What should I prefer for: an MTech in CSE from NITs like MNNIT Allahabad, IIIT Bangalore or IIIT Delhi?
According to the 2020 NIRF rankings, MNNIT Allahabad is ranked 48th among the top engineering institutes in India. It offers specializations in Computer Science & Engineering, Software Engineering, and Information Security.
IIIT Bangalore is ranked 62nd and offers postgraduate specializations in Theory and Systems for Computing and Data, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Networking and Communication, VLSI Systems, and Digital Society.
IIIT Delhi is ranked 56th and offers 2 years M.Tech in CSE with specializations in Information Security, Data Engineering, Mobile Computing, and Artificial Intelligence.
Admission:
- For admission in M.Tech at MNNIT Allahabad, one must have a valid score in GATE. The opening and closing rank for CSE was 678 and 639 respectively.
- IIIT Bangalore also accepts a valid score in GATE. There is no fixed cut-off, however, in 2019, admissions to M.Tech were offered up to the GATE score of 652.
- Admission for M.Tech CSE at IIIT Delhi is offered on the basis of the GATE score or qualifying degree percentage for non-GATE seats.
Course Fees:
Apart from tuition fees, there are additional fees payable for IIIT Delhi and IIIT Bangalore.
- MNNIT Allahabad: 1.13 Lakhs (1st Year Fees)
- IIIT Bangalore: 1,60,000 (Tuition fee per semester)
- IIIT Delhi: 1,85,000 (Tuition fee for AY 2019-20)
Placement:
Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Walmart, Amazon, Flipkart, Oracle, Cisco, Citrix, Samsung, Google, Microsoft, IBM, Qualcomm, Adobe, etc. are some of the companies visiting all the three campuses. So, choosing either of the institutes on the basis of visiting recruiters is not an issue.

All three institutes are nationally ranked and offer M.Tech in CSE with specializations in different fields as mentioned above. So, the choice of institute solely lies with the students by considering the stated facts and statistics.
What are the hostel fees for M.Tech aspirants at VNIT Nagpur and how is the condition of the hostels and the food served there?
VNIT Nagpur is one of the most expensive NITs, and its hostels are at par with private college hostels.
The new NBCC constructed hostels have been functional for a few years.The hostels are provided with a TV room and a Table Tennis room. Each hostel room has high speed LAN ports.
The mess food is nowhere close to home cooked meals, but it is better than the one offered by tiffin services. North Indian and South Indian staples are served in the menu, along with some dishes from the Marathi cuisine.
The hostel administration and mess contractors aren’t student friendly at all, but you’ll learn to manage things with time. The hostel fee is on an average, Rs. 32,700 per sem. You can expect a refund of around Rs. 5-10k for an academic year.
Thus, you can expect a decent stay at the VNIT hostels.
How is M.Tech biotechnology at IIT Mandi in terms of research?
Choosing an M.Tech. in biotechnology for research purposes might not be a good decision.
For better job opportunities and placements, opt for other streams like CSC; otherwise, you will end up as a postgraduate in the biotech field without the perfect job you wish for.
The biotech department in most of institutions, including IITs, is weak in nature. Most students prefer other streams for their higher studies, which is a good idea to secure your career.
The only option left for you is to take the JRF and NET exams. If you have a strong interest in the biotech field prefer institutions like IISERs, TIFR, IISc, DU and JNU other than Mandi
Should I go for an integrated PhD or an M.Tech at IIIT Allahabad?
It depends on your future plan. If you want to teach, then go for an integrated Ph.D. degree instead of an MTech from any institute. It will save you 1 year.
However, if you want a career in research then do a Mtech first and then go for your Ph.D. You can get your Ph.D. from other better institutes like some IIT.
An integrated Ph.D. will take a minimum of 6 years to complete. Getting the award depends a lot on your performance and your mentor. If your mentor is happy with your performance, you can get your degree done within 5 years too.
On the other hand, doing an M.Tech and a Ph.D. separately will take at least 7 years.
So, consider all these factors and choose what’s best for you.
How do you compare M.Tech from CSE between IIT Hyderabad and IIT Guwahati in all terms?
Here is a comparison of IIT Hyderabad CSE and IIT Guwahati based on some common parameters.
- Campus: IIT Guwahati has a much better campus than IIT Hyderabad as the latter is still in its construction phase.
- NIRF Ranking: IIT Hyderabad Overall ranking by NIRF is 14 out of 200 colleges in India in 2022 while IIT Guwahati Overall ranking by NIRF is 8 out of 200 colleges in India in 2022.
