What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“It is refreshing to be among youth and draw energy from them”

First, I am genetically inclined to be in the education sector as my father is also a teacher. I was inspired to choose this career by his life. My experience in this profession has led me to be comfortable with students and exploring new technologies. No matter how old the calendar says you are, this line keeps you young. I enjoy spending time with youth and draw energy from them.

What is your philosophy of leadership?

“Impart accountability and belonging in all stakeholders”

I am a strong believer in 'inclusiveness-based administration'. I try to involve as many stakeholders as possible in the decision-making process, and later on in the implementation process. As a result, accountability and belonging are fostered among all sections.

How do you plan the marketing and administration of your school?

“Focus on quality education and developing industry connections”

My focus as Director has been to groom and train the future of the institute, i.e. young faculty. They have always been encouraged to introduce innovative ideas and approaches for curriculum, teaching pedagogy, and lab development. In my view, the alumni network is the best ambassador for any institute, so I will focus on the alumni network.

Thirdly, my strategy focuses on connecting with businesses. Lastly, the infrastructure facilities must be adequate.

What can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute?

"Learn in a multicultural and adaptive environment"

The foreign students visiting our institute acquire knowledge, skills, and attributes related to technology, as well as various social traits such as adaptation, flexibility, and cultural diversity. These are very important aspects, and their institutes are aware of their importance as well. We have some laboratories that compare favourably with some labs in partner institutes outside of India, and some of our faculty are internationally renowned for their research. As a result, students get a 360-degree learning experience.

Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different backgrounds?

“Financial support and soft skill training for needy students”

In my opinion, as well as National Education Policy 2020, for giving admission to students of different races or economic backgrounds, it is important to provide bridge courses to students. The focus should be kept on students who are in need of financial assistance, as well as training them in soft skills development.

What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“Aligning ourselves with the National Education Policy”

Through the redesign of our programs and restructuring our administration and governance to facilitate the same, we should give priority to enhancing the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teaching and research culture within the institute. Experiential learning should also be a priority, requiring a new curriculum, delivery methods, and evaluation systems.

What has been your vision for the university and its development?

“Achieve top global and national ranking in the future”

The idea of evolution is a natural phenomenon, so I am also affected by it. As soon as I joined MNIT, my vision was to increase the NIRF ranking of the institute. When I took Charge in 2016 the rank was 73. Now in 2021, it is the 37th best Engineering institute in the country. The idea that high rank is merely an indicator has now dawned on me, and my vision, as well as my focus, is clear as to what inspires high ranks.
