How is life in IIIT Hyderabad?

AC
Anupama Chauhan Posted On : August 1st, 2023
studied at International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad

Life at IIIT Hyderabad is very vibrant and fun-filled irrespective of how rigorous the academic culture is. Honestly, all that matters is your company. If you have found the most amazing friends, you will have fun doing everything. You will enjoy the coding sessions, doing group assignments, and going for PT together early in the morning. Staying aware till 4 in the morning to complete projects is another kind of fun. You will even enjoy organizing and cleaning your room on Sundays.

So yes, life at IIIT Hyderabad is certainly very tiresome and rigid but the occasional events and activities surely are great stress boosters.

Everything becomes fun if you have the best company be it the compulsory PT or classes from 08:30 am. In the end, you will realize all the discipline helped you become a more responsible and independent person.

How is the campus life (hostels, mess food, professors, facilities, fun stuff, etc.) at IIT Bhubaneswar ?

PS
Pranav Saha Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Bachelors of Technology Computer Science Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (2021)

IIT Bhubaneswar has the 2nd largest campus among all IIT’s (including the old ones). It is spread over 936 acres of land situated at the foot of Barunei Hill and provides a serene and peaceful academic environment.

Hostel Infrastructure: There are in total 3 blocks for boys hostel and 1 block for the girl’s hostel. All the hostels are built with modern facilities including fast speed Wi-Fi connection with one LAN facility in every room. All the rooms are hygienic and cleaned regularly. There is a hot water facility in the washrooms during the morning hours. To avoid the hustle of washing clothes and getting clean drinking water, all the hostel floors are provided with washing and Aquaguard machines. Besides this, there is a TV room in every hostel block in order to let you watch the daily news and cricket-football matches together. In addition to this, there is a badminton court and a basketball court present within the hostel premises.

Mess Food: The food at the IIT Bhubaneswar mess is far better compared to other engineering hostel messes. Of course, it’s not 5-star quality food but the taste and quality of food you get in the mess is quite edible. Well, the mess is not actually a mess is what you can say, after all. Other than the mess, other food options inside the campus are (a) Canteen near 1st Year Lab Complex which sells samosas, Vadas, and Maggi, besides lunch options (b) Bakery in Shopping Complex which sells rolls, puffs, nano-pizzas, etc. (c) Canteen near L-Gate at the campus which sells Maggi, paranthas and fast food items.

Professors: Being an IIT, the quality of education here is pretty high and the faculty are well skilled to teach the latest developments in every department with regular updates in the curriculum. Some professors are exceptional with very good industry and academic experience and some are just at par but with educational degrees from best colleges in the country and abroad. Most importantly, all the faculties are very helpful in nature and are there whenever you require them, no matter what time it is.

Facilities: Students can engage in all kinds of sports, cultural and technical facilities inside the campus. There is a shopping complex inside the campus itself which houses a departmental store, ice-cream parlor, bakery, juice shop and a stationery shop. Additionally, there is a 24*7 dispensary inside the campus to help those who are in need.

Fun Stuff: All major festivals and pujas are celebrated inside the hostel complex. All the students have to be a part of at least one club or more and this is what will keep you busy throughout the 4 years in college. The three most important fests organized on campus are Wissenaire (Tech Fest), AlmaFiesta (Socio-Cultural Fest), and E-Summit (entrepreneurship fest).

What is the University of Oklahoma and the surrounding area like?

MB
Matthew Brown Posted On : February 4th, 2021
Studied at University of Oklahoma (2017)

Overall, University of Oklahoma has a great life based in the town of Norman. It has a beautiful campus with good landscaping and huge trees. You will definitely love walking to classes in spring. Additionally, the architecture has a sort of Gothic feel to it with a huge library. Do check out the Great Reading Room in the library.

There are also some fraternities and sororities on campus. Rent and housing prices are also quite affordable since the town is small. The old homes near the campus are pricier. Some amazing things you should know about OU:

  • There is a good football life on campus and the enthusiasm is quite contagious. Do go watch the Sooners play if you get the chance.
  • There is beautiful Cherokee Gothic architecture around the campus which is quite popular among the masses.
  • The university is also affiliated with Universities Research Association, Association of Public Land grant universities and is also accredited by Higher Learning Commission.
  • There are rumours that the college lacks cultural diversity but is listed as a Tier 2 institute.

The campus is quite big (Around 3000 acres I think) and you will be able to avail a number of student services too. You should definitely visit the campus library and museums. Another major perk is that cars are allowed on campus, which will help you navigate around faster.

