How is ECE in NIT Silchar, in terms of labs, teacher, and placement. What is the campus culture in NIT Silchar?

MR
Moitrayi Roy Posted On : August 24th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology Silchar

You will experience an amazing life as a student of Electronics and Communication Engineering at NIT Silchar. I will go through all the aspects you have mentioned one by one

Labs:

  • The labs of the ECE department are equipped with modern instruments and facilities.
  • The lab attendees are usually M.Tech. and Ph.D. students who are eager to teach their juniors. They are passionate about research and are very approachable.
  • There aren't any restrictions on timings and you can go to the lab anytime between 9 am-8 pm.

Teachers:

  • The teachers of the ECE branch are very calm and guide you throughout.
  • Students who are serious about their future and studies can approach the teacher who motivates and guides them in the same.
  • The faculty is highly qualified and humble at the same time.

Placements:

  • If you are someone who is committed to hard work and utilize your potential to the fullest then trust me the placements here won't disappoint you.
  • The core placement opportunities are limited but this is the same in most of the institutes today. Mostly software services-based companies recruit NIT Silchar students. This is because the hardware industry in our country is not as developed as compared with the software industry.
  • Last year ECE students at NIT Silchar received 120, the second highest offers after CSE. Out of 112, 87 students got placed.
  • Don't focus much on the placement statistics rather focus on performing excellently and good packages will come and find you.

Campus Culture :

  • NIT Silchar has an amazing campus culture thanks to the strong harmony between peers and amazing campus facilities.
  • The campus is surrounded by lush greenery and is a great stress buster.

To experience all this firsthand, get admission here and live some of the best years of your life!

Should I pursue IT in NIT Surathkal or CSE in SVNIT Surat?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : September 14th, 2023

Both NITK and SVNIT are tier-1 NITs and are excellent choices for engineering. Moreover both the branches are one of the most coveted branches so the choice of colleges is rather difficult here.

Go for CSE at SVNIT, if you are interested in CSE only. Usually CSE faculty is better than IT faculty. But if the tag of the college matters more then go for IT at NIT Surathkal as it has a better reputation than SVNIT in terms of job placement, alumni network, infrastructure, academics, start-up culture, etc. Here are a few additional reasons why you should choose NIT Surathkal

  • The IT curriculum in NIT Surathkal is better than that of CSE in SVNIT on all parameters.
  • The lab infrastructure and facilities are much better in NIT Surathkal. The curriculum is up to date.
  • NIT Surathkal focuses on project-based learning. Every course has a practical aspect.
  • Placement statistics of the IT dept in NIT Surathkal are also way better.

Ultimately, the choice between the two depends on your own preferences. However, I can say with certainty that choosing either colleges and branches will give you amazing results choices because CSE & IT are the most in-demand branches, combined with the tier-1 college tag.

Is joining mechanical engineering in IIT BHU or CSE in NIT Surathkal or CSE in DTU better?

Following the sheep mentality, many claim that it’s the branch that shapes your career and not your institute. Well, don’t let such people mislead you into believing your career is all set if you take CSE irrespective of the institute you belong to.

CSE branch is a major crowd-puller but trust me any branch taken up at IITs is better than other technical institutes. The branch is temporary but the tag you will be getting is permanent and will stay with you forever. Moreover, as for the placement opportunities that are better for CS, you can always opt for noncore placements and acquire coding skills.

The campus life and exposure provided by IITs is like no other so if you choose a technical institute other than IIT, you will be missing out on a good college life. Also, the culture of most IITs is driven towards coding so many IIT companies offer placements to students other than the CS branch based on your skills.

Here is a comparative analysis of the placement scenario of these institutes

NIT Surathkal placements

DTU placements

IIT BHU placements

Which one is better: a CSE at NIT, Hamirpur or an ECE at PEC?

MA
Madhav Aneja Posted On : September 13th, 2023
Lived in Chandigarh, India

In terms of NIRF 2023 rankings, NIT Hamirpur is placed 127th while PEC is placed 138th among Engineering colleges in India.

Keeping the rankings apart, your choice of college should be based on two factors-

  • Branch- If you have a particular interest in one of these branches, I would recommend you choose your college according to that. Both these branches offer good placements, though CSE students end up grabbing the highest packages. Both the colleges offer decent placements.

During the 2023 placement season, the median package for ECE branch at PEC stood at INR 18.40 LPA. Last year, the CSE branch at NIT Hamirpur recorded 96.81% placements. 139 offers were received in total, and the highest salary stood at INR 1.12 CPA.

