The company’s marketing department highly suggests its executive body stop the manufacture of the deluxe air filters. They recommended the advertisements on social networks and on TV where people indulge most of the time. The suggestions are drawn from the reports showing the sales of the economy filters and the annual profits obtained by the company at the end of the year. This extent of recommendation is purely based on the reports showing the sales of the economy filters. The company’s profits have dropped significantly to losses from huge profits since they began manufacturing and marketing the deluxe filter six months back. The company has mentioned that they were concentrating on the advertisement of the economy filters even if that had some demerits.
The marketing department assumes that whenever the company discontinues the new deluxe air filters, the customers will start buying the economy filters. These companies’ filters have started considering the profits obtained and the losses from the economy’s model. Raising the price of the deluxe filter will help the company raise the sales of the economy mode. But however, this is a wrong notion as assumed by the company. As the deluxe product is preferable by the customers because of its quality and sustainability. Moreover, the deluxe filter may not require frequent replacements. Thus, most customers will choose another competing model from another brand and hence the company’s reputation will be detained from such strategies. If this is the situation in most of the events, then the profits will be low and the company incurs huge economic losses.
Secondly, there were many sustainable marketing strategies available from the current market that might enhance the profits for the company. It’s possible that lowering the cost of the economic model and raising the price of the deluxe model, otherwise a hike in both of the models, may actually raise the profits. This may raise the cost in the entire market and hence will lure the customers from the competing products and retain the current customers. At the same time, customers of the deluxe model may place a high and premium value on its convenience. The complete analysis must include the commitment to the consumers of its products to provide the best service for a longer duration. This can cause some losses to the company in the initial days, the product itself undergoes the best stage of advertisement in the most efficient organic marketing.
Thirdly, the company observed that the profit from the economic model is decreasing only because of the manufacture and availability of the deluxe model. This is the wrong assumption from the company’s side by criticizing its own products. It is equally possible that other factors, such as increased competition from the co-operating companies and its better-quality products. There was a decrease in the particular product because of the lockdown being imposed in this recent pandemic situation. The air filter requirement had been decreased drastically as the vehicles were not used mostly and the level of pollution also decreased. And this is one of the reasons for the losses incurred by the company. Reasons may be many but the solution must be efficient.
As a concluding point, the marketing department’s argument is that they have discontinued the deluxe filters because they were not getting better profits which they were expecting to be obtained from the economy model. But they have not considered the consequences that prevailed because of this hard decision. Moreover, the department failed to establish a clear causal connection between the availability of the deluxe air filter and hence decreasing profits. In order to strengthen its argument, the main thing the department has to consider is the pricing adjustments on a par with the other competing companies. The price adjustment is the better strategy to maximize the profits and must also provide a piece of wider and better evidence that the deluxe filter is the cause of the decline in the annual profits of the company. The major disadvantage is the idea of advertising the economy filter rather than making better changes for future products.
