Campus life is quite laid-back; you may hang around with your buddies anywhere throughout the college, from the RD chai to the main canteen. The nicest feature of the campus is its greenery, and the worst feature is its lack of shops. Students, teachers, and support personnel are extremely helpful and will assist you at any time. The college is roughly 5 kilometers from the Dhanbad railway station. A large bazaar and eateries are also nearby. The college is completely secure.

IIT Dhanbad Social Life

In addition to the rigorous academic requirements, IIT Dhanbad provides students with numerous opportunities for social interaction and bonding with their cohort. IIT Dhanbad is well-known for its yearly student initiatives and year-round events. Among the notable events are:

  • Srijan: Srijan is Eastern India's largest socio-cultural event, and it has been in the spotlight since 1977. Every year, it attracts over 20,000 students from more than 200 colleges around the country, with prize money totaling more than INR 7.5 lakh.
  • Geoconfluence: Geoconfluence is a project of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), ISM Student Chapter, in collaboration with the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), ISM Student Chapter, and Department of Applied Geophysics students.
  • CONCETTO: "CONCETTO" is one of the largest Techno-management fests in Eastern India, with over 1000 participants from 100 different colleges and universities swarming the grounds of ISM to demonstrate their technical ability.
  • Parakram: Every year, the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad hosts the All India Inter-College Sports Fest, Parakram. It gives a venue for athletes to demonstrate and develop their talent at the national level.
  • MINE FEST: MINEFEST is a one-of-a-kind hypertechnical fiesta that caters to and nurtures aspiring geotechnical grads. The FEST is a golden opportunity for graduates from all earth scientific disciplines to meet with industry titans.

IIT Dhanbad has adequate sports facilities. IIT Dhanbad has two full-size grounds: the Lower Ground, which is an absolute giant, and the Upper Ground, which is a little smaller but still enormous. Basketball and squash courts are available.IIT Dhanbad had also the Student Activity Centre (SAC), a massive structure dedicated to the cause of indoor sports, fitness, and, of course, innovative activities. Both men and women have access to a fully equipped gym. IIT Dhanbad had an Olympic-sized swimming pool that was built when IIT(ISM) hosted the aquatic events for the 2011 National Games. The SAC contains a boxing ring, billiards and pool tables, and other amenities.

The library assists all students and faculty with reference services, semester test preparation, project writing, research, and other academic and research needs. Records management, information retrieval, and service delivery are all totally automated. The library has 137,725 books, 40,360 journal-bound volumes, 22 current journals, 10,967 theses and dissertations, and 50 periodic magazines.

The IIT ISM Dhanbad library also has continuous access to e-books from Springer, Taylor & Francis netBases. The Central Library, which is open 24 hours a day, offers a massive database of books, journals, theses, and research papers, among other things. They also have licensed electronic resources.

  • On the campus, there are nine hostels with separate rooms for boys and girls.
  • The college has cutting-edge health facilities, as well as a 24-hour ambulance service and campus security.
  • The college offers its pupils a gym.
  • The fully air-conditioned theatre is used to host a variety of activities, including contests, workshops, intern speeches, and the "Hackfest" event.

  • There is also a Dimensional Metrology laboratory in which various linear, angular, and surface flatness are available.
  • Forging, Carpentry, Fitting and Sheet Metalworking, Welding, Casting and Machining, Induction Melting furnaces, Gear, Surface Planer Machine, Tool & Cutter Grinding Machine, etc. are among the facilities found in the central workshop.
  • It serves as a nodal hub for the National Digital Library (NDL) Project, which has its main office in IIT Kharagpur.
