Primate Center, and the European Neuroscience Institute Göttingen. The intensive, research-oriented education qualifies the students for professional work in the fields of neurosciences.

Tuition fees for the Neuroscience Program are covered to a great extent by the German government, with the exception of a nominal fee of approximately $379 and $477 per semester, depending on the type of scholarship a student receives. Currently, the semester fee includes the so-called semester ticket for the free use of local buses (GöVB) as well as regional trains in Lower Saxony, Bremen, and Hamburg.
German health insurance is obligatory for all students who are not citizens of the European Union. Special student insurance is available at low rates to all Master's students under 30 years of age. This insurance covers the costs of normal medical treatment (including dental care) in Germany. The monthly payment is currently approx. $110.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree (or an equivalent degree) in biology, psychology, medicine, physics, or related fields. Applications are welcome even if the required degree has not been awarded by the time of application as long as this will be conferred before courses start in October.
- Good to excellent results after the first year qualify for direct admission to a three-year doctoral project in one of the participating research groups. The Master’s thesis requirement is waived.
Indian Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Language requirements: Demonstration of sufficient English language skills by earning the minimum required grade on an internationally recognized test.
- As a rule, the last test must have been taken no more than two years prior to submission of the application for admission to this degree program (date received).
International students hailing from non-English speaking countries can prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
