What are my chances of getting into IIM Kozhikode, with 90 percentile in the CAT if I'm a female OBC fresher engineer hailing from Kozhikode?

To get into IIM Kozhikode, a percentage of atleast 95 is preferable. Being from Kozhikode won’t be of much help.

One major piece of advice to you if you are a fresher is to indulge yourself in extracurricular activities. Get extra certificates through internships or part-time jobs. Paid courses that offer certificates will also be helpful. All this will help you in the GD-Pi process and you're likely to convert your call.

Can I get into IIM Kozhikode with 99.5 percentile and 7.33 CGPA?

Your percentile is not the only deciding factor for IIM Kozhikode admissions. I have seen instances where people with 99.78 percentile couldn’t make it while people with lower percentile and CGPA made it into IIM Kozhikode.

This is because IIM Kozhikode prefers a balanced score in each section and a good overall score. It even considers your 10 and 12 marks. They also pick students from versatile backgrounds.

Low CGPA is not an issue for admission into IIM Kozhikode. Your overall score should be appealing enough to get you in.

What are the career prospects after doing M.Com from IGNOU? Will I be eligible for lecturership after it?

AG

After earning your Mcom from Ignou, you can pursue a career as a lecturer. However, you must also pass the NET exam to be eligible for a lectureship.

Whether you get your M.com from a distance learning institute like IGNOU or a traditional college makes no difference. You are still eligible to take NET. State-level exams are an alternative to the NET. Every state has its own set of exams. Passing a state exam qualifies you for lectureships only in that state. To be eligible to become a lecturer anywhere in the country, you must give the NET. Most people would instead pass state-level exams and work as a lecturer in their state. They apply for NET after gaining experience in their field.

Considering that my profile is: 10th- 89.2 12th- 74.2 Grad. (Engg)- 8.5 PG- 8.0, which one is better: the NMIMS Mumbai, the IIM Rohtak, the IIM Raipur, the IIM Ranchi, the IIM Trichy, the IIM Udaipur

The aspects of judging a college’s worth depend on the following factors

  • legacy
  • alumni experience
  • perception among peers
  • quality of students
  • faculty
  • institute culture
  • events and activities
  • pedagogy
  • Summer and final placement opportunities

NMIMS renders you short-term advantages but IIMs offer many long term advantages. Even the faculty is better at IIMs than at NMIMS. But being a new institute, it lacks an alumni base. Any far-sighted person can definitely say that your IIM tag will help you in the long run.

Now based on your list, the order is

IIM Udaipur>IIM Ranchi>IIM Trichy>IIM Rohtak> IIM Raipur>IIM Kashipur

I got 82% in 10th and 70% in 12th. Can I get an admission in IIM-Calcutta?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : August 16th, 2023

There are a number of factors that IIM Calcutta takes into consideration during the selection process of the students. However, out of the 3 top IIMs it has the simplest criteria wherein a CAT score above 99.8% can maximize your chances of admission. It's difficult to get admission to other IIMs even with a CAT score above 99.99%

Some other factors that determine your admission chances are

  • Graduation Scores: The higher your graduation score, the higher your chances of admission to IIM Calcutta.
  • Profile: The more diverse your profile is with a lot of achievements the higher your chances of admission.
  • Gender diversity: Although this is an uncontrollable factor, it is considered while shortlisting.
  • Academic Diversity: Non-engineers have better chances of admission than a GEM.

Now, considering your profile, you have great marks in class 10th but average marks in class 12th. So to increase your chances of admission, you need a high CAT score of around 99.98% especially if you don’t have legit work experience.

What is the eligible criteria for the AFCAT exam?

SD
Shivesh Dubey Posted On : February 15th, 2021
Studied BSc from Khalsa College

My brother took the Air Force Common Admission Test, popularly known as AFCAT. It is a tough exam to crack, but the good news is, that it's held twice a year. My brother cracked it in the second attempt and became a part of the Flying Branch. There are two other branches in addition to that: Technical Branch and the Non-Technical Branch with groundwork.

To qualify for this year's AFCAT 2021 exam, you need to know the following:

Educational Qualification:

  • To get into the flying branch, you'd need 60% or above in Physics and Maths in 12th; you should pass the BE/BTech level exam and get 60% or above marks in Section A and Section B tests by the Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India).
  • For non-technical work, you'd need clear gradation with 60% marks in any field and consecutively qualify the ASI or AMIE exams with 60% as well.

Nationality: Apparently, you can apply only if you're an Indian citizen.

Marital Status:

  • This is an important one because either unmarried candidates below the age of 25 or married candidates above the age of 25 are eligible for application, even during the commencement of the course, they must remain so.
  • If you're divorced or a widow, you'll be out of the race.

Mental and Physical Fitness:

  • To join IAF you must be 162.5 cm. For the non-technical branch, male candidates should be at least 157.5 cm tall, and female candidates should be at least 152 cm tall.
  • If you're from the North East, then a 5cm relaxation will be provided.
  • The weight will have to be in proportion to your height and mental wellness is an important aspect of the scrutiny as well.

Age Limit:

  • It depends on the branch and method of entry, the flying branch takes in students between the ages of 20-25.
  • Candidates with a commercial license issued by the DGCA are given a relaxation. For non-technical posts candidates should be between 20-26.
  • The upper age limit for flying branch aspirants is 26 years, there is no age relaxation for those interested in non-technical posts.

You won't be allowed to stay with your family during the training period, so keep that in mind. You must keep a check on the notifications which might vary from year to year, also the Testbook is a place for mock tests and resources. So you could use it for studying.

I have got a CGPA of 6.5 in my first semester of BTech in IIIT-Hyderabad. Can I improve it till 8.5 for getting an admission offer in a prestigious management institute in IIMs or ISB?

KP

People usually have two opinions regarding MBA admissions. First, the admissions have little to do with numbers, second, CGPA and numbers are extremely crucial. My answer is here to support the second opinion and she’s light on the importance of CGPA.

Don’t decide on your next degree hastily before even completing the first one. You may want to explore more interests before deciding what you want to finally choose. Most people in IIT commit the grave mistake of not focusing on their Academics because they think that the ECE or IT sector is not their cup of tea. They forget that they are among the best computer science minds right now and do not make the best use of this opportunity. Identifying the opportunities offered by the institute is a crucial step before deciding on your future career. Even if after enough reflection you realize that the IT sector is not for you, you may explore other options.

Recently many alumni of IIIT Hyderabad have joined as graduates of IIMs after gaining work experience. But almost every alumnus I have looked up had an excellent CGPA, nothing less than 8.5.

So CGPA is not the only factor but is one of the most important factors during admissions at IIMs. One can get into an IIM even with an average CGPA but having a good CGPA will increase the plethora of opportunities definitely.

MA Historical Studies,University of Madras (2020)

If you are interested in pursuing any UG or PG and do not belong to Tamil Nadu, then you are required to submit the eligibility certificate.

You need this certificate as proof of completion of 12th or graduation from any other state. It will be helpful in joining an affiliated college at the University of Madras.

For the eligibility certificate, you can visit the university website and download the form from the website, or can even visit the campus to take the form. After receiving the form, submit it at the office in the Chepauk campus of the University of Madras.
