The argument placed by the business department of Apogee company about centralization is a very dicey decision. They have opinionated to close down its branches to cut down on costs and maximize profits. They have also added that the other branches are not adding to the profits. The company’s business department has completely perceived the concept of centralization wrong. The company has branched out to many offices till the day, and closing them down will on the contrary be jeopardizing. A company that has worked through different offices cannot function without them, and shutting them down just for the cause of increasing profit is in no way a proper claim. Let’s still consider their claim to be meritorious, it is simultaneously clung with weak and baseless argument. This claim can therefore be not considered valid.

Firstly, the fundamental issue with the business department’s claim lies in dubious premises. They have mentioned closing down branches to maximize profits. But out of all the offices, there are few of them that contribute to raising profits. Closing down those will impact in a worse manner. In fact, instead of closing down the offices, assessing the issues impacting the internal and external factors should be the main motive. The main reason behind the rising losses can be internal factors like sudden hiring, feeble employees, intimidating seniors, incompetent workforce, corrupt management, and more. Or it can be external factors like the occurrence of natural disasters like earthquakes, drought, floods, and similar issues. It can be a poor response from customers, or an ineffectual customer relationship management team. A very common reason is competitors outrunning in terms of prices, discounts, packaging, portion, and more. Based on these factors should the decision of closing down be implemented?

The second crucial factor that the business department didn’t cater to is cost analysis. They have only mentioned maximization of profit and cutting down on cost. But they have not included glimpses of the cost-sheet balance. In the initial time, there may be a high cost-benefit from the local offices. Since the local offices directly catered to the local vendors, people, and market, they could have better handled the situation. If the idea of centralization is implemented, there will be issues with employees traveling long distances for attending meetings, for attending the customers, and also for quality checks at the manufacturer’s place. All these factors will eventually lead to the lowering of profits contrary to what they expected initially. Their basis of conclusion is completely invalid.

The third factor is highly plausible. If the branches of the company are closed down, that will be pessimistic action as customers will not be able to reach. It is because of this frustration they will opt for the competitor’s product. Their method of cost-cutting by closing down of offices will attract negative publicity in the market. As the competitor will gain positions, the scene will again go back to square one where the company will lose profit.

lastly, though the business department’s decision cannot be completely considered baseless as they tried to identify the major cause of the issue. And if according to them, centralization was a legit solution then they could have added more facts and statistics, to make it appear more convincing. They could have decided on a centralized decision-making body instead of an office. They should have also placed their voices on the public’s opinion about the closure of the branches.