- Faculty: The CSE department of IIT Guwahati has a higher number of faculty members than IIT Hyderabad. Faculty members at IIT Hyderabad are young and dynamic, always ready to explore new ideas. They also frequently change the pedagogy style to break the monotony and keep up with the recent trends. IIT Guwahati is quite lacking in this aspect.
- Locational advantage: Being located in close proximity to the IT hub, IIT Hyderabad offers a huge locational advantage thus increasing exposure through invited talks and collaborations with industry experts in IIT Hyderabad.
- Research: As far as the research is concerned, IIT Hyderabad clearly is the winner here. The CSE department of IIT Hyderabad has many better-ranked papers in comparison to the CSE department of IIT Guwahati.
- Computing facilities: IIT Hyderabad's computing facilities are great.
Sparing the campus issue, CSE from IIT Hyderabad seems to be a better option than CSE from IIT Guwahati.
How is an MTech in power electronics and power systems at IIT Hyderabad?
Among the newly established IITs, IIT Hyderabad has been growing exponentially and has been ranked 9th by NIRF, one of the highest-ranking bodies.
My friend was a part of the BTech in Power Electronics and Power Systems program and he enlightened me about the academic environment there. According to him, IIT Hyderabad is a great place for research enthusiasts
- Teachers here are very learned, supportive and interactive
- Syllabus is updated and is at par with recent industry trends
- The placement scenario is decent
This place is great for research-oriented students as it has a rich research culture.
Which one is a better career option, ISB's Data Science Certification course or an Executive M.Tech on Data Science from IIT Hyderabad?
It’s difficult to determine the best career option among Data Science Certification courses and an Executive MTech in Data Science from IIT Hyderabad unless I know what your specific goals are. If you are on the lookout for a degree, then an MTech in IIT Hyderabad will suffice for it, but if you are fine with a certificate with a brand name then ISB’s Data Science Certification course will work in your favor.
In my opinion, what matters more than the institute is what you have learned from it. Institutes are just a stepping stone in shaping your career and it's the individual's intellect and will to succeed that eventually drives them to succeed.
Moreover, Analytics is a very broad field, and only after determining what you want to do, can you actually decide the best Institute for it. You can find many institutes, training companies, and MOOCs for the same. It's very crucial to determine the best source for you in order to kick-start a successful career.
Which is better: M.Tech in CSE from IIT Hyderabad or M.tech in theoretical computer science in IIT Guwahati?
Assuming that you are research-oriented, I suggest you choose IIT Guwahati MTech in theoretical CS rather than MTech in CSE from IIT Hyderabad. From the choice of your research-related subjects, theoretical CS seems to be the best option. Moreover, the Mathematics and Computer Science department of IIT Guwahati is extremely good with a knowledgeable faculty base.
MTech at IIT Hyderabad on the other hand is more focused on campus-related work rather than actual theoretical knowledge of the subjects.
It’s important to check if the research interests of the faculty align with your subject interests.
Which one should I choose, an MS in IIT Madras or an M.Tech in IIT Hyderabad?
Whether you should choose MS in IIT Madras Or MTech in IIT Hyderabad depend on what your plans are after completing your Masters.
If you want to get employed right away, MTech is a more preferable option than MS. IIT Madras being one of the oldest and highly reputed IITs, is better for an MTech than IIT Hyderabad, a relatively new IIT. You will be surprised to know that IIT Madras has been consistently ranked 1 by the NIRF Rankings in 2022 for the fourth time in a row and Internationally, IIT Madras was ranked 255 in the QS World University Rankings of 2022.
I think pursuing MS from IIT Madras is a good choice given the quality of research work at IIT Madras. The only problem is research takes around 2.5-3.5 years while MTech can be done in 2 years. Here are the placement statistics of both the institutes

If you are certain of doing a PhD after your Masters, go for MS from IIT Madras definitely. But if you want to sit for placements within 2 years, an MTech program from either IITs will be helpful.
How is placement in IIT (BHU) Varanasi in the mechanical branch for M.Tech?
Placements of any college depend on its Alumni Network and this fact can’t be denied that being a 100-Year-Old institution IIT BHU has a wide range of alumni working in every area. Placements here are comparable to other IIT’s. MTech in Mechanical at IIT BHU has a good placement percentage. IIT BHU has Training and Placement Cell working hard for the placement of their students.
There are several PSUs like IOCL, ISRO, BPCL, HUL, CIL, ONGC, etc. who came to the campus for placement drive. Besides there are other private firms too like Bajaj, Maruti, Jaguar, Trident Automobiles, etc. that visit campus too for recruiting students from MTech in Mechanical Engineering. With good placement percentage students are placed in well knows firms with an average pay package of 8.10 Lakhs per annum and the highest package offered was 30 LPA CTC.