  • Brand name- Both the colleges are at par with one another, but NIT Hamirpur carries the much-valued ‘NIT’ tag. It has a good infrastructure and a beautiful campus. The surroundings are serene and close to nature. If you have an interest in traveling, photography, and trekking, Hamirpur is more suitable to explore these interests. PEC definitely offers more exposure, being based out of Chandigarh.

Based on your personal preference, you can choose either of the two options.

What should I choose between EEE at NIT Trichy, ECE at NIT Warangal, IT at NIT Surathkal and CSE at MNIT?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : August 16th, 2023

Whether you should choose EEE at NIT Trichy or ECE at NIT Warangal or IT at NIT Surathkal or CSE at MNNIT, depends solely on your preferences and future prospects. Never opt for a branch blindly just because you are getting a good institute with your rank. The primary step is to get an idea of the field you are willing to pursue a career. Choosing the right branch is very important as it plays a major role in shaping your career. Also, don’t choose a certain branch on the pretext of upgrading your ranch later because the chances are very low.

While making this decision, there are 2 kinds of people, one who prefers college over the branch and the other who prefers branch over college. If you belong to the first category, your preference order should be

  • NIT TRICHY>NIT SURATHKAL>NIT WARANGAL>MNIT

But if you belong to the second category, your preference order should be

  • IT NIT SURATHKAL>ECE NIT WARANGAL>CSE MNIT>EEE TRICHY

Hope this helped you!

Should I study ECE at IIIT, Allahabad or IT at BIT, Mesra?

UL
Urooj Lal Posted On : March 26th, 2021
Studied at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (2019)

An ECE at IIIT, Allahabad is preferable to an IT at BIT, Mesra. Of course, the choice of the branch is subjective and should be chosen based on our own interests and preferences. But still, a degree at IIIT Allahabad is much more valuable than that of BIT Mesra.

The best thing about IIIT, Allahabad is its focus on research and thus will provide you the extra edge over other similar level candidates. The course structure is very focused and you will get subjects such as integrated robotics and many others. IIIT, Allahabad also offers the best facilities to hone your programming skills.

The table below will give a few stats of both the institutes.

BIT Mesra

IIIT Allahabad

Average CTC (2019 - 2020)

INR 11.76 LPA

INR 20.83 LPA

Highest CTC (2019 - 2020)

INR 49.76 LPA

INR 43 LPA

NIRF Ranking (2020)

38

103

And then the fee structure of IIIT Allahabad is also much more affordable, 1.65 lakhs first-year fee to BIT Mesra’s 2.85 lakhs first-year fee, compared to BIT Mesra which gives the degree much more value with all the facilities, research opportunities, and placements it has to offer. Thus IIIT Allahabad is favored.

What would be the better choice - ECE at BITS Goa or ECE at NIT Trichy?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : July 20th, 2023

Since you have decided on a branch beforehand, comparing two institutes becomes easier. That being said, BITS Goa is a clear winner and you can go for it without any hesitation. Consider the following parameters

Infrastructure: Being a private institute, BITS Goa has excellent infrastructure and facilities. The campus is fully wifi-enabled with air-conditioned classrooms, well-equipped labs, and a well-stocked e-library. There are several MOOC or reverse classroom courses too.

Faculty: BITS Goa has a thorough recruiting process and only then best professors are selected thus maintaining the standards of teaching here.  The faculty members are expected to be highly experienced and have published at least 5 papers. There is also a faculty monitoring committee, to ensure quality teaching.

Course structure: BITS Goa has a well-structured curriculum and the pedagogy adopted is modern.

Campus life: Being located in a tourist city, the campus life experience is full of fun.

Placements: BITS Goa placements statistics are excellent and this year the average package stood at INR 30.37 LPA.

Unless you have any financial constraints, choosing BITS Pilani over NIT Trichy will prove to be a more fruitful decision.

What happens if you fail in a subject in the final year of engineering at VTU?

AM
Argha Mitra Posted On : May 24th, 2022
BE from Visvesvaraya Technological University (2017)

If you fail in a subject in the final year of Engineering at VTU, you will get a year back. You will have to wait another year to clear the subject. You won’t get your degree until you clear all the subjects.

Attaching a video for reference to understand the process

However, the final year subjects are easier compared to the rest of the year engineering subjects. You can clear the subjects easily if you put in a little bit of effort.
