What's most important is that you enjoy it. The BKFS program is highly specialized and designed to equip students with the tools necessary to succeed in any financial-related field.
The PGDM's first year emphasizes variety over specialization. Two years into the program, you'll have the option to focus on either Marketing, Operations, or Finance. It's up to you to determine the kind of career you want to have. Everything in the new system will be up to the individual, replacing both the major and minor systems. Although the HR course is brand new, it will be just as rigorous and cover the same ground as other courses.
Is there any bias against IPM students during placements in IIM Indore? Are they considered equal to PGP students?
Yes, there indeed is a certain level of bias that IPM students face during the placement process. But the reason is well justified. Being a newly established course, IPM lacks the certainty of success. The industries are only gradually developing their trust towards this course over the years. So the recruiters are still a bit hesitant in investing in an IPM student.
But if you look at the figures, you can see that the course has been gaining trust and climbing the ladder drastically over the past few years. Also, I don’t think it’s justifiable to draw a comparison between a 7-year-old program that has already been recognized (PGP) to a newly established course (IPM).
People usually compare these 2 programs because they see IPM as a means to join IIM by escaping CAT. This is not the case at all. IPM is much more than that. It needs no comparison to any other program. It is a full-fledged integrated course that is way ahead of other undergrad or integrated courses across the nation both in terms of the kind of education it offers and the placements.
I want to pursue MBA from Thapar University. Is it a good option?
MBA from Thapar University will entail both the good and the bad. One of my friends studies at Thapar University in the MBA program and this is what he has to say:
- An MBA from Thapar University is good if it is the only option you have and would not like to take another shot at scoring a better institute.
- My cousin graduated with an Engineering degree from Thapar and it was a spectacular experience for him.
- In fact, Thapar University is well known for its engineering programs more than any other discipline.
- During placements, companies recruit on the basis of these factors Brand name and profile.
- If both fit rightly then you can get a very good referral.
- Alternatively, if you have had a meaningful experience, professionally, then that speaks as well.
- The MBA program is not well known at Thapar.
- Also, because the engineering department charges very high fees, the MBA program does that too.
- The ROI will not be good.
Finally, if you or any of your friends are thinking of pursuing an MBA in Thapar University, then please rethink your requirements.
Should I go for an MBA in IIM Shillong or wait another year for better opportunities?
A friend of mine has been in the same situation a while ago. After analyzing all the factors and opportunities, he chose to go with IIM Shillong for his MBA. He secured a percentile over 99% in CAT which helped him make the right decision.
A brand tag of IIM will be a great advantage. Other than that, infrastructure, faculty, and placements of IIM are best as compared to other top institutes offering the same specialized courses.
As compared to old IIMs, IIM Shillong is new but the institute is getting better. The faculty includes a group of experienced professionals and guest lecturers from top industry specialists. It is the cherry on the cake to learn about real-life experiences. But in case you’re thinking about better institutes and IIM Shillong is not your first choice, then you need to rethink about the same.

You must know the importance of one whole year. As investing this same year in IIM Shillong will provide better outcomes and create better opportunities for your future. It is suggested that if you’re also stuck in the same situation and confident about cracking the CAT with percentile needed to get admission in older IIMs then only you can try again. For MBA, you should prefer SIBM, SCMHRD, SIIB in that order. SIBM Hyderabad placements are pretty good. According to the 2022 highlights, the top 10% of students received an average CTC of INR 11.49 LPA. While the highest CTC was INR 15.31 LPA.
SCMHRD, and SIIB offer decent placements as well. According to SCMHRD placements 2021 highlights, students received an average CTC of INR 15 LPA. While SIIB Pune placements have an average CTC of INR 10 LPA.

The general campus life at IMT Ghaziabad is pretty hectic for first-year students. Right after you join, the Personality Development Program is conducted by the seniors. After this, the committee selection process begins. College life is extremely rigorous and includes fest management, mess, seniors placements, and internships. You have to manage and prioritize all such activities altogether. You learn to manage your time, face tight deadlines, and maintain your emotional stability throughout.

- Placements: IMT Ghaziabad placements are known to be the best in the Marketing sector. While many think that only freshers or people with less experience can get Marketing roles, it’s not true. It completely depends on the company offering the role. IMT provides you with lots of opportunities in sales and a few roles in core marketing, media & advertising, and digital marketing. IMT Ghaziabad is the best to kickstart a career in Marketing as it offers the best opportunities and has a strong alumni network.
- Fees: IMT Ghaziabad fee structure for PGDM, PGDM Marketing, PGDM Banking, and Financial Services and PGDM Finance is INR 19.38 lakhs.
- Hostel: IMT Ghaziabad has two hostels, one inside the campus and the other CDL, 4 km by walking distance. You can choose to stay at either during the first year but in the second year, you have to stay at the on-campus hostel only. CDL has much more freedom and better amenities like Air Conditioned rooms.
- Food: IMT Ghaziabad’s mess food is managed by the mess committee which is run by the students themselves. The quality of food is good but once in a while students get bored and ask for a change of the menu. The CDL students can come to the campus mess for the food.
- Prospects: Today the corporate world requires more from MBA graduates rather than specialization in certain fields. IT and Services are doing fairly well and are expected to do so in the future without much change. Analytics is in great demand and will continue to be in demand for at least 5-7 years
