Unless you are getting MTech in top IITs and NITs, NIT Raipur is a decent choice. The MTech in Information Technology has been recently started and is one of the highly coveted programs.
The eligibility criteria for the M.Tech program is - 60% in graduation and qualified GATE or CCMT.
The best way to determine whether MTech is a decent choice is to analyze the ROI. The same has been done for you below:
Total Tuition Fees |
INR 1.4 Lakhs - 2.1 Lakhs |
Average Package |
INR 6 Lakhs - 6.5 Lakhs |
The average package is much more than the total fees so the MTech program at NIT Raipur is definitely worth it. Apart from this, the placement scenario is also very promising. Almost 40% of students get placed every year. The highest package offered is 9-10 LPA and the top recruiting company is Vedanta. There are some exceptionally good faculty members like Rakesh Tripathy.
So yes, MTech from NIT Raipur is definitely worth it!
The better institute for MTech out of IIT Hyderabad and NIT Trichy depends on what you want to do after MTech.
For those inclined towards research work and are willing to go for higher education like Ph.D. from a foreign university, IIT Hyderabad is the most suitable option. This is because it is a new IIT and thus has the best research and lab facilities in comparison to older IITs and NITs. The MTech program here will bring about a drastic change in your overall personality.
For those who want to get employed as soon as possible, then NIT Trichy is a preferable choice. This is because
This does not mean that IIT Hyderabad does not have placement opportunities. It’s just that for placements specifically, NIT is better but overall IIT Hyderabad is the best option.
Based on the GATE score, IIT Bhubaneshwar calls a limited number of students for written tests and interviews. The admission is usually offered on the basis of performance in written test and interview. Each has a different weightage i.e Written Test contains 70% weightage and Interview has 30% of weightage.
The written test will contain the questions from General Aptitude and Metallurgy.
Metallurgy will be on par with the GATE level.
General Aptitude will comprise of Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, and English.
You need to qualify the written test in order to appear for the interview. You need to be prepared with your project for an interview. You must also know the basics of concepts like XRD, Iron- Carbon diagram, and Metallurgy basics. They will put up a list of final selected candidates after the interviews.
Pursuing M Tech from RGPV university will not bring very favourable results. This is because the facilities are not of premium quality. Lack of good quality equipment will not let you complete the project appropriately. And most importantly this university is very lacking when it comes to placements.
If you are willing to pursue M Tech then go for M Tech in IIT or top NITs like NIT Surathkal, NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal. These universities will provide benefits like well-informed faculty, study material, and elaborate funds for big projects. You may even go abroad for research programs.
Chances are not much good as the number of seats in the thermal specialization are less (only 18) and IIT Bhubaneswar conducts a rigorous interview (half an hour to 45 minutes per candidate), within that duration you need to explain the topics on the board to the interviewers. Some of the interview questions asked in the previous year were boundary layer theory, transient heat conduction, the significance of Prandtl, Nusselt, etc.
The process for admission in the course is based on marks secured in graduation. The student must have 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in a 10-point scale in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (with a valid GATE score).
The final selection of regular candidates will be based on the combined scores of the candidates in GATE (70%) and the written test (30%). The Written Test and Interview shall be given equal weightage of 15% each.
Students in the unreserved category will be eligible to sit in the interview subject to scoring a minimum of 40% marks in the written test and for final selection a minimum of 50% marks in the interview.
Hence, an interview becomes a very crucial factor in securing admission. It is completely technical in nature as explained above it judges the in-depth knowledge of the applicant in the subject. NPTEL lectures can be useful in preparing for the interview so as to enhance the understanding of the in-depth concepts of the subject in detail. Since the analysis part of some concepts as mentioned above can also be asked. The project report is also required there so one can expect questions from there also.
Finally, the cut off of the course is around 600 hence you can expect to have a fair chance if you have good understanding and command over your subjects.
The placement scenario for MTech Electrical at IIT Bhubaneswar is quite good. Out of the 13 students studying in 2018-20 batch, 12 got placed in reputed MNC’s like L&T Heavy Engineering, KEC International, and many other companies. The packages offered by MNCs range from 6 LPA to 9 LPA for core companies. There are two areas of specialization for MTech in the EE branch at IIT Bhuvaneswar- Power System Engineering (PSE) and Power Electronics and Drives (PED). Judging by the statistics, around 90% of students in M.Tech Electrical Engineering get placed in IIT Bhuvaneswar. It is quite imperative to note that the scenario for placement in Power System Engineering specialization is better than Power Electronics and Drives(PED). It is due to the fact that PED is a new branch in the institute which was started in 2019. So the first batch of students from PED is yet to experience any placement milieu. However, several companies like delta Electronics have shown their interests and are keen to visit the campus for placements. Although the Mtech program in EE at IIT Bhuvaneswar is among the new ones, yet it has attracted quite decent MNCs for placements.

The biggest problem with most industries is that they don’t support students for Internships. However, India's Top 3 NITs due to its location advantage can still get away with it but mid-tier NIT students are suffering. So I would suggest you look for an institute that can provide an Internship. In order to get jobs in Semiconductor Companies, an Internship is a very effective tool.
Here is a brief comparison of the institutes.
Parameters | NIT Goa | NIT Delhi | NIT Nagpur | NIT Bhopal | NIT Kurukshetra | NIT Durgapur |
Tuition fees | 1.44 LPA | 96,866 | INR 1.25 LPA | INR 1.49 LPA | INR 70,000 | INR 1.49 LPA |
Placement average | 94.64% | 95% | 100% | 82% | 89% | 71.92% |
Average CTC | INR 7.35 LPA | INR 7 LPA | INR 6 LPA | INR 7.56 LPA | INR 11.7 LPA | INR 9.09 LPA |
Your preference order should be as follows.
NIT Bhopal > NIT Nagpur~> NIT Kurukshetra ~> NIT Durgapur > NIT Delhi ~> NIT Goa.
If you want to see rank-wise, of course, IIT Roorkee is the best option and you will notice a difference in a variety of parameters, but IIT Hyderabad is also a good option because it has good faculty members and offers all advanced courses. Placements are also good here. As a result, both are relatively similar.
Both are excellent Mtech programs, but IIT Roorkee has an advantage over IIT Hyderabad due to the older IIT and its superior research environment.
