How good is SCMHRD for MBA in finance?

PM
Piyush Malawat Posted On : April 23rd, 2021
Studied at Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development

One of my relatives who used to be a student of SCMHRD feels that the course is directly proportional to the quality or effort of the students who are a part of it.

He has shed some light on the following:

  • Academics: The course curriculum can be a tad gruesome and it has more to do with finance as all the students are prepared to tough it out in finance. They will take some other specialization if not finance. So he advises the students and would-be students to prepare themselves. The course structure is similar to the standards of the industry and also on equal footing with other colleges of repute.
  • Placements: Major banks like ICICI, Citibank, AXIS, HDFC, etc come to the institute for placements. They may offer positions like relationship managers or credit analysis, etc. They can also offer positions like equity research in HSBC, verity solutions, credit analysis in JPMC, DE Shaw, etc. You will be able to choose from a wide range of domains.
  • Faculty: One of the teachers was CFA/FRM qualified. She had completed her CA, MBA, Ph.D., and was a banker.
  • Background: Most of the candidates are from an engineering background. Some are from the CA background, BBA, and also from the commerce background.

The institute also provides a good platform for appearing in various events of the institute and corporate events. It can be a good way to stand out from the crowd.

What is the CAT cutoff for the PGDM/MBA program at IMT Hyderabad?

SD
Subhasmita Desh Posted On : July 11th, 2023
lives in Hyderabad, Telangana, India

CAT scores are just used for qualifying for evaluation and a high score does not guarantee admission. A person's managerial skills cannot be completely evaluated on the basis of the CAT score. So his entire profile is taken into consideration. IMT Hyderabad cutoff for General Category is listed below.

PGDM

90

PGDM Marketing

90

PGDM Finance

90

The overall CAT cutoff is 90 percentile. However, it’s important to note that this cutoff depends on the relative pool of applications.

Once the candidates are shortlisted for the selection process the following things are considered for evaluation

  • CT-GE-PI (Critical Thinking, Group Exercise, and Personal Interview)-70% weightage
  • academic scores (10th, 12th, and graduation)-30% weightage.

So, apart from focusing on CAT, make sure you are preparing for the interview well!

What are some bitter truths about Great Lakes, Chennai, PGDM?

GM
Gaurav Mukharjee Posted On : July 11th, 2023
Great Lakes Institute of Management

Great Lakes Chennai is a dream college of many MBA aspirants but the truth is it is kind of overestimated. One of my friends who is a recent pass-out, unveiled some dark truths about the institute

  • The admission process at Great Lakes is highly biased and untransparent. The majority of seats are filled by Management quota thus affecting those who had high percentile and performed excellently in the interview.
  • My friend also told me how Great Lakes charged registration fees for the WAT/PI round and filled those seats with Management quota.
  • The rankings of the institute are forged and paid. Don't let these rankings make you believe that it is at par with top B Schools.

These were some harsh realities about the Great Lakes that I felt anyone planning to join it should be aware of.

Is rural management from XIMB - 3 years work experience with TCS worth it?

AK
Anjini Kumar Posted On : April 20th, 2021
Ph.D. in Strategic Management, Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (2020)

Firstly, it is important to understand what management means to you. Yes, just like People going to Microsoft or Google post-Engineering were passionate about coding/computers vis-a-vis those who opted for say a TCS/Wipro. Therefore, if a Management education is an escape route from the monotonous coding life, do not go for this degree. Simply because after a few years of working, you might find yourself in a regretful situation.

Now coming to XIMB, Bhubaneswar as a college, these are the key highlights.

  • The colleges have an impeccable infrastructure.
  • The faculty is great.
  • Great campus culture
  • Good placements

However, check the following reasons why you should not go for the Rural Management course.

  • The Rural Management course requires a lot of fieldwork and expedition which won’t suffice the basic ROI model.
  • The course is shifted to the other campus which is situated in a suburban area. This is a huge downfall as you might be curtailed from important facilities and infrastructure.
  • Placement may not be that great, having invested 13 lacs as the course fee itself. With mediocre placement records, this might not be a good return on your investment.
  • With a 3 year experience in TCS and a continuous C band, the salary you have now will be more or less equal to what you might get after placements. Hence, it won’t make a huge difference.
  • Undoubtedly, the scope for courses like Rural Management is limited, that’s why most people who acquire an RM degree go for corporate jobs at last.

Categories

Rural Management in XIMB

Course Fee

13.80 lakh

Highest CTC

13.2 LPA

Average CTC

9 LPA

Overall, if you are very much into the management sector, go for courses like MBA and other PGDM courses instead of Rural Management. Limited scope, extensive fieldwork, mediocre placements is not a good return when you pay such a high fee. Hence, choose wisely.

I currently have a salary of 25L as a product manager. Is it worth it doing an MBA further at ISB, Hyderabad or in US universities? I want to do entrepreneurship, and a MBA for networking

AA
Antra Anapindi Posted On : February 9th, 2023
Former Co-founder & COO/Head of Admissions (2017–2019)

Since your main goal is to grow a stronger network, considering US universities is of no use. However, if you are okay with developing international networks US universities are a viable option.

Comparing ISB Hyderabad with a US university is a lengthy discussion. Your choice should depend on whether you are planning to settle abroad or settle within India. If your ultimate goal is settling abroad, US universities should be your only option.

If we compare the pay structure, the average package offered at ISB Hyderabad is nearly the same as your current salary whereas US universities offer 7 times better salaries.

Both options require a lot of effort from the initial stage. To get into either, you need a spectacular profile and an impactful application strategy.

How good are colleges like SIIB, TAPMI, Narsee Monjee Bangalore, KJ Somaiya and Goa institute of Management? Would it be worth to pursue MBA from these colleges after having 2 years of job experience?

AC

Yes, all these are good colleges and it is worth doing your MBA from any of them after 2 years of work experience. On the other hand, a lot of it depends on various other factors.

The prime question that you should ask yourself is whether you want to pass out of these institutes for the sake of a degree or you would want to try harder for the next year and get into one of the top colleges with a good Percentile.

When we talk about Average Placements, for those who have graduated from top engineering colleges such as IITs and NITs, the average placements for these colleges is less when compared to them and so, it is of no use joining these. Similarly, a person who is from a less renowned college would end up getting a higher-paid job.

The average salary for all these institutes falls under 10 LPA. Nevertheless, it is advisable to try harder for the next year and get a 95+ percentile. This will land you into one of the IIMs. 95% is a decent score for newer IIMs along with some old ones. Only IIM ABC needs a score of 99+. If your 10th, 12th, and Graduation marks are quite decent, then they will not cause any problems (except in the case of IIM A and B). And hence, you will eventually get a better job from an IIM.
