Should I go for an MBA in IIM Indore or wait another year for better opportunities?

PS
Paheli Sinha Posted On : May 28th, 2022
studied at Indian Institute of Management Indore

You should go for IIM Indore. It is a reputed B-School with excellent facilities and academics. IIM Indore placements are also pretty good. During the 2022 campus drive, students received an average CTC of INR 25 LPA. BMW, Cisco, and Accenture Strategy were some of the major recruiters. Joining IIM Indore will be worth the investment.

CAT is highly competitive. You can’t be certain that you will get a good score next year. So, joining IIM Indore will be a wise choice.

How good is an MBA from Osmania University?

NR
Niya Roy Posted On : September 23rd, 2021
MBA Marketing,Osmania University (2021)

There is a huge difference between the educational establishment of Osmania University than what you will usually find in other institutes. However, if you are searching for an academic backdrop concerning a corporate lifestyle, then you should rather choose to join other B-schools. Here are some things I got to know about it online.

  • The study standpoint is quite different in Osmania University.
  • This university would not necessarily spoon feed the choices you have in hand, and will rather spend time crafting you to make choices on your own.
  • The infrastructure of the university is quite good.
  • But when talking about whether a student wants to prepare for government examinations, or the stream they have pursued usually only depends upon the selection they put in prior.
  • This university comes with an upper hand because it provides students ample opportunities to redeem themselves from their mistakes, in their academic life.
  • In terms of the liberty students generally have access to, Osmania University tends to put freedom prior to unjust restrictions.
  • The university, other than the few mentioned above, inculcates general leadership skills in students to improve their way of living or conducting life, both socially and personally.

An MBA graduate from the university will unquestionably have all the required skills necessary for the corporate industry.

What is advisable, to join the PGDMM/PGDPM at NITIE or get a job?

KM
Krishna Mehar Posted On : August 20th, 2021
Studied MBA from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2013)

It's a subjective question and mostly depends on your profile. PGDMM would be advantageous, if you are a fresher, especially with a mechanical or manufacturing background. It is better in terms of securing a good profile, a good package (Avg. 12 LPA), and robust manufacturing domain command.

A few years of work experience would be preferable for the PGDPM course, but it is not required. It's a safe option to play for both freshmen and those with a little experience because it improves your profile, package, and adds the rich experience of a top MBA school - NITIE.

NITIE Mumbai has a great placement record and you only need to maintain a good academic record to secure a good placement package. NITIE is known for running an industry focus curriculum and has a proven record for all courses as far as placement is concerned.

Back in 2014, NITIE started two new courses, i.e. Project Management and Manufacturing Management. Due to the Government’s focus on Make in India, there are ample opportunities in the sector of manufacturing management in the future.

Along with the other courses at NITIE, PGDMM also has a great placement rate. Students of PGDMM get placed in different sectors and are not necessarily limited to manufacturing.

Here are the recent placement highlights of NITIE.

Average CTC  20 LPA
Highest CTC  44 LPA
Major recruiters  ETLI, IDFC First, EY, etc.

PGDMM students get almost equal opportunities as any other branch.

Is JK Business School of Gurgaon good for PGDM?

PG
Pubali Gupta Posted On : July 6th, 2021
MBA from JK Business School, Gurgaon (2017)

JK Business School of Gurgaon is a great option for a PGDM. This college doesn't make any profit and this college comes under the Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of JK. The fees of this college are Subsidised and they are very selective while choosing the students for PGDM.

  • The faculty of this college are very experienced and many of them are from IITs/IIMs who have good industrial exposure. This college is developing business leaders and future managers who will handle the responsibility of the emerging markets.
  • The location of this college is also an added advantage as Gurgaon has now emerged as a haven for investors because it is quite close to Delhi.
  • The academics of this college is very good and every year around 4-5 students get a scholarship to do a 2 months course on management at California State University.

Here are the placement highlights for the institute.

