What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students of this Institute?

My responsibilities include preparing students according to global standards and guiding them for their future goals”

Being a faculty of Chemical Engg. Department of MNIT, my most important role is to teach students the basic subjects of Chemical Engineering. It needs to be done in such a way that they get interested and develop an understanding of the practical aspects necessary for industrial adaptation. There are many Ph.D. students working on energy optimization, biofuels and water treatment under my supervision. Moreover, I was the former Head of the department successfully fulfilled all my responsibilities towards the people in the department and the institute.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

“Through open discussion and conversation with them”

Over my 22 years of teaching experience, I exchanged knowledge with my colleagues and researchers by participating in open discussions with them. I am very open to meeting people working with me and exploring new ways for solving any problem. I visit my laboratory very often to make sure that there is a healthy environment in between the students.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects?

Conducting and coordinating interdisciplinary conferences, seminars, and workshops from all departments”

Currently, practical knowledge is way more important than theoretical approaches. Therefore, I motivate students to indulge in thinking and exploring the industrial market. I ensure arrangements for them to meet the experienced professionals from these sectors. This has been done in many ways like conferences, faculty development programs, and seminars, etc. Recently, I conducted an online internship program in May 2021 through IIChE. Moreover, I get myself involved in coordinating interdisciplinary conferences, seminars, and workshops.

What are the best practices offered by the department to the students?

“Bringing a group of students, educators and investigators together to analyse the industrial needs”

As per my opinion, it can only be achieved by healthy interactions and bringing people together. As a result, they can work individually to acquire the skills that they need. There may be several ways to achieve this. For instance, students can have extra sessions to discuss their performance and evaluate it.

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it gets updated?

“Teaching theoretical knowledge and practical skills simultaneously is my aim”

All efforts are in vain without a plan and a strategy. Therefore, I plan my lectures and labs in such a way that theoretical knowledge and practical approaches get taught simultaneously. Moreover, I involve modelling and simulation lectures to keep students updated about automation in the industries.

How does your department prepare students for Higher education?

“Counselling and training sessions to help excel in higher education entrance exams”

We regularly arrange counselling lectures from accomplished individuals from renowned universities. Also, efforts are made towards interactions, innovations and new strategies which could lead them on a path of higher education. Encouraging students to participate in conferences to gather current research knowledge is also essential.

How do you help your student to thrive in this competitive world?

“Learning to motivate the interest and goals of the student will help nurture their competitive spirit”

The competitive spirit of the student can be encouraged by motivating their interest and their goals. They should be introduced to practical training, encouraged to enter, participate and excel in small and large competitions. Extra-curricular activities of their interest should be made available for the healthy mental state of the student.
