What is the program that you are offering in your institute?

Polytechnic (Diploma), undergraduate (B. Tech) and postgraduate (M. Tech) courses”

School of Engineering and Technology (SET) offers polytechnic (Diploma), undergraduate (B. Tech) and postgraduate (M. Tech) Courses and interdisciplinary research (PhD) Programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering. The school has a dedicated team of experienced and highly qualified faculty members and skilled and trained technical staff. We are equipped with state-of-the-art workshops, laboratories and computing facilities.

The school emphasizes all the important aspects related to core engineering; such as mechanics, electrical machines, power distribution, kinematics, thermodynamics, etc. We also foster a spirit of entrepreneurship among students to enable their own ventures.

What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt for?

“MoU’s, Students clubs, value-added extra certificate courses”

School of Engineering and Technology (SET) have MOU with national and international universities. SET provides different platforms and membership for the students which are essential for the development of the students. It includes:

  • ISHRAE, ISLE, FSAI student chapter
  • Centre of Excellence in Solar and Water
  • PU SAE club
  • Aero-modelling club
  • Use of ICT tools in teaching
  • Certification courses by an external domain expert.
  • Campus recruitment training from first semester onwards
  • Placement and internship in core MNC companies with high packages
  • Selections in GATE and PSUs.

What are some valuable insights into the program that you are offering?

“Induction programs, special attention to slow learners and Continuous Evaluation”

The SET has implemented the following decisive measures:

  • Induction programme for newly joined students so that their social skills improves, resulting in a better learning experience.
  • SET applies formative and summative assessment to ensure effective learning such as quizzes, classroom dialogues, observations and other instructional methods.
  • The SET has a strong emphasis on internal assessment.
  • Special programmes are organized to motivate the slow learners wherein special individually focused care is bestowed on such students by providing them remedial classes by senior students/Faculty.
  • Continuous Evaluation System: The performance of students is continuously evaluated in the form of continuous assessments. This helps students to prepare the syllabus continuously in a systematic manner.
  • SET introduced a special programme called Talent Enrichment Programme (TEP) having one credit. This programme includes recruitment training, Non-syllabus projects, and special workshops for improving practical skills.

How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?

Intensive placement training is offered along with industry training”

The School of Engineering and Technology has had a pointed focus on training the students for campus placement from the first batch of students. The campus recruitment comes under the purview of the placement officer. The placement officer is assisted by a team of Placement coordinators drawn from each department – one faculty member (DTPC) and two student members. This team plans and coordinates the activities related to placement training.

The Intensive placement training is offered only to those who have opted for campus recruitment. It is worth mentioning that till the third year all students undergo the common training programs irrespective of the options they may be choosing. Such an approach to the training programs ensures that all students get equipped to employability to a certain extent.

Also, off-campus interviews in industries are planned by the placement officer exclusively for students of SET.

How did you train yourself and the faculty to deliver this program to the students?

“Training in innovative and dynamic pedagogy”

In sync with its educational ideology, the SET emphasizes on striking the right balance between general education and subject-specific education. Keeping this in perspective, SET has reoriented most of its courses. The curriculum comprises general education and engineering education as the problem-solving skills of engineers are equally influenced by societal values.

The Teaching-learning methods adopted by the faculty members include lecture, interactive mode, project-based learning, computer-assisted learning, experiential learning, student seminars etc. Project training and special workshops for improving practical skills is an integral part of most of the courses.

How do you tend to build an industry connection with this program?

“We provide students and faculty with industrial exposure, which prepares them for the future”

  • To assist the departments in organizing workshops, conferences and symposia with joint participation of the industries
  • Encouraging Engineers from industries to visit institutions to deliver lectures
  • Participation of experts from industries, in curriculum development
  • To encourage faculty members to use their expertise in solving the problems faced by the industries, thus creating opportunities for consultancy.
  • Visit of industry executives and practising engineers to the Institute for seeing research work and laboratories
  • Memorandum of Understanding between the institute and industries to bring the two sides emotionally and strategically closer.

What are the benefits and career options after pursuing this course?

“In essential upcoming areas such as nuclear technology, robotics, biomedical technology, etc”

The broadness of the Engineering degree offers a wide array of career possibilities. The key characteristics of the profession are its breadth, flexibility, and individuality. The career paths of core branch engineers are largely determined by individual choices, a unique advantage in a dynamic world. Engineers are no longer confined to the traditional industries of aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing, but are also employed extensively in important emerging areas, such as nuclear technology, robotics, biomedical technology and energy systems. Furthermore, our students acquire valuable skills in creative thinking, critical analysis and teamwork, which are highly sought after in any engineering industry.