Highest CTC (International)

24 LPA

No of recruiting companies

80+

No of PPO

3

No of students placed

41

Major recruiters

EY, BYJU’s, Decathlon, Berger, etc.

Hence, JK Business School of Gurgaon is a very good college for PGDM where the academics and faculty are excellent and the fee is also considerably less than other colleges.

Will I get a good placement with 70% in 10th, 70% in 12th, 63% in graduation, and an MBA from FMS Delhi?

If you are concerned about your past academic records then rest assured for the final placements don’t usually pay much attention to past academic records.

MBA is much more than just learning and writing your answers and scoring good marks. It is more about applying logic and increasing your decision-making skills. So to compensate for your poor past academic performance, become a part of the managerial committee and improve your resume. Enhancing your decision-making and managerial skills will increase your chances of getting a good placement than your academic background.

Also, FMS in itself is a brand name that will fetch you a good package.

How much percentile do I need to get into top IIMs, FMS, XLRI, if I have very bad academics?

SM
Senjuti Mishra Posted On : May 6th, 2022
studied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (2017)

You may receive calls from XLRI, and FMS, if you score well on the entrance test. These institute doesn’t assign high weightage to past academic score. If you can score above 99.5 percentile in CAT, you may receive calls from IIM C, L, and I.

IIM A and B have high weightage for past academics. If your academic record isn’t good. It’s not likely that you will receive a call.

How do I recover after getting a back in DTU. How does it affect placements, MS and MBA applications?

Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : July 5th, 2023

Honestly speaking your grades have nothing to do with your corporate achievements. I have seen students with decent marks getting no recognition from any on-campus recruiter. My friend too got back. He worked hard with 2 different companies for 4 years and decided to go for an MBA. He gave it his all during his pre-MBA period and finally secured admission to a decent B School.

He soon realized that he was meant for corporate only. It was his personality, communication, and interpersonal skills rather than technical skills that made him successful in the corporate world.

He stated that he scored average marks but made good industry contacts and worked on his presentation skills. He was able to secure a great job and is doing well currently.

So what matters is the brand you associated yourself with rather than the marks you secured.

NM
Nidhi Maheta Posted On : March 10th, 2022

There is no such specific syllabus for Finance and Marketing at IIM Ahmedabad. In the first year, IIM Ahmedabad courses for MBA are designed by the institute.

  • There are a few Finance related courses such as Financial Markets, Financial Reporting, and Analysis, etc. Through these courses, you will learn the basics like how to read and make financial statements. They also teach advanced courses like Corporate Finance during the later terms.
  • You will learn the basics of Marketing through Marketing I, II, and III during the first year of PGP.

In the second year of your PGP, you will have the freedom to choose the area and discipline that you want to study. There are many interesting electives on offer from both Finance and Marketing. There are courses on Trading, Insurance, Advanced Statistics, Artificial Intelligence and Marketing, Brand Management, Marketing Services, etc.

How do the so-called second tier MBA colleges, like NITIE / MDI / IIFT / JBIMS, stack up against the creme de la creme, like IIM A, B, C, L / XLRI / FMS?

AK
Ananya Khanna Posted On : May 19th, 2021
Studied Marketing at Management Development Institute, Gurgaon (2018)

There are several misconceptions about B-Schools among the general public, mostly about placement, alumni, faculty, and brand value. There are several excellent institutes in India for management courses, and all the institutes mentioned in the question are among those.

The points below give some overview about the mentioned institutes:

  • Considering the factor of brand value, it is obvious that there is no institute that can defeat IIMs in India. But, for all other factors such as faculty alumni, placement, etc, all the above-mentioned colleges are almost the same, if not better.
  • Some of the institutes among NITIE, MDI, IIFT, and JBIMS are even better than some of the newer IIMs in several aspects.
  • All of the institutes in the list are among the top 10 B-Schools in India, which makes the level of such institutes quite evident in general.

Therefore, these institutes are in no way backward than the so-called crème de la crème institutes like IIM A, B, C, L, XLRI, and FMS.