Norman is a great town and is quite safe. Best part is, it will probably take you about 20 minutes to get from one end of the town to another. There are a couple of Walmarts, Targets and Victoria’s with grocery stores littered all over the town. Overall, you can expect to have a decent university life and affordable living at Norman and University of Oklahoma.

How is campus life in IIEST Shibpur, especially for Non Bengalis?

AS
Ankita Shroff Posted On : February 23rd, 2021
B.Tech Civil Engineering & Mathematics, IIEST, Shibpur (2019)

One of my seniors was a resident of Bhopal and he was a student of IIEST Shibpur. These are the experiences he had in the institute.

  • Since the year he was granted admission, IIEST Shibpur has been taking admissions through JEE Mains and now it has a reservation of 50% of seats for home-state candidates, just like the NITs. Over the years, the number of non-Bengali students has certainly improved.
  • Unlike South India, where you have to communicate in English for the majority of the time, in IIT Shibpur, the professors know how to communicate in the native language. New faculty from outside West Bengal is also being recruited since the institute converted to IIEST.
  • In terms of food, if you are a vegetarian, you will probably have a good experience here. West Bengal has a variety of sweets and seafood.
  • As most of your friends and peers will be Bengali, you will see a lot of them leaving for their homes on holidays and/or weekends.
  • Both Bengali and non-Bengali live among each other on the campus in peace. The seniors are approachable and will always help when asked for. Ragging is strictly prohibited in the institution.
  • The institute also has clubs where you can engage in interaction with students from other states. You can share your knowledge, experiences and even hone your skills in these clubs.

Overall, my senior had an enjoyable experience in the institute and he faced no prejudice from the Bengali students.

How is Acharya Institute of Technology? What is the campus crowd, sports facilities, and teaching faculty like?

TG
Taiti Ghosh Posted On : February 2nd, 2021
Studied at Acharya Institute of Technology (2019)

Acharya Institute of Technology is an average college. The student population on campus is fantastic and robust. The students are the university's lifeline. It's them who will make Acharya livable. Without the crowd, it would have been a dull place. It conducts an international festival, which is once again organized by the students.

The table given below shows a brief overview of the institute:

Categories

Acharya Institute of Technology

Course Fee

2.35 - 2.61 lakh

Placement Percentage

85%

Highest CTC

21 LPA

Average CTC

3 LPA

Top Recruiter

Infosys

Infrastructure:

  • Acharya Institute is renowned for its green environment and infrastructure and this is what makes it fresh for students.
  • The rooms of the hostel are good but a bit more expensive. It would be advised to stay in PGs located outside the campus.
  • Infrastructure is good, be it sports, classrooms, and dedicated laboratories. But for a college at this level, the library is too small with a lesser collection of books and reading materials.

Faculty: Teachers here are very helpful and willing to assist you in your academic and personal problems.

The overall institute is not bad, but the exams are entirely based and studied for the semester assessments and internals. It is far less helpful if you intend to import anything for your profession. Exposure is even smaller and the faculty has more practical expertise than Theoretical Knowledge.

Hope the details discussed above would help the students to acknowledge the college.

How is life and placement at BIT Sindri?

NS
Nischay Sharma Posted On : February 17th, 2021
B.TECH Metallurgy, Birsa Institute of Technology

Life at BIT Sindri is considered to be of an average standard, being an engineering college. There are several shortcomings about being in BIT Sindri which turns out to be a disadvantage during the course.

The following points state a few facts about life and placements at BIT Sindri, which are the opinions of almost every student.

  • The overall experience in BIT Sindri consists of a learning atmosphere that is largely dependent on the student himself.
  • BIT Sindri doesn’t provide that so-called college life, which is generally expected from engineering colleges in India.
  • In BIT Sindri, there is a shortage of resources, modern facilities, lab equipment, etc.

Placements

  • The placement in BIT Sindri has a decreasing standard in recent years and is not in a good position at present.
  • In branches like CSE/IT, BIT Sindri is far behind the standards of IITs, NITs, or any other good institute in India.
  • Core branches like Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Metallurgy, etc have the same PSU culture as good NITs and IITs, so they are still in a better position.
  • There are several BIT Sindri alumni currently settled with a government job.

To crack competitive exams like GATE, CAT, GRE, etc, students in BIT Sindri have to work hard and experience tough college life.

There are students who consider their life at BIT Sindri to be as glorious as expected, with several memories and campus stories. The government is taking a lot of initiatives to regain the glory of BIT Sindri, which is a positive aspect at present.
