I completed my BTech CSE from NIT Manipur in 2021. NITs consistently perform well in terms of placements. NITs fees are much lower compared to SRMIST and other private engineering colleges.
For your convenience, I have compiled the 2023 placement figures of all these colleges:
Parameters | NIT Manipur | *NIT Mizoram | NIT Sikkim | SRMIST Chennai (2024 Placements ongoing) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Highest/Average Package | Highest: INR 47 LPA Average: INR 9.7 LPA (2022 placements) |
- | Average: INR 8.50 LPA | Highest: 57 LPA (2023) Average: 6.88 LPA |
Total Offers | 147 | - | - | 9,011 (2023) |
No. of Companies Visited | 37 | 30 | - | 1,311 (2023) |
Top Recruiters | Amazon, Discovery, EDFORA, INCREFF, Veritas, Trellix, among others. | Virtusa, Optum-UGH, KEC International Ltd, C-DOT, Intellipaat, etc. | Bosch, Capgemini, CGI, TCS, Deloitte, Wipro, Infosys, Aarti Industries Limited, etc. | Cognizant, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, ICICI Bank, IBM, Axis Bank, Berger, etc. |
*The 2023 placement figures might have increased for NIT Mizoram.
NIT Manipur has the best placement figures among the three NITs. As per NIRF 2023 Engineering Ranking, NIT Manipur ranks 95th, while NIT Sikkim ranks in the 151-200 bracket.
NITs are “Institutes of National Importance''. NITs are government colleges. They come next in line to IITs for their high brand value. Though SRM Chennai is a well-known college, it does not carry the same reputation as the IITs and NITs. Due to these factors, I had decided to pursue BTech CSE from NIT Manipur.
The cut off marks of CUSAT vary year to year. One of my sisters is an alumnus of CUSAT. As per her experience, there are basically two phases in the admission procedure.
Admission Process:
Given below is a short overview of the admission process at CUSAT.
Rank-wise Allotment:
Direct Allotment:
You should maintain regular phone contact with the admin panel of CUSAT.
CUSAT Cutoff 2020:
According to the 2020 cutoff trend, the required cutoff at CUSAT campuses for General category students are as follows.
Particular |
Thrikkakara Campus |
Kuttanadu, Alappuzha |
Cutoff |
103 |
678 |
My sister told me that in 2012, the last rank of CSE was around 12000, through the reservation quota. With this cutoff rank, students usually get admission to the Kuttan campus.
According to student reviews, the Kuttan campus does not have a good infrastructure. There are no compound walls, no bridge; thereby the threat of floods is very constant. Besides, the hostel rates are also very high, and some of the people are arrogant, with no permanent staff.
UIET and CGC Landran were placed in the rank band of 201-250 according to the recent NIRF Rankings, 2020. Both degrees have a 4-year duration but UIET offers a BE degree whereas CGC Landran offers a B.Tech degree in Engineering.
UIET (EEE):

Placement:
Students become eligible for placement in this college after the 7th semester. The placement rate is 49%.
Few students get placed and the salary package received is of 4-5 lakh annually.
The companies which visited for the EEE stream were Infosys, Honda, Mahindra, etc.
CGC Landran (CSE):
CGC Landran’s B.Tech course was ranked 52nd out of 75 colleges in India in 2019 according to the Chronicle.
Admission:
JEE Mains result is accepted for this college too and the admission procedure starts in September and continues till April.
Total seats for this stream at CGC Landran are around 300. The total fees for 4 years are around Rs.3.62 lakh.
Placements:
The placement rate for this stream is 70%.
The average salary package for the CSE stream is around 3-4 LPA.
The highest package in 2018 was 32 LPA in Amazon.
Around 300-400 companies including Infosys, Cognizant, Google, Amazon, Flipkart, Dell, IBM, etc. visit for placement in this college.
Moreover, 66.66% of seats are reserved for state quota and 33.3% seats are reserved for management quota at CGC Landran but at UIET there is no state quota. The choice of the stream depends on the student’s interest.
Both NIT Surathkal and Warangal are one of the prestigious colleges in India for Engineering. Both of them provide a B.Tech. degree in Computer Science. Both have been established at almost the same time. NIRF has ranked NIT Warangal and NIT Surathkal 13 and 19 positions respectively for BTech.
Admission: Both the NITs take admission through JEE Mains for BTech in CSE. The total course fee for BTech at the institute is 5.32 lakhs and 5.39 lakhs for NIT Warangal and NIT Surathkal respectively. The closing cutoff rank for CSE in 2019 at these institutes are as follows.
NIT Warangal- 1980

Some of the key factors of both colleges are given below.
NIT Surathkal: NITK Surathkal has a Career Development Centre (CDC), which is responsible for the placement of all students. It facilitates interaction between the students and potential employers to provide them with exceptional career prospects. The center maintains its partnerships with numerous well-reputed companies to make the campus placement process transparent and successful.

NIT Surathkal and Warangal are reputed NITs and offer decent CSE programs in terms of academics and placements. Go through the information given above and choose the institute according to your convenience.
When the three are compared, Truba falls far short of LNCT and UIT. Because LNCT is a private institution and UIT is a government institution, it is recommended that you attend UIT. The reason for this is that it is always preferable to study in a government college rather than a private one. Private institutions charge exorbitant tuition fees, and if you are not a local, you may have debts for room rent, bills, and food, amounting to around 5 lakh or even more for a graduate-level course. Furthermore, we cannot guarantee you a placement.
At UIT, you must keep yourself good enough academically to find a seat on campuses that will keep you on track to work hard and earn a first-class degree.

My friend is a graduate in CSE from Jadavpur University and according to his experience here are the possible reasons you might be looking for:
When my friend joined JU, only the ETCE branch was having the best placement. But according to recent placement statistics, IT and CSE also have reached that prominence.
JU has a huge alumni base which helped my friend and his peers more than one can think of. Getting contacts and recommendations made it possible to invite a lot of companies for campus recruitment.
Pursuing CSE from NIT Surathkal will open numerous doors for you and provide you with greater placement prospects. Mining shouldn't be prioritised over CSE, since the mining industry is exceedingly difficult. In terms of placement, faculty, ranking, and academic excellence NIT Surathkal is better for pursuing mechanical engineering than IIT Jodhpur. The reasons for choosing NIT Surathkal are as follows:
