It is certainly improving the present UG placement scenario and hopes it will continue this year to upgrade in the years ahead. The PG scenario is very different from the well-known businesses - all from Axis Bank to Zee Entertainment Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. - coming in and picking up students as new additional employees.
Before 2017, the MTech Mechanical department saw only 40%-50% placements with PPOs which were places of internships for students as well; as part of the MTech project. MTech Mechanical in CAD CAM saw 10-15 placements in 2017; most of the students did get internships with Siemens, Fiat Chrysler, and Cummins.
The department has good labs, over 27 faculty members, and 85 seats with a distribution of 18-25 each for the 4 MTech specializations.
The table below highlights the placement facts of the mechanical engineering department for MTech in 2018-19

The latest data of 2020 placements has not been made available yet. There has been a 20% improvement in the placement rate of MTech students from 2017 into 2019. The BTech level still has a much higher placement rate of about 85%-97%. Students are free to decide through the placement data shared above.
IIEST Shibpur placement for Electrical Engineering is good. Recruiters offering core job profiles usually offer an average CTC of around INR 5 LPA. Some of the major recruiters from the Electrical Engineering field that visit the campus placement frequently are Larsen and Toubro, CESE, Haldia Petrochemicals, etc.
Students from EE also get recruited in non-core profiles. These job profiles usually have higher pay structure.
One of my friends was confused while taking admission to Sharda University, after coming across bad comments. But, he stuck to his decision and took admission there, and now he is happy.

Mechanical Engineering can get you a job in the following sectors
The placements and the roles you will be offered depend a lot on your interest and how much you have prepared in the last 3 semesters.
IIT Bombay is indeed one of the best Engineering institutes in India and takes the highest JEE AdvanceD rankers in their Mechanical Engineering branch. This is why it attracts the best companies and roles.
Placements at NMIMS Mumbai are overall good and they are especially appealing in the finance domain. Like any other B school, NMIMS also projects an optimistic view of the salary figures that are sometimes slightly inflated but they are not factually wrong.
Connecting with past NMIMS students can get you a better idea of the actual figures. I also contacted my friend who was in the NMIMS 2016 batch. The average CTC around that time was 12 LPA which was pretty good considering the huge batch size of core MBA. The highest CTC that year stood at 32 LPA whereas the lowest stood at 8-8.5 LPA.
Sector-wise, the average CTC of Marketing was higher than the institute's average. In addition due to lower strength in Operations, they also fared well in placements. The students in Operations were able to get the desired job easily. The placements did not face any major issue except that the in the last round packages offered were as low as 8-10 LPA when around 100 students were left unplaced.
International roles were offered by Goldman Sachs, GE, Aliaxis group & few other companies. But the postings were mostly short-term in nature wherein you have to spend 3-3 months only.
Overall I think the placements are decent but might deteriorate with the increasing batch size and fees.
A lot of students apply every year to the MBA programme for the available 33 seats.
The placement rate is around 25% with a minimum CTC of 1.8 lakhs per annum. About 66% students are recruited off campus while 34% are recruited on campus. Out of this, 29% are placed through international on campus recruitment i.e. international brands recruit them, while 71% students are placed through Indian firms.
The selection process includes: MCQ test and Interview. Though some companies can adopt other ways of recruitment such as Assignments or Group discussion.
Before the entire process, Calcutta University organizes Industry- Academia Interaction program, under which students get exposed to the industry requirements. It helps in preparing for the entire placement process. Also, the University provides internship opportunities to the students before the placement process to give professional knowledge.
The average gross salary of MBA from Calcutta University is around Rs. 4-5 lakhs per annum. It is quite a satisfactory package for a fresher. The median salary is about Rs. 8.3 lakhs.
As compared to the B.Tech students, the MBA students receive less salary as the B.Tech students receive about Rs. 7-8 lakhs as the average gross salary.
Some of the companies visiting the university for the placement process are: Amul, Bandhan Bank, Axis Bank, Vodafone, Wipro, HDFC Bank, Aditya Birla Group, HSBC, ITC, Samsung, Nestle, Berger, Capgemini
30. Indiabulls
The top recruiting company is Bandhan Bank with the top role of Manager. Other roles in companies include Human Resource Management and recruiting, School counselling, Psychological department etc.
