Dr. Nirmal Dagdee has been working as the Director of Academics at Shivajirao Kadam Group of Colleges, Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He is associated with the academics and education sector for the last 35 years. Prior to Shivajirao, he has worked as a Professor and Department Head in reputed institutions. He has also published 20+ research papers and journals. He has done B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD as part of his academics.

What keeps you connected with the education sector and how has your experience been so far with the institute?

"My passion of educating youths and prepare them to contribute for the nation's growth have kept me intacted"

Teaching has always been my passion. Being working as the Director of Academics and being associated with academics gives me immense pleasure by giving me an opportunity to be a part of students' careers. Nowadays, technical manpower is very much needed for the development of a country. Hence well trained and technically skilled manpower is needed for the hours and being a technical academician, it gives me the opportunity to design curriculum, train faculty members and mentor students so that they can be best possible technocrats and help in developing the nation.


Being the Director of SKITM, what is your philosophy of leadership? 

"Leadership means including everyone in decision making and giving them equal chance to showcase their talents"

In my opinion, members are the most important assets for any organization. And for me, the truest form of leadership is where everyone is allowed to speak and get a fair chance to showcase their skills. I have complete faith in my team members and I believe in collective wisdom. And before taking any decision, I involve as many members as possible and brainstorm the situation with them. Lastly, I provide a conducive environment to everyone in my college to help them learn and grow. 


How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practices of industry?

"Curriculum is a perfect amalgamation of real time projects, apprenticeships, guest sessions and professional visits"

We strongly believe that practical exposure is very important together with theoretical knowledge for students. Therefore, we send our students for internships in reputed organizations for the purpose of utilizing their existing skills, help them to learn new one and make them aware about processes and people work together in the corporate world. We also motivate our students to take real time industrial projects and innovate solutions for them. Our basic objective behind this is to build skills like critical thinking, problem solving, soft skills along with team building and leadership skills in them. In addition to this, our institute has signed MOUs with reputed industries to offer latest courses to students in disciplines like data analytics, machine learning and automation etc. Lastly, guest lectures, industrial visits, workshops and seminars are conducted by us on a regular basis. 


How is your institute more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

"We offer scholarships to eligible students and also promote the culture of equality in our campus"

We welcome students from each corner of society irrespective of their race, cast, religion, color or economic status. We also offer schloarships to eligible meritorious and financially less stable students from time to time.

What are your roles and responsibilities for the University and students?

"To supervise college activities and mentor my students and team members whenever required"

Being the Academic Director, the ambiance of my responsibilities is very vast and dynamic. And I am responsible to develop the curriculum, to guide our faculty and students as and when required, to look after all the academic and non-academic activities which are being conducted in college. Apart from this, monitoring and developing plans to further enhance the quality of our institute are some of my key roles. 


What are the greatest strengths of your SKITM institute?

"Our management, people who work for us, faculties and our infra makes us strong"

The main pillars of our strength are the people who dedicatedly work for us and work with us. Everyone from the top management including the exceptional Board of Governors, leaders and Prof. Shivajirao Kadam who is a great visionary and has been an active member and contributor to various professional and government bodies at National and International Levels, all of them are very humble and supportive in nature. In addition to this, we have an amazing team of highly qualified faculty and staff members to mentor our students. Lastly our well developed infrastructure is the reason of our strength and resilience. 


What are some of the biggest challenges you see in the field of higher education?

"Lack of qualified people to teach students and the New Education Policy are main hurdles"

The New Education Policy has been a challenge for all of us. Because no clear guidelines or exact process for its effective implementation has been laid down which is becoming the hurdle for many institutions. Another challenge is the lack of people having multidisciplinary skills as per educational world and corporate requirements.

Any suggestions which you would like to give to the current youth and aspiring students?

"Believe in yourself and keep upgrading your skills"

I would like to advise my students and our youths to maintain a balance between their personal and professional lives. Also have faith in yourself and keep learning new things and keep upskilling your soft skills and technical knowledge.
